ILM BRUSSELS - OP 7 EN 8 APRIL 2018 VINDT DE EERSTE INDEPENDENT LABEL MARKET BRUSSEL PLAATS IN WIELS!
ILM comes to celebrate independent music with an exciting selection of around forty Belgian and European labels, plus an exciting list of activities to spend a good weekend with family and friends.

About / Infotekst:
Independent Label Market lands Brussels
Over two days, independent music labels will come together and present home artists and records (novelties and back catalogue) to the public. At this free, all-ages festival, attendees will discover new music and meet the heads of labels, the people who put all of their energy into supporting and promoting independent music.
Around forty national and European labels will therefore offer a wide variety of musical styles. On the Belgian side, we will count on the participation of the cult label Les Disques du Crépuscule, 62TV Records, which you can discover the very last release of pop band Okay Monday or Crammed Discs which will present the last album of Lio "Lio canta Caymmi" and the live-album Aquaserge "Déjà-vous". These established labels will rub shoulders with more confidential labels such as Okraïna - a micro-label launched in 2012 by Philippe Delvosalle devoted to 10-inch vinyls and whose magnificent artworks are all designed by Gwénola Carrère - Meeuw Muzak label and its experimental music sweeping a broad spectrum ranging from reggae to synth-pop, or Kerm, Ghent's cassette label, whose hypersensitivity offers DIY sound productions from the most underground places. Brussels label Naff Rekordz will premiere the new album of Jawharaka "Tunisian Nick Drake". Antwerp brand new label Rotkat will introduce you to Maarten Van Cauwenberghe’s soundscapes.
From the Dutch neighbors, you can discover the folk of the label Tiny Room Records or the latest album of indie rock band Afterpartees released by Excelsior Recording. Snowstar Records will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the release of the first Kensington EP with an ultra-limited re-issue. Amsterdam based label Bordello A Parigi will celebrate the first anniversary of its record shop by bringing a lot of italo-discoproductions to ILM Brussels.
Electronic music will be well represented notably by the labels PRR PRR, Kalahari Oyster Cult (NL) whose new EP of the Australian producer Roza Terenzi has just been out, Modern Obscure Music (Spain), Klasse Recordings (Germany), Pirotecnia ( UK) and Worldwide Zen, the brand new label from French producer Geena.
The more edgy, emo and obscure music will also be represented thanks to the label Consouling Sounds - whose upcoming releases of Future Old People are Wizards and Piet Dierickx will be released in April - the labels Silken Tofu and Wool E Tapes will also be attending, just like the Spanish label Underground Legend Records or the French label Hands In The Dark with its roster of impeccable artists such as Saåad, Egyptology, Tomaga or The Oscillation.
Diggers and collectionists, will find their happiness thanks to the reissues of the famous English label Be With Records which range from Alec Mansion - the Belgian king of boogie - to the South African singer Letta Mbulu through the first group of Arthur Russell, The Necessaries. Akuphone will propose on his stand Saba-Saba Fighting: an album mixing brakka, reggae and afrobeat recorded between 1980 and 1984 by the incredible boxer Afropéen Musphapata. Finally, for the first time in Belgium, the great label of Belgrade Discom will present its nuggets from the former Yugoslavia.
Finally the public will be able to travel well beyond Europe thanks to Strut Records which became cult thanks to its releases documenting the music history of calypso, afro beat and beyond! On the Corner Records, which has just received Gilles Peterson's 'Record Label Of The Year' award, will also be attending. Nawa Recordings, label of Khyam Allami, will represent the new alternative music of the Arab world. Not to mention the participation of the Belgian collective Rebel Up which will launch its own label at ILM Brussels with its first two vinyl releases: Ayuune Sule "We Have One Destiny" and Nuri "Drup".
The intention of ILM Brussels is to offer everyone the opportunity to spend a great weekend discovering independent music. The audience will be able to listen to all these musical nuggets through high quality listening stations and a sound sytem offered by Audio Technica & Analogue Foundation. A bar will offer Vedett beers and drinks Lovibond, the gastronomic offer will be provided by Kamilou and its organic and gourmet recipes! For those who can not attend ILM Brussels, the independent radio station Radio Panik will stream live Wiels music sessions and interviews throughout the weekend!
ILM Academy is a program set up specifically for micro-labels and emerging labels. The participants for this first edition of ILM in Brussels are:
DAUW: This is a "label with the appearance of an art gallery" putting a very explicit emphasis on the interaction between music and artworks - always made by Femke Strijbol. With a handful of cassette releases, Dauw will release in the coming weeks his first vinyl from the Belgian neoclassical artist Illuminine. Called #2 Reworks, it will be a limited edition of 250 hand-made copies on colorful vinyl.
DISCOS HOROSCOPO: Peruvian label specializing in the reissue of tropical Andean cumbia with cult artists such as Chacalón y Nueva Crema, Red Painting, OVNIS, Alegría... It will present the brand new reissue of Los Shapis' first LP "Los Auténticos" - legendary group of tropical Peruvian music.
SICK FUZZ RECORDS: DIY label founded by Celia Dame who published among others the artists Third Sky and Duane Serah.
TANUKI RECORDS: This label has released productions ranging from Noisy / Abstract Turntabilism to field recordings made in Africa. Last cassette out: Ericamour Yovogan and Quentin Nicolai "Wututu".
THIRD TYPE TAPES: Label of beats and noise tapes that will present its latest releases: a split between the artists Massive Head and Sub Altern, and a tribal shamanic reflection by the French producer Raymonde.
SHE SAID SO
Because in 2018 the issue of the representation of women - in society as a whole and in the field of music and culture - remains a crucial issue, ILM Brussels is proud to team up with SheSaid. So - a global network of women with active roles in the music industry. As such, a special conference will be set up at Wiels, and will highlight the women participating in ILM Brussels: Dalia Leiva Egnem, founder of Pirotecnia (London), Nuria Castañer of Underground Legend Records (Spain), Vanja Todorovic, founder of Discom (Belgrade), Charlotte Decroix, label manager of Her Majesty's Ship (Paris) and Célia Dame of the Belgian label Sick Fuzz Records.

Since launching on Berwick St in May 2011, Independent Label Market has brought together the founders of over 250 of the World's greatest independent record labels on both sides of the Atlantic to sell their fresh vinyl produce directly to the public at that traditional goods exchange - a market stall.
As the music industry embraces mp3s and a more digital strategy, Independent Label Market is proving to be a valuable reminder of how music retail can be a social affair; people hanging out together as a community and buying records.
To date, the Independent Label Market is in its seventh year, with regular events in London, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Toronto, Hamburg, Mexico, Oslo and Glasgow. Artists such as Jarvis Cocker, Joe Goddard, Erol Alkan, Gilles Peterson, Four Tet, Edwyn Collins and Jamie XX have become valued customers of this event celebrated around the world.
ILM Brussels, is not a simple "vinyl market", it is a mini festival dedicated to independent music. ILM deploys all its energy to support and give visibility to independent creation and create professional and social links.
ILM Brussels aims to:
Create bridges between different actors of independent music to create a strong and positive synergy.
