According to Variety, Jennifer Lopez is cast to play in an upcoming HBO film about Griselda Blanco, the most powerful female drug lord of all time.
Nicknamed the “The Cocaine Godmother,” Blanco was a Colombian drug lord who ran and operated the bulk of the drug trade in Miami in the 70s and 80s. Lopez is slated to executive produce the film under Nuyorican Productions company.
It turns out Lopez is intrigued by Blanco’s story. “I’ve been fascinated by the life of this corrupt and complicated woman for many years,” Lopez commented. “The idea of teaming with HBO felt like the perfect fit for finally bringing Griselda’s story to life.”
Lopez currently stars on NBC’s drama “Shades of Blue,” which was greenlit for a second season.
Jennifer Lopez is reportedly planning on turning her pop hits into a Broadway musical.
The singer-and-actress sang about her rags to riches story on her top 10 hit Jenny from the Block, and now insiders say the premise could be made into a stage show.
“Jen thinks her life story could make millions if it’s done right,” a source told America’s OK! Magazine.
“Once she takes a break from her All I Have show in Vegas in August (16), she’s going to hunker down and do a lot of research for the musical. She wants to star as her older self, and says it would be the biggest challenge she’s ever faced. She’ll give her all to make it happen.”
If the show gets the green light, the Shades of Blue actress will follow in the footsteps of music acts like Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and The Kinks, whose story can currently be seen in musicals Jersey Boys and Sunny Afternoon respectively.
Rumours of a Broadway production were boosted recently, when 46-year-old Jennifer admitted she’d love to make her debut on the New York stage. And she’s already got an idea on who can get her there – Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda.
"He's going to write me this amazing thing - it's going to be better than Hamilton," Jennifer joked to E! News. "I'm going to star in it. I'm going to win the Tony."
"No pressure," Lin-Manuel responded. "Better than Hamilton, no pressure. Seven years of my life!"
Hamilton won an impressive 11 gongs at the 2016 Tony Awards in June (16), including Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical.
Jennifer and Lin-Manuel have also teamed up on Jennifer’s new track Love Make The World Go Round, a benefit song for those affected by the shooting massacre at an Orlando gay nightclub last month (Jun16). (Bron: Music-News)
NEWS / Jennifer Lopez believes she just gets 'better and better' as she grows more experienced.
The 45-year-old American Idol judge who recently re-signed with her original record label, Epic, admits that she no longer worries about her place in the world of showbiz.
Lopez's return to Epic means reuniting with longtime friend and mentor L.A. Reid, and she now has a wealth of industry and life experience into new music compared to when she was first starting out as a dancer on a TV show turned pop star.
"When you first start in this business, you think, 'This is going to run out' or 'It's going to finish at a certain time' or 'If I reach a certain age I won't be relevant'", the mother of two explained.
However, she says it's something she no longer worries about having grown in confidence as she has aged.
"I just get better and better with more experience and more life. I have more to give to what I do and that's what I look forward to when creating this record," shared Lopez.
During an interview on The Wendy Williams Show on Thursday (03Mar16), the "Booty" singer opened up about everything in her life, from her relationship with dancer Casper Smart to her Las Vegas residency.
"The residency was a dream. When I think of Vegas, I think of Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley and iconic performers," she told Williams.
"Before I even signed my deal to go to Vegas, when they were offering it to me, I went and saw a bunch of shows. I saw everybody. I saw Britney Spears, I saw Shania Twain."
And in a reference to diva Mariah Carey of whom she famously said, "I don't know her", she clarified: "I didn't see Mariah because at the time she wasn't playing," Wendy responded, "Who? No, I'm playing. That's what Mariah said about Jennifer one time."
Lopez laughed and brushed it off, saying, "She does say that. She's forgetful I guess! We've met many times. I don't know...I don't know her that well." (Bron: Music-News)
NEWS / Jennifer Lopez has thanked Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson for bestowing the title of Queen of Showbiz upon her.
The singer joined the wrestler-turned-actor on stage at the Golden Globes on Sunday (10Jan16) to present the Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Limited-Series, or TV Movie prize to Maura Tierney for her part in The Affair.
It appears the stars have grown close, as Dwayne recently paid Jennifer a massive compliment on Twitter. When user Balls.ie asked the question: "Dwayne @TheRock Johnson's 2016 Schedule Begs The Question, Is There A Harder Working Man In Showbiz?", the muscly star responded with: "Nope there is no man who rivals my work ethic in showbiz, buuuuuut (sic) @JLo gives me a run for my money. #Queen."
Now Jennifer has thanked her showbiz pal for the love, tweeting: "Awwww so sweet #cantstopwontstop #letsgetit #theRock (sic)"
Dwayne might seem like one of the toughest men in the industry but he's a real softie at heart. The action star and his long-time girlfriend Lauren Hashian welcomed their first child, daughter Jasmine, in December (15) and Dwayne immediately dropped everything to be at the birth.
"That was a great conversation... 3 o'clock in the afternoon, I'm on the set of (TV show) Ballers, I get a text from my girlfriend saying: 'We're inducing at 6, baby comes tonight,'" Dwayne recalled in an interview with Extra. "Three weeks early! I pull my director aside and say: 'Buddy, we're shutting it all down.' So for two weeks we shut Ballers down. But it's great, we're back to shooting now."
He added that he does his fair share of nappy changing because he's a "man and a half". (Bron: Music-News)
