Today Whitney Houston and Kygo released a new single “Higher Love”. The single marks the first new Whitney Houston music released in a decade, since 2009’s “I Look To You.” Whitney originally recorded the cover of Steve Winwood’s “Higher Love” and released it as a Japan-only bonus track on her “I’m Your Baby Tonight” album in 1990.
Pat Houston said of the single, “The Estate of Whitney E. Houston and our new partner Primary Wave are delighted with the collaboration between KYGO and WHITNEY. We knew KYGO would be the right producer to enhance Whitney’s powerful vocal performance on ‘Higher Love,’ to the standards and expectations that Whitney’s fans have recognized for over three decades. The resurgence of this precious archival performance will carry Whitney’s musical legacy on to a younger generation for years to come. Everyone should be ready to dance to this uplifting and inspiring record - a testament to KYGO’s incredible talent, and a reminder of why we fell in love with Whitney from the very beginning!!!”
WHITNEY HOUSTON’S LONGTIME FRIEND ROBYN CRAWFORD TO RELEASE BOOK "A SONG FOR YOU, MY LIFE WITH WHITNEY HOUSTON”
“Since Whitney’s death in 2012, that trusted and loyal friend, Robyn Crawford, has stayed out of the limelight and held the great joys, wild adventures, and hard truths of her life with Whitney close to her heart. In A Song for You, Robyn breaks her silence to share the moving and often complicated story of her life and relationship with Whitney.
With warmth, candor, and an impressive recall of detail, Robyn gives readers insight into Whitney’s life and career. She traces the years from when she and Whitney first met as teenagers in the 1980s to the recording of Whitney's first album and the infinite success that followed. From countless sold-out world tours to her epic rendition of the US national anthem to the set of The Bodyguard, her tempestuous marriage, and the birth of her only child, Robyn was there.
Deeply personal and heartfelt, “A Song for You” is the vital, honest, and previously untold story that provides an understanding of the complex life of Whitney Houston. Finally, the person who knew her best sets the record straight.” The book, “A Song For You - My Life With Whitney Houston” will be released in hardcover on November 5th, 2019.
The iconic costume Whitney Houston wore in The Bodyguard is set to be auctioned off.
The item, known as the Queen of the Night outfit, was worn by the late singer when she played Rachel Marron in the 1992 drama and was used to create the video shown in the background of one of the movie's scenes as well as the live concert footage of her on stage.
It's also the outfit worn by Whitney in the poster image for the film, in which she is depicted being carried by her co-star Kevin Costner.
The costume consists of a chrome finish plastic chest piece, a cloth corset with various trim pieces, a metallic grey under suit with some holes and rips from wear during filming, a large collar piece made of chrome balls, a belt with attached strings of chrome beads, a waist attachment with a metallic silver partial skirt, long gloves with attached decorations, metal arm cuffs, tall high heel boots with diamond shaped decoration down the side, and a silver plastic and metal headpiece.
Bidding for the piece will be held through the website ScreenUsed.com as part of its Hollywood Memorabilia Auction, and has a start price of $10,000 (£7,800), with the auction concluding on 25 August (18).
The Bodyguard was nominated for two Oscars at the 1993 Academy Awards, with the lead song, I Will Always Love You, winning Whitney a Grammy.
Other notable film memorabilia that will be up for sale through the site includes a suit worn by Al Pacino as Michael Corleone in The Godfather Part III, boxing trunks worn by Will Smith in Ali and the pajamas Johnny Depp wore in Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands.
There’s not a day that goes by that we don’t miss the angelic voice of the great Whitney Houston. It’s now been reported that a documentary simply titled Whitney will see light this coming July.
The documentary, created by Oscar-winning director Kevin Macdonald, will reflect the late singer’s life and career.
“I approached Whitney’s life like a mystery story; why did someone with so much raw talent and beauty self-destruct so publicly and painfully? I was lucky enough to have the support of Pat Houston and the Whitney Houston estate in this quest,” Macdonald (One Day in September), said in a statement. “They entrusted me with the ‘keys to the vault’ while giving me complete freedom to follow the story wherever it went. At heart, Whitney is an intimate family story that reveals a new side to a woman that even her most die-hard fans never knew.”
“To tell Whitney’s story, you have to know her story. We could not be more excited that Whitney’s fans will have this authoritative and definitive documentary chronicling the full arc or her career and the scope of Whitney’s entire life,” a statement from Patricia Houston, Whitney’s former manager, sister-in-law, and estate executor, reads. “This is an amazing retrospective that celebrates Whitney with never-before-seen footage and Kevin approaches her life with no blinders on. He captures all of Whitney’s magic, and he does not ignore the hard times. This is a film that will truly thrill all who knew and loved her as a musician, actress, model and so much more.”
The film was acquired by Miramax back in July 2016. They are the only production company supported by Whitney’s estate. Partnering with Roadside Attractions for its release, we are all hopeful that the documentary does Houston justice.
Macdonald’s Whitney is filled with unreleased recordings, never-before-seen home movie footage and live performances recorded by Houston at various stages in her life, as well as original studio recordings, and a capellas of some of her biggest hits. His goal is to share the singer’s talent, her successes, and failures, allowing fans around the world to humanize such a glorious talent and relate to her ups and downs.
Whitney Houston passed away in 2012 at the age of 48 in Los Angeles, CA.
Whitney is set to hit theaters on July 6th.
Academy Award-Winner Kevin Macdonald To Direct Official Whitney Houston Documentary, The Definitive Story Of The Global Superstar
NEWS / Academy Award®-winning producer, Simon Chinn and Emmy Award®-winning producer Jonathan Chinn to produce with TV veteran and former executive producer of ‘Oprah,‘ Lisa Erspamer
Altitude Film Sales will handle international sales and introduce the project to buyers in Cannes
Altitude Film Distribution acquires for major UK theatrical release
LONDON – Thursday 28 April, 2016. Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Kevin Macdonald (MARLEY, TOUCHING THE VOID, ONE DAY IN SEPTEMBER) and Academy Award®-winning producer Simon Chinn(MAN ON WIRE, SEARCHING FOR SUGAR MAN) and his Lightbox Media partner Jonathan Chinn(FANTASTIC LIES, AMERICAN HIGH) have partnered with multi-Emmy award nominated producer Lisa Erspamer (RUNNING FROM CRAZY) on the official Whitney Houston documentary, a revealing theatrical feature documentary about the life and genius of global superstar Whitney Houston.
Altitude Film Sales is introducing the project to buyers at Cannes with UK rights acquired by Altitude Film Distribution. Will Clarke, Andy Mayson and Mike Runagall will executive produce.
While this is the first documentary to be officially authorized by the estate since Whitney’s death, Kevin Macdonald and the producers have been given the estate’s blessing to tell the unvarnished and authentic story of the singer’s life in a film that will examine both the highs and lows of her dramatic career.
Kevin Macdonald will also be interviewing Clive Davis, founder and president of Arista Records, currently chief creative officer of Sony Music Entertainment and who is universally acknowledged for bringing Whitney Houston to prominence.
Often referred to simply as ‘The Voice’, Whitney Houston was a singular talent, blessed with an extraordinary vocal range and incredible technical skill. As one of music’s biggest selling artists ever, she broke more records than any other female singer in the history of pop music.
With over 200 million album sales worldwide, and remaining the only artist to chart seven consecutive US No. 1’s, Whitney Houston became the voice of a generation. Coming from an esteemed lineage of singers, Whitney was destined to be plucked from her gospel-singing roots to rule the world stage. She inspired a generation of singers from Mariah Carey and Lady Gaga to Beyoncé and her unforgettable performance of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ moved the nation.
But all these achievements have become overshadowed by a story of addiction and self-destruction. With unprecedented access to friends, family and collaborators – some of whom have never told their side of the story, Kevin Macdonald’s feature documentary will for the first time tell the complete story of Whitney Houston’s life and work from the point of view of those who knew her best. The film will reveal a woman who was both blessed and cursed with perhaps the greatest natural ability of any pop star in history.
Filmmaker Kevin Macdonald says, “The story that is never told about Whitney is just how brilliant she was as an artist; by many measures she had the greatest voice of the last 50 years. She changed the way pop music was sung – bringing it back full circle to its blues and gospel roots. She was also completely unique in being a black pop star who transcended her race globally with her work sold in countries where black artists don’t sell.
“We have access to never-before-seen footage of Whitney that charts her whole life from her beginnings singing in her Church’s gospel choir, to the day of her tragic death at the age of 48 and three decades of her music including exclusive demo recordings, rare performances and audio archive. Although we won’t shy away from the darker parts of Whitney’s life – her descent into addiction – I want audiences to walk out of the cinema and feel positive about Whitney and her music. I want to reveal a woman that even her most die-hard fans never knew; and a woman those new to her life and music will never forget.”
Producer Simon Chinn adds, “My business partner Jonathan Chinn and I were thrilled when Lisa Erspamer brought this amazing project to us – and even more thrilled when Kevin Macdonald came on to direct. The opportunity to tell Whitney Houston’s story with full access to her music and those who knew her best was simply too good to pass up. By casting her story, her life choices and her work in a new light, we want to reassess the life and legacy of one of music’s biggest stars. Altitude Film Distribution, who are as passionate about the project as we are, are approaching the film as a major tent-pole release, and expect this to be one of 2017’s biggest cultural highlights.”
Will Clarke, Chairman and Co-CEO of Altitude Film Entertainment says, “Whitney’s story, brought to screen by Kevin Macdonald and this producing team, will make for a truly compelling theatrical event for audiences worldwide.”
The film will be released in the UK by Altitude Film Distribution, who released the Oscar® and BAFTA-winning AMY last year, which grossed a record-breaking £3.8 million at the UK box office.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody’, ‘I’m Every Woman’, ‘I Will Always Love You’, ‘Saving All My Love’, ‘Where Do Broken Hearts Go’, ‘Greatest Love Of All’, …??
