Released late summer 2016, the idea of doing a version of this great tune came about partly as a way to skillfully blend the jazzy soulful vocals of the inimitable Vanessa Freeman and Adriana Vasques with the signature Da Lata sound. The new formation of the band were now focusing mainly on their live performances. Brought to their attention by Patrick Forge, the band fell in love with the original track by Raffaella Renzulli, who absolutely loved the new treatment when she heard it. The Da Lata version became popular at clubs like Dingwalls and became an anthem every time it was played with crowds singing along to the catchy chorus. Produced by Chris Franck, ‘Asking Eyes’ is a swinging samba with a decidedly funky edge. It was never really given an official release, so now is the chance to listen to the track that Gilles Peterson referred to as a “summer anthem”.
