Hey everyone.....this is not the kind of press release where we are in search of coverage, though we would appreciate any exposure that can be provided. One of our clients, Big Sam's Funky Nation, had its van broken into this past Thursday at a tour stop in Las Vegas
"Someone smashed the windows in the van, stealing Sam's notorious long time trombone, JBlakk Henderson's bass guitar and Seizo Shibayama's guitar, amongst other personal items," said Stephen Klein, the band's manager. "The result of the break-in was a loss valued at roughly $12.5k, and of course irreplaceable sentimental value."
The band is led by trombone powerhouse, Big Sam Williams, formerly the trombonist for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, who some call “the top man on the slide trombone in the birthplace of jazz.” Big Sam’s Funky Nation is one of the top New Orleans bands and has found success in spreading the culture of New Orleans across the country through ltheir live shows.
R&D Design, a local New Orleans marketing agency, and fans of the band, have decided to donate their time and utilize crowdsourcing by setting up a GoFundMe page to raise the money necessary to get the band back on their feet. “We can’t replace the sentimental value, but hope to raise the money necessary to replace the stolen equipment” said Ryan Becnel, creative director of R&D Design. “All money raised through the campaign will go directly to replacing the equipment lost in the break-in.” The goal is to have the money raised to replace the equipment in the next two weeks and for the instruments to be in the hands of the band by early November.
For more information and to help the band replace their instruments, please visit the Friends of Funk website to order a t-shirt or the GoFundMe page to donate directly to the band’s stolen instruments. All proceeds will go directly to the band’s instrument purchase.
