Keys And Chords
When Wendy DeWitt, ex-pianist with Hank Ballard and Steve Freund and longtime international boogie woogie favorite known for her power house left hand joined with the jazz trained force of nature veteran Norton Buffalo drummer Kirk Harwood, the two shared a vision of creating a duo capable of holding its own on any stage. With creative arranging skills and an emotional sense of dynamics the duo succeeds with a full two fisted style, compelling and rich in texture. Selectively enlisting friends according to each song’s requirements results in a package of songs well rooted in tradition and ready for contemporary ears.
The bass expertise of Steve Evans on Never Be Too Much, and the Grammy award winning skills of trombonist/arranger Mike Rinta with Keith Crossan (sax) and Tom Poole (trumpet) adding richness to Sonoma County, Treat a Woman and Trouble, broaden the layers of Getaway, with Steve Fruend (Sunnyland Slim) providing soul only earned through years of playing guitar with many of Chicago’s blues legends.
The resulting album tells the story of change, growth, joy, disappointment and healing. Eight of the 11 songs are written by Wendy DeWitt, while Steve Freund contributed Folks Like You.
Mixed by Allen Sudduth at Prairie Sun and mastered by Mike Wells.
