​Deze vinyl bereikte ons net na Halloween, maar niet getreurd want deze tracks zullen je het ganse jaar door doen watertanden. Bovendien is Halloween een jaarlijks terugkerend evenement…..! Zoals de titel reeds doet vermoeden, bevat deze compilatie 14 zeldzame horrortracks die je de stuipen op het lijf dienen te jagen. De tracks dateren van de jaren ’50 en ’60 en bespelen de diverse rootsgenres.
Merv Griffin mag met het hoofdzakelijk instrumentale ‘House Of Horrors’ het feestje op gang trekken. Rockabilly griezelen kan je zonder gène op ‘I’m The Wolfman’ van Round Robin. In de vroege zestiger jaren was Round Robin zeer geliefd bij het dansend publiek. Later zou hij als funky soulzanger opnemen voor het Stax label. Heerlijke doo-wop, al is het griezeleffect hier toch eerder lieflijk, komt er met ‘Zombi’ van The Monotones. Screamin’ Jay Hawkins nam het griezelen wel heel erg persoonlijk. Hij transformeerde zichzelf in een monster, wat hij doortrok op het podium . Hier zet hij een fantastisch rockend ‘Little Demon’ neer en let ook op die sublieme gitaarsolo. Seriemoordenaar Jack The Ripper inspireerde Casey Jones and The Governors dan weer voor de gelijknamige rhythm & blues rocker.
Kant twee van deze vinyl opent met The Swingin’ Phillies die de titeltrack van deze compilatie een twistend tintje geven. The Swingin’ Phillies worden gevolgd door Rod Willis. Van hem krijg je de niet eerder uitgebrachte versie van het met kattengekrijs doorweven ‘The Cat’, een schitterend staaltje van hoe een rockabillysong hoort te klinken, met ook een prima gitaartje. Een obscuur figuur was Virgil Holmes. Hij nodigt je uit om plaats te nemen in de spooktrein met ‘Ghost Train’, die je hier door het knappe arrangement bijna letterlijk over de rails hoort rijden. Gillend en schreeuwend kondigen zich daarna Dick Barton’s Rebels aan met ‘Yes, Baby, I’m Scared’, een rockabillyknaller van formaat. Vrolijk werkt daarna Little Gerhard zich door het alles behalve schrik aanjagende, maar fantastisch rockend ‘Rockin’ Ghosts’. Compleet in horrorstijl, met rauwe zang, sluiten The Savoys met ‘The Mortal Monster Man’.
Met ‘Frankenstein’s Party’ trakteert Bear Family Records je op een duivels spookachtig samengaan van rockabilly en doo-wop, die zowel dj’s als verzamelaars naar waarde zullen weten te schatten. Frankenstein en zijn collega Igor zullen je alvast warm ontvangen!

This vinyl arrived just after Halloween, but don't worry, because these tracks will make your mouth water all year round. Besides, Halloween is an annual event……! As the title suggests, this compilation contains 14 rare horror tracks that are sure to give you the creeps. The tracks date from the '50s and '60s and explore various roots genres.
Merv Griffin gets the party started with the primarily instrumental ‘House Of Horrors’. Rockabilly horror can be enjoyed without any shame on ‘I'm The Wolfman’ by Round Robin. In the early '60s, Round Robin was a huge hit with dancing crowds. Later, he would record for the Stax label as a funky soul singer. Wonderful doo-wop, though the horror here is rather gentle, arrives with ‘Zombi’ by The Monotones. Screamin' Jay Hawkins took the horror very personally. He transformed himself into a monster, which he transferred to the stage. Here, he delivers a fantastically rocking ‘Little Demon’, and note that sublime guitar solo. Serial killer Jack the Ripper inspired Casey Jones and The Governors for the eponymous rhythm & blues rocker.
Side two of this vinyl opens with The Swingin' Phillies, who give the title track of this compilation a twisty touch. The Swingin' Phillies are followed by Rod Willis. He delivers the previously unedited version of the cat-screech-laced ‘The Cat’, a brilliant example of how a rockabilly song should sound, complete with a superb guitar. Virgil Holmes was a rather obscure figuur. He invites you to take a seat on a spooky train with ‘Ghost Train’, which, thanks to the clever arrangement, you can almost literally hear it riding along the rails. Screaming, Dick Barton's Rebels announce themselves with ‘Yes, Baby, I'm Scared’, a massive rockabilly banger. Little Gerhard then cheerfully works his way through the anything but scary, yet fantastically rocking ‘Rockin' Ghosts’. Completely horror-style, with raw vocals, The Savoys close with ‘The Mortal Monster Man’.
With ‘Frankenstein's Party’, Bear Family Records treats you to a devilishly spooky fusion of rockabilly and doo-wop, a hit that DJs and collectors alike will appreciate. Frankenstein and his colleague Igor will give you a warm welcome!
