​It’s been exactly 50 years since Al Jarreau released his groundbreaking debut album We Got By, marking the arrival of one of the most distinctive and genre-defying voices in modern music.

In 1975, the then 35-year-old psychology graduate from San Francisco signed with Reprise Records and delivered We Got By  a bold, self-penned debut that defied easy categorization. Blending jazz, soul, and pop influences, the album showcased Jarreau’s remarkable range and originality, setting the stage for an extraordinary career that would span decades.

While We Got By introduced the world to Jarreau’s genius, it was his follow-up album Glow that brought him chart success, success that would only grow with each subsequent release.
Now, this career-spanning 50-track collection celebrates Jarreau’s evolution as one of music’s most innovative vocal stylists. Covering his journey from We Got By (1975) to Tenderness (1994), the anthology features many of his most beloved songs, including “We’re In This Love Together,” “Mornin’,” “Boogie Down,” “So Good,” and “Moonlighting”  presented here with its sought-after extended remix  plus many more highlights.

From heartfelt expressions of love to dazzling jazz improvisations and infectious dance grooves, this collection pays tribute to a virtuosic performer whose fusion of styles brought a sophisticated jazz sensibility into the mainstream during the 1970s and ’80s.

The release also includes exclusive sleeve notes by Charles Waring, respected music journalist and contributor to MOJO, Record Collector, and uDiscover Music, offering new insight into Jarreau’s remarkable artistry and enduring influence.
