Big Radio Records artist Christopher Wyze & The Tellers step back into the spotlight today with the release of their new single, “I’m Going Back to Tennessee.” The track is the first preview of their upcoming album Naptown Blues, a project rooted deeply in the musical heritage of Indianapolis.

Originally recorded in 1929 by legendary Indianapolis bluesmen Leroy Carr and Scrapper Blackwell, “I’m Going Back to Tennessee” sets the tone for an 11‑song collection that celebrates the city’s once‑thriving blues scene. Carr and Blackwell’s groundbreaking partnership helped establish Indianapolis as a major force in early blues, shaping a sound that would echo far beyond the Midwest.

With Naptown Blues, Wyze aims to honor that legacy while bringing his own band’s voice to the music that defined the city’s cultural identity.

Wyze explains the approach behind the new single and the entire album:
“We recorded ‘I’m Going Back to Tennessee,’ and all the songs on this album, without drums or percussion. That’s the way Leroy and Scrapper recorded. You’ll also hear lots of acoustic instruments: acoustic guitar, acoustic bass, acoustic harmonicas, plus just a single vocal. Again, that’s how Carr and Blackwell recorded things.”

The result is a raw, intimate sound that channels the spirit of Indianapolis blues while giving it fresh life for a new generation.

Christopher Wyze & The Tellers blend the grit of traditional blues with the storytelling spirit of Americana, creating a sound that's raw, soulful, and unmistakably their own. Led by frontman and songwriter Christopher Wyze, the band's music captures life's highs, heartbreaks, and hard-earned lessons with honesty and fire. Their debut album, Stuck in the Mud, earned international acclaim and won the 2025 Blues Blast Music Award for Best New Artist Debut Album, landing on blues charts around the world. With authentic lyricism, powerhouse musicianship, and an energy that connects across generations, Christopher Wyze & The Tellers are redefining what modern blues can be—real, rootsy, and relentlessly human.
