Davey Jones Unveils Ball Cap Blues: A Modern Take on Mississippi Roots

South Mississippi native Davey Jones released Ball Cap Blues, a nine-song collection that highlights his distinctive blend of blues, Southern rock, gospel, and contemporary influences all firmly rooted in the Mississippi blues tradition. Known for performing nearly all the instrumentation on his recordings, Jones moves effortlessly from driving piano and guitar rhythms to laid-back grooves, upbeat funk, and modern blues beats, creating a multi-genre sound that remains unmistakably Southern.

Jones began performing at a young age in churches and gospel groups across the Southern United States, later incorporating Delta blues, Southern rock, and country into his style. Over more than 30 years of writing, recording, and performing, he has developed a high-energy, soulful approach that makes every live show a deeply personal experience. “It’s simply not enough to put on a good show you’ve got to involve the audience and make them feel like the show is dedicated to them,” says Jones, whose dedication to his fans is evident in every performance.

True to his Mississippi roots, Ball Cap Blues opens with “Banks of the Blues,” a heartfelt tribute to growing up in South Mississippi and the legends who paved the way for artists like him. From the driving rhythms of “Six Feet in the Ground” to the smooth, laid-back grooves of “Walking Easy,” the upbeat funk of “New Groove,” and the modern blues of “Woman I Love,” Jones showcases a versatility and creativity that is entirely his own.

Over the years, Jones has earned widespread recognition, including being named “Most Talented Musician” for the state of Louisiana in 2000. His guitar-driven style has drawn comparisons to legends such as Tab Benoit, Chuck Berry, Buddy Guy, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, while his songs have been featured on leading blues playlists and radio programs like Blues Legends.

With Ball Cap Blues, Davey Jones continues to evolve his sound while honoring his roots, offering a fresh, modern perspective on the blues that is both personal and timeless.
