Eddie 9V Reimagines George McCrae’s “Rock Your Baby” on Upcoming Album Down Here Atlanta guitarist and vocalist Eddie 9V has released a new single, “Rock Your Baby,” a fresh reinterpretation of George McCrae’s 1974 chart‑topping classic. The track will appear on his forthcoming album Down Here, set for release on November 6 via Easy Eye Sound. Produced by Grammy winner Dan Auerbach and recorded live at Easy Eye Sound Studio in Nashville, Eddie 9V’s version reshapes the disco staple into a Southern soul and blues‑driven groove, complete with swampy rhythms and slide guitar inspired by Duane Allman. Originally written by Harry Wayne Casey and Richard Finch of KC and the Sunshine Band, “Rock Your Baby” became a global hit in 1974, reaching No. 1 in both the U.S. and the U.K. Instead of recreating the original, Eddie 9V approached the song as if McCrae had recorded it at Muscle Shoals, backed by a gritty Southern soul band. Eddie and his group learned the tune shortly before cutting it live in the studio. “‘Rock Your Baby’ is a perfect example of me being out of my comfort zone,” Eddie says. “Dan was literally a foot away, singing each line to me and coaching me, and then we’d hit record. My band and I had never played it before — we listened, learned it in about twenty minutes, and went for it. I think it’s a good rendition with a strong Southern vibe.” The single follows earlier releases “Blowin’ Up” and “Whole Lot Coming For You,” both featured on Down Here. Auerbach produced the full album, which continues Eddie 9V’s signature blend of Southern soul, blues, rock and roll, funk, and R&B. The sessions also brought in collaborators including Marcus King, Pat McLaughlin, and Daniel Tashian. Down Here arrives on the heels of Eddie 9V’s 2024 album Saratoga. The Atlanta native began playing guitar at age six, explored metal and indie rock, and eventually discovered the blues through Howlin’ Wolf’s legendary 1966 Newport Folk Festival performance. He released his debut album Left My Soul In Memphis in 2019.
