GA-20 have teamed up with blues icon Charlie Musselwhite for Blues Now, a 10-track collaborative album arriving July 31, 2026 via New West Records. Produced by GA-20 guitarist Matthew Stubbs and recorded at Rare Signals in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the album has already drawn strong early reviews. MOJO praised it as an "intergenerational blues summit between the harmonica legend and the young trio" in a four-star review, while Uncut hailed the chemistry between the 82-year-old blues veteran and the Boston trio, noting that Musselwhite "still has the lungs to dispatch down 'n' dirty blues with a raging voice and howling harmonica."

A towering figure in modern blues, Musselwhite brings more than six decades of experience to the project. Since emerging in 2018, GA-20 have established themselves as one of the genre's leading contemporary acts, with four studio albums released through Colemine Records' Karma Chief imprint, each reaching No. 1 or No. 2 on the Billboard Blues chart. On Blues Now, the trio and Musselwhite meet as equals, blending classic Chicago blues traditions with GA-20's raw, high-energy approach. Rather than recreating the past, the album captures the enduring spirit of the blues while pushing it forward with fresh interpretations.

The collaboration began taking shape in early 2025 when GA-20 booked six days at Rare Signals and assembled a setlist featuring songs associated with blues legends including Elmore James, Junior Wells and Eddie Taylor, alongside two selections from Musselwhite's acclaimed 1968 debut album, Stand Back!.

"We tried to find songs that Charlie had a connection to or artists that he knew personally from Chicago, but also just songs that we liked and thought we could do justice," Stubbs explains. "The GA-20 sound has always lived in that world of late-'50s and early-'60s Chicago blues, but we didn't want to simply recreate Stand Back!. We wanted to be influenced by it and capture the spirit of that record."

Recorded live in the studio, the sessions embraced spontaneity and the imperfections that come from musicians performing together in real time. "We're so good we have to make mistakes on purpose," Musselwhite jokes. "Everything went smoothly. Making this album was as easy as falling off a log."

True to its title, Blues Now bridges generations while reaffirming the genre's vitality. Rooted in the Chicago blues sound that Musselwhite helped define in the 1960s and energized by GA-20's modern attack, the album presents the blues not as a nostalgic exercise but as a living, evolving tradition.

Blues Now will be available digitally, on CD and standard black vinyl. Limited vinyl editions include a Teal Marble pressing through Plaid Room Records and Seasick Records, a Green Splatter edition available exclusively from the band, and a Red Marble edition featuring an autographed insert from GA-20 and Charlie Musselwhite, available through independent retailers and New West Records.
