Kris Barras Band Drops Powerful New Single “Bad Things” Featuring Chris Tapp of The Cold Stares

Hollow Souls announce new self-titled “Hollow Souls” EP out 10th October

Kris Barras’ new UK blues-rock collective Hollow Souls returns with their third single, “Bad Things”, a powerhouse collaboration featuring Chris Tapp, the frontman of acclaimed American rockers The Cold Stares. The track is available on all major streaming platforms from Thursday, July 31st.

Following the success of previous releases “Borderline” (featuring guitarist Jared James Nichols) and “Shotgun” (with Jon ‘Marv’ Harvey of Monster Truck), Hollow Souls led by former MMA fighter turned rock frontman Kris Barras continues its run of high-octane transatlantic collaborations with this gritty new anthem.

Tapp, a Kentucky native now based in Indiana, is best known as the vocalist and guitarist of The Cold Stares, a long-running blues-rock duo recently expanded into a trio. His distinctive songwriting and southern-fried guitar work have helped define the band’s sound one that’s been featured across major video games and television campaigns.

Barras and Tapp, both signed to Mascot Records’ Provogue imprint, struck up a creative friendship in recent years, bonded by a shared passion for reinvigorating the blues-rock genre. “Bad Things” stands as a testament to their musical chemistry and shared vision for modern blues-rock with teeth.

With the core structure of the song already taking shape, Kris Barras and long-time collaborator Josiah J Manning immediately knew who to bring in to complete the track. Chris Tapp working remotely from his home studio in Evansville, Indiana was the natural choice to help co-write and elevate the song.

The result is a devilishly catchy, subtly swamp-tinged rocker that weaves Tapp’s effortlessly cool, bluesy verses with the powerful, punchy choruses delivered by Hollow Souls’ lead vocalist, Phoebe Jane.

“I’ve admired Chris and The Cold Stares for a long time,” says Barras. “I’d been waiting for the right song to collaborate on, and as soon as this one started coming together, I knew he was the guy to take it to the next level and he absolutely did.”

“When we were thinking about guests for the album, Chris was always near the top of my list. We became friends after meeting on the Joe Bonamassa ‘Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea’ cruise, and I’ve been a fan of his songwriting ever since.”

Barras adds, “It’s really important to me that our collaborators leave their own mark on the music. We sent Chris a rough sketch of what Josiah and I had put together, and he had full creative freedom with the verses. What he came back with blew us away  so much so that we turned the track into a full duet with Phoebe Jane.”
