Lucinda Williams Confronts a Fractured America on New Album “World’s Gone Wrong” Three-time Grammy Award winner Lucinda Williams has announced the release of her new album, World’s Gone Wrong, arriving January 23 via Highway 20 Records. Confronting the current social and political upheaval across America, the record is described as a raw, urgent, and unflinching collection, written and recorded in the spring of 2025. Framed as both wake-up call and battle cry, the album seeks out grace, grit, and resilience in a time of unrest. The opening title track, featuring rising Americana artist Brittney Spencer, sets the tone spotlighting the struggles of working-class life amid turbulent times, anchored by the defiant refrain: “come on baby, we gotta stay strong.” Across nine original songs, Williams continues to speak to themes of resistance, redemption, and human dignity. A standout moment comes with her timely interpretation of Bob Marley’s “So Much Trouble In The World,” recorded as a duet with the legendary Mavis Staples. Elsewhere, the blues-driven “How Much Did You Get For Your Soul” echoes the spiritual examination found on Williams’ acclaimed 2020 album Good Souls Better Angels. The rousing “Freedom Speaks” personifies liberty as a voice rising against apathy and injustice — a call to vigilance in dangerous times. The album closes on “We’ve Come Too Far to Turn Around,” featuring Norah Jones on piano and harmony vocals. Hymn-like and deeply felt, the track reflects on struggle, perseverance, and the refusal to retreat in the face of adversity. World’s Gone Wrong was co-produced by Tom Overby and longtime collaborator Ray Kennedy, who also handled recording and mixing at his Room & Board Studio in Nashville. Tracklist: 1.
