McKinley James has officially joined Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound roster, celebrating the signing with the release of the new music video for his latest single, “Back on the Run.”

The Rochester, New York-born guitarist, singer and songwriter becomes the latest addition to the Nashville-based label, further strengthening a relationship that has been years in the making. Before signing with Easy Eye Sound, James spent time working at the label’s acclaimed studio, where he learned under the guidance of Auerbach, the Black Keys frontman and Grammy-winning producer.

Over the past several years, James has emerged as one of the most exciting young voices in modern blues-rock and roots music. Combining blues, soul, vintage rock and roll and Motown-inspired influences, he has developed a sound that bridges classic traditions with contemporary energy. His guitar playing and songwriting reflect the influence of legends such as Otis Rush and Johnny “Guitar” Watson, while his live performances are powered by a dynamic rhythm section that includes his father, veteran drummer Jason Smay.

The Easy Eye Sound signing follows a steady run of independent releases, extensive touring and high-profile support slots alongside artists including ZZ Top and Eric Church. Known for championing artists rooted in blues, soul and American roots music, Easy Eye Sound provides a natural home for James’ growing career.

​Coinciding with the announcement, James has unveiled the official music video for “Back on the Run.” Created in partnership with DicE Magazine, the video captures the raw energy and vintage spirit that have become hallmarks of his live shows.

Raised in Webster, New York, just outside Rochester, James later relocated to Nashville, where he continues to build momentum as one of blues-rock’s rising stars. His latest material highlights his signature blend of rhythm and blues, soulful vocals and timeless rock influences that have earned him an expanding fanbase across both the United States and Europe.
