Walter Trout – Sign Of The Times Release date: September 5, 2025 Great artists take the pulse of their times and Walter Trout holds a mirror up to society’s anger and angst on Sign Of The Times, which will be released on September 5th via Provogue. He has also revealed his blistering new single “Artificial.” In his half-century as a street-level social observer and scaldingly honest songwriter, blues-rock’s resilient icon Walter Trout has never told his fans what to think, how to feel, or where to stand politically. But in an era when his home nation – and the wider world – is ripping at the seams over the battlelines of modern life, the iconic US bluesman’s hard-rocking new album, Sign Of The Times, is a primal scream and pressure valve for all of us. “I wanted to reflect upon what’s going on in the world,” explains the 74-year-old Trout. “For me, writing these songs is therapy. They’re not just about what’s happening out there, but how it affects you in your head. Sign Of The Times just became the obvious title…” The album bursts open with its fiery lead single and opening track, “Artificial”—a biting, satirical blues-rock anthem laced with harmonica, aimed squarely at the synthetic world we’re drifting toward. “We’ve got artificial photos, artificial music—you could go on and on,” the bluesman muses. “AI freaks me out. I read about all the amazing things it’s supposed to do in medicine. Then I hear Bill Gates say 80% of jobs could vanish. What happens then?” It’s as if the amps from 2024’s Broken—which debuted at #1 on Billboard—barely had time to cool. But the songs on Sign of the Times demanded to be heard. Urgent and electrified, the riffs poured from his guitar with purpose, backed once again by his wife, manager, and co-writer, Marie, who penned lyrics for several tracks. “This album came together pretty easily,” he reflects. “I had a ton of ideas and pages of lyrics from Marie. Honestly, we could’ve kept going and made a triple album.” Tracks: 1. Artificial 2. Blood On My Pillow 3. Sign of the Times 4. Mona Lisa Smile 5. Hurt No More 6. No Strings Attached 7. I Remember 8.
