The 1971 classic — which captured the band at the absolute peak of their powers, on timeless tracks such as ‘Brown Sugar,’ ‘Wild Horses,’ ‘Bitch,’ ‘Sister Morphine’ and ‘Dead Flowers’ — will be reissued by Universal Music in a variety of formats worldwide on May 25 2015 (May 26 in North America).
The reissue arrives as the Rolling Stones continue to captivate audiences around the world with their stunning live performances. Last year’s 14 On Fire tour saw the band play for over a million fans and in 2015 the Stones will set out on a North American tour of stadiums and festivals. It also featured some of the most ground breaking artwork in rock history by Andy Warhol with its famous working zip on the front cover. Recreated in the Super Deluxe and Double Vinyl Deluxe Editions of the new package. ‘Sticky Fingers’ has been repeatedly hailed as one of the Stones’ all-time great albums, capturing their trademark combination of swagger and tenderness in a superb collection. It continued the incredible outpouring of creative energy that had produced 1968’s ‘Beggars Banquet’ and ‘Let It Bleed’ in 1969. After ‘Sticky Fingers’, the Stones’ relocation to the south of France led to the double album masterpiece ‘Exile On Main St.’ The highly acclaimed ‘Sticky Fingers’ showcased the ever more inventive song writing of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and formidable guitar licks from Mick Taylor. The new editions of ‘Sticky Fingers’ follow the worldwide critical and commercial success of the Stones’ two previous deluxe reissues, for ‘Exile’ itself (which took the album back to No. 1 in the UK in 2010, 38 years after it first topped the chart) and the 1978 classic ‘Some Girls,’ repackaged in 2011. As with those expanded releases, millions of Stones devotees will be hugely excited by not only the original album but the generous selection of previously unavailable material contained within the Deluxe and Super Deluxe formats. These include the alternative version of the chart-topping single ‘Brown Sugar’ featuring Eric Clapton; unreleased interpretations of ‘Bitch,’ ‘Can’t You Hear Me Knocking’ and ‘Dead Flowers’; an acoustic take on the anthemic ‘Wild Horses’, and five tracks recorded live at The Roundhouse in 1971 including ‘Honky Tonk Women’ and ‘Midnight Rambler.’ The Super Deluxe edition will also house ‘Get Yer Leeds Lungs Out!’ the 13-track audio recording of the Stones’ gig in Leeds in March 1971, shortly before their “exile” in France began. The set included versions of the just-completed ‘Brown Sugar,’ ‘Bitch’ and ‘Dead Flowers,’ one of their many authentic forays into country music territory. There’s also a chance to see two numbers from the band’s famous Marquee Club show of March 26, 1971. Other features of the Super Deluxe Edition include a beautiful 120 page hardback book complete with real zip, featuring new liner notes and many rare and unseen photographs from the era plus a print, postcard set and more. The first sessions that led to ‘Sticky Fingers’ took place as far back as December 1969, in the remote location of Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, Alabama. The band then reconvened, back home in the UK both at Olympic and with the Rolling Stones Mobile parked up at Mick Jagger’s Stargroves home. On April 23, 1971, 504 days after that first session in Alabama, ‘Sticky Fingers’ was released, cheered on by media and public alike. “It is the latest beautiful chapter in the continuing story of the greatest rock group in the world,” wrote Rolling Stone. As the album hit the shops that spring, ‘Brown Sugar’ hit the charts, and by early May, ‘Sticky Fingers’ had become the band’s sixth UK #1 LP. Its four-week reign was matched by its performance in the US, and it also raced to the top in Australia, Canada and through much of Europe. As the aura grew around this essential part of the Stones’ epic story, the album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and became one of their four titles in the top 100 of Rolling Stone’s critics’ poll of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The welcome reappearance of ‘Sticky Fingers’ will not only restate the pre-eminence of this album landmark, but add even greater distinction to perhaps the greatest catalogue in rock music. Vier jaar na haar eerste plaat heeft Selah Sue nog altijd niet met de demonen uit haar verleden afgerekend. Reason bevat akoestische ballades (‘I Won’t go for more), disco invloeden uit de jaren 80 (Alone), een stralende liefdesverklaring aan HipHop (Together), een vocale krachttoer beïnvloed door Triphop (Fear Nothing) en nog zo veel meer. Reason is de vocale ontplooiing van een soulzangeres met akoestische gitaar, verrijkt door backing vocals met motown invloeden, strijkersarrangementen en een veelheid aan tempowisselingen. Bobbi Kristina has been moved from Atlanta’s Emory University Hospital to an undisclosed rehab/hospice facility, according to multiple reports. Unfortunately, it’s not because her condition is improving.
She still remains in a coma after a nearly-2 month hospital stay under the care of doctors. A source tells RadarOnline the move to the rehab/hospice facility is per doctor’s orders and standard hospital procedures. “The hospital can only hold you for so long and that you have to be moved to rehab or hospice at this point,” the source said. “She is not being rehabbed, she is being moved due to hospital policy.” According to Entertainment Tonight, BK’s family remains hopeful; in an effort to see how she responds, they will have her breathing tube removed. Last month, doctors attempted to wean her off of the coma-inducing drugs, but she suffered multiple seizures. In een lange brief geven de kinderen van Marvin Gaye hun kijk op het vonnis. "We willen een aantal misvattingen rechtzetten over onze intenties en plannen. 'Got to Give It Up' was een van de meest gekoesterde hits van papa. Ze hadden voor het nummer, zoals alle artiesten, een licentie kunnen vragen zoals alle andere artiesten dat doen", schrijven zijn kinderen Nona Gaye, Frankie Gaye en Marvin Gaye III. Dwayne O’Brien, guitarist/vocalist and founding member of Little Texas, tells the story behind “Slow Ride Home,” a song from the band’s long-awaited new studio album. “We were on a bus heading toward a show in Rooks County, Kansas, just north of Hays. While still a long way out of town, we started to notice a lot of American flags lining the highway, and at every little crossroads and at the corners of the fields there were people on foot, on motorcycles, and standing in the beds of their pickups all waving their own small flags. This went on for miles and miles. It wasn’t the 4th of July, Veteran’s Day or Flag Day, so we wondered what was up. Later, we found out we had been riding just ahead of the funeral procession for a local soldier who had made the ultimate sacrifice. Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Bryan J. Nichols, a native of the area, was killed on August 6, 2011, when the Chinook helicopter that he was flying was shot down while carrying members of the Extortion 17 special operations unit in Afghanistan (the same Seal Team Six that later brought down Bin Laden). Seeing the way that town welcomed their fallen hero home really moved us to write the song.”  Like the recent hit film “American Sniper,” “Slow Ride Home” is a powerful and moving piece of storytelling that speaks not only to the profound sorrow caused by the death of a soldier but also to the cathartic healing made possible by the love and support of ordinary folks from ordinary towns all across America. That theme of small town life, from the highs of falling in love and partying on weekends to the lows of paying last respects to a local hero, runs right through the heart of Young For A Long Time, the extraordinary new album set to be released on April 14 by Cleopatra Records. Duane Propes, the group’s bass player, declares it “the best album we have ever made” and he may be on to something. Undoubtedly the band has never sounded more confident, as the chorus of the titular lead off track proudly declares “Don’t you know by now we’ve got this down / That Friday night fire still hasn’t gone out / We got a rock solid life and a rock n’ roll state of mind / We were born to run / So sit down, son / We’ll show you just how it’s done / ‘Cause we’ve been young for a long time.” The musicianship has only improved with age as well with Porter Howell truly coming into his own as the band’s lead vocalist in addition to his dazzling lead guitar work, and backed by the always solid playing of drummer Del Gray. “Young For A Long Time pretty much runs the gamut of everything we’ve ever done, plus takes us down some new roads as well,” Propes continues, “the vocals are there, the guitar work is there, the party songs are there, the ‘make you cry’ love songs, the songs about Texas. We even dive off into swamp rock and torch music, so each songs has a totally different fuel behind it.”
As part of the Young Country movement of the early ‘90s, Little Texas were responsible for shaking up the country music world with a new, energetic sound that fused the look and attitude of modern rock music with traditional country themes and styles, bringing a much appreciated bolt of life into the genre. Accompanied by such stellar musicians as keyboardist Mitchel Forman, bassist Jimmy Earl, percussionist Luis Conte and drummer Michael Barsimanto, Douvan pushes the envelope on nine original compositions and one well-chosen cover tune. “I see it as a continuum of the jazz, blues and soul music I featured on the last album, with a little bit more rock thrown in this time,” says the former Detroit session man who is currently an in-demand player on the Los Angeles studio scene.
'All Over Again' is the third CD released by composer-bandleader-guitarist Thom Douvan. Like his earlier soul-jazz tribute to the Motown Funk Brothers 'Brother Brother', which one critic called a “throw-back release with plenty of modern day flair”, Douvan's new recording 'All Over Again' recalls an era in music when the labels on music did not matter. Painting with a broad musical palette, the music on this new CD runs the gamut from soul to smooth jazz, adult contemporary to jazz fusion, World music to New Orleans funk, and straight ahead jazz. This record features all original instrumental and vocal compositions by Thom, plus a lovely vocal ballad written by fellow Detroit guitarist Kenny Burrell sung by the great Lynne Fiddmont, who is currently on tour with Natalie Cole and has previously sung with Stevie Wonder, George Duke, and the Crusaders. The basic rhythm tracks on 'All Over Again' were recorded at Stagg Street Studio in Van Nuys, California in two day-long sessions featuring the killer rhythm section of Mitchel Forman on piano, Michael Barsimanto on drums, Jimmy Earl on Fender bass, and Trey Henry on acoustic bass. Overdubs and mixing were performed at several studios in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. Final mixing was performed by Co-Producer Michael Parlett at Talented Studio in Los Angeles. “This is a snapshot of some of my favorite influences and music,” says Douvan, who cites Billy Cobham’s 'Spectrum', Robben Ford’s 'Inside Story' and David Spinozza’s self-titled debut from 1978 as big inspirations for this recording. “I just kind of stood out of the way and let the music happen. And with the caliber of players on this record, I didn’t have anything to worry about.” Along the way you can also hear the influence of such respected rhythm guitarists and soulful soloists as David T. Walker, Phil Upchurch and Cornell Dupree in his playing, as well as touches of such jazz icons as Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, Larry Carlton and Detroit’s own Kenny Burrell. From fusion (“Sephardia”) to smooth jazz (“Deja Vu All Over Again”), swinging jazz (“Wes Coasting”), classical and bluegrass (“Rhonda”) and funk (“Believe in You”), Douvan cuts a wide stylistic swath on his third outing as a leader. And he comes by his eclecticism honestly. Thom recalls, “Growing up in Ann Arbor in the early '70s, I came of age musically seeing all the great performers like Count Basie, Miles Davis, Magic Sam, Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, The Duke Ellington Orchestra and others at the Ann Arbor Blues & Jazz Festival. It really was an era where there were not so many barriers between different kinds of music. People could go between styles easily. I really miss that freedom, so I wanted to explore that on my own self-produced CDs.” Though Thom currently splits his time between the Bay Area and Los Angeles, his heart is still deeply imbedded in the Motor City, where he gained invaluable bandstand experience during the '80s with a group of former Motown session men collectively known as The Funk Brothers. Those funk and soul-jazz roots run deep with the Ann Arbor native, proving you can take the man out of Detroit, but you can’t take Detroit out of the man! While attending law school in Ann Arbor, Douvan began playing with The Funk Brothers around 1985, long before those Detroit musicians appeared in the successful 2002 documentary 'Standing in the Shadows of Motown', which effectively launched their second career. He worked with The Funk Brothers until 1992, when he relocated to California. While Douvan has accumulated an abundance of chops since his stint at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and his subsequent 40 years as a working professional, he downplays his technical prowess. Says Thom, “I'm into the soul groove. I like to lay into the pocket. I'm a roots player. I love Americana...anything from the roots. Dat meldt muziekblad Rolling Stone op gezag van zijn broer en toetsenist Steve Porcaro.
Mike Porcaro werd officieel lid van Toto na het vertrek van de originele bassist David Hungate ten tijde van het zeer succesvolle album Toto IV (1992). Hij vond bij de band zijn broers Steve en drummer Jeff terug. Jeff Porcaro overleed in 1992. ALS In 2007 stopte Mike Porcaro het touren met de band, hij leed immers aan ALS. Uiteindelijk verloor hij zondagmorgen (plaatselijke tijd) de strijd tegen de spierziekte. Hij overleed thuis in Los Angeles tijdens zijn slaap. Mike Porcaro tourde ook met onder andere Michael Franks, Seals & Crofts en Boz Scaggs. Europese tournee langs Zottegem Toto maakte vooral naam met singles als 'Hold the Line', 'Rosanna' en 'Africa', waarbij de band op een mengelmoes van rock, pop, jazz en hardrock trakteert. In mei start de band een Europese tournee die op 10 juli halt houdt in Zottegem.  Singer Sarah Brightman has spoken about her planned trip to the International Space Station as she prepares for her upcoming journey. A life long dream come true, Sarah has been training since January after being accepted by the Russian Federal Space Agency as a spaceflight participant for a planned flight arranged by Space Adventures, Ltd. Learning everything from wilderness survival to the Russian language, Sarah's passion for space is about to become a reality. 'When I was 9 years old, I watched the first man on the moon,' she explains, 'It actually changed my perception about life. Suddenly, my mind opened and I started to really work on the career I have now. 'I thank that moment, it was pivotal in my life. I never really talked about it as it could never be a reality, it was all very abstract. But it was always my ambition to fly to space, it's something I dreamed about and wanted. 'I now have the luck, I'm going up on the Russian Soyuz to the International Space Station. And if possible, I want others to take inspiration from my journey and chase their own dreams." In preparation for her 10 day stay aboard the International Space Station, she is learning to conduct various scientific experiments, one of which will be the effect of zero gravity on her voice. On top of the intense training in Star City, Russia, she has not forgotten about music and will become the first ever international artist to perform live from space. 'I live with the thought of this travel every second of my life. I wake up with it, I go to sleep with it, I dream of it. I cannot believe this is happening." On a break in training, she has been working with her most famous collaborator, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber who has written a song for Sarah to celebrate her space flight, recorded in New York in the last week. Later this year, she will release a retrospective of her career that will include this special song. And Sarah today revealed her personal Mission Patch, which every Cosmonaut designs for their mission. It captures the classic historic spirit of space travel and exploration, while using a female figure as the central motif ' highlighting the potential of women to succeed in the worlds of science and technology, traditionally the preserve of men. Sarah is working together with Challenger Center and NASA, to launch a programme to excite students about science, technology, engineering and mathematics and teach them how the arts can help unleash innovation and inspiration. Students will create videos using lyrics from one of Sarah Brightman's songs. Video entries will be posted online for public viewing and voting and the top entries and other fan favorites will be used to create one musical mashup video. The summer-long initiative will culminate in a special event during Sarah's time aboard the ISS. Het was, zeg maar, enkele jaren stil rond hen maar dat had zeker te maken met deze nieuwe release waar serieus aan gewerkt werd. 45 jaar geleden startte Irish Coffee in Aalst en liet van zich horen met de single “Masterpiece/The Show” . Kort daarna volgde een album dat uitgroeide tot een der meest gezochte collector-items ter wereld. Zelfs tot in het verre Japan stond (en nog steeds) dit album op de lijst van alle grote verzamelaars.
Niemand had ooit van de band gehoord en het merendeel van de muziekliefhebbers die toen met het sterke ‘The Show/Masterpiece’ geconfronteerd werden, gingen er steevast vanuit dat het hier een nieuwe Britse of Amerikaanse band betrof. Zo zie je maar hoe geweldig hun sound begin jaren zeventig wel klonk. Rockmuziek uit Vlaanderen, niemand had het hen op deze manier voor gedaan!! William Souffreau zanger van de band heeft na wat rondzwerven in verschillende bands en een solo-carrière, de groep opniew opgestart in 2005 met een studio-album en een live-album voor Rockpalast (WDR). In 2013 nam hij samen met zijn powerrocktrio het voortreffelijke “IC-Revisited” op. Nu twee jaar later is er hun nieuw album: “When The Owl Cries”. De band bestaat nu samen met William Souffreau op Guitar & vocals uit, Franky Cooreman -Bass, Kris Vandercammen -Drums en Stany Van Veer – Organ & Piano. Op de plaat zijn er als gastmuzikanten; Jan Oelbrandt – Lapsteel (Dobrojean) en Luc Crabbe -Backingvocals (Betty Goes Green). De opname en de productie was ook in handen van Luc Crabbe in Lunabarn- Studio. Mastering werd gedaan in de Dada Studio.  Er zijn 12 songs opgenomen waarvan 10 nieuw geschreven door William Souffreau. “I gotta move” is van The Kinks als ode aan hun 50 jaar bestaan en ook een hernomen minder bekende B side van een single van IC uit 1973 “I'm alive”. De tekst voor de song van“I hate War” is een quote van Franklin D. Roosevelt uit 1936 over en tegen WO1. Muzikaal is dit nieuw, scherp rockende album een mix van een halve eeuw Classic rock & blues , met teksten over de geestige en ook serieuze gebeurtenissen uit het leven van een rockmuzikant. Prince presenteerde de track op het Amerikaanse radiostation WFPK, meldt Consequence of Sound. Prince begint zijn Amerikaanse tournee 'Hit and Run' morgen met vier uitverkochte shows in Louisville Palace. 'What If' is het eerste nieuwe nummer van Prince sinds hij zijn soloalbum 'Art Official Age' vorig jaar uitbracht, gelijktijdig met het album 'Plectrumelectrum'. Tijdens zijn 'Hit and Run'-tournee speelde hij er enkele nummers van, waaronder de single 'Pretzelbodylogic'. Wanneer Dion weer op het podium verschijnt, is niet bekend. Met het nieuws hoopt de woordvoerder zorgen van fans weg te nemen en verzekert hij hen dat Dion binnenkort weer op de bühne verschijnt. De zangeres (46) kampte sinds juli met keelproblemen en wilde thuisblijven om voor haar zieke man, de 73-jarige René Angelil, te zorgen. Hij liet in december 2013 een tumor verwijderen. "Ik wil al mijn kracht en energie steken in mijn mans herstel", zei Dion destijds op haar Facebookpagina. De Britse muzikant wordt op 30 maart zeventig jaar en viert dat op 1 en 2 mei met concerten in het beroemde stadion. Het wordt de 46ste en 47ste keer dat Clapton in Madison Square Garden optreedt. Andy Fairweather Low zal met zijn band Low Riders de show voor Clapton openen. De band liet ter promotie van haar album 'Drones' de hoes op de gevel van het paleis projecteren en dat stoot daar op tegenstand. "Wij nemen contact op met Warner Music", klinkt het. Brusselaars en toeristen wreven zich woensdagnacht even in de ogen. Op de gevel van het koninklijk paleis stond plots de hoes van 'Drones', het nieuwe studio-album van de Britse rockband Muse. De formatie, deze zomer de grote afsluiter van Rock Werchter, wilde daarmee haar jongste worp in de kijker plaatsen. Het paleis reageert ontzet. "Wij waren niet op de hoogte en er werd ook geen aanvraag ingediend", aldus Pierre-Emmanuel De Bauw, directeur Media en Communicatie. "Het paleis staat symbool voor een instituut en is de officiële werkplaats van onze koning. Wij gaan Warner Music snel contacteren en aandringen op een gesprek. Het paleis kan niet worden gebruikt voor commerciële doeleinden." Of er ook een gerechtelijke procedure wordt opgestart, wilde men gisteren niet kwijt. "We willen een signaal geven, maar over de inhoud daarvan communiceren we niet." Puur toeval
Bij Warner Music, het platenhuis van Muse, worden de feiten niet ontkend. "Ter lancering van het nieuwe album werd ons door de band gevraagd iets creatiefs te doen", aldus David Dalemans. "De hele actie werd in 24 uur op poten gezet en wereldwijd uitgevoerd in 9 landen." Al stond de werkplaats van de koning oorspronkelijk niet op de agenda. "Bij onze rondrit door Brussel kwamen we na bezoekjes aan Manneke Pis en de Reyerstoren langs bij het paleis. We zagen dat de koning aanwezig was en dus kregen we het idee om samen met de firma BEAM-INC de hoes ook op het paleis te projecteren. Een zeer origineel beeld, vonden we. Maar eigenlijk gebeurde het puur toevallig en er was zeker geen kwaad opzet mee gemoeid." Eerder tekende ook onze eigenste Regi al eens voor zo'n stunt. In de lange periode dat ons land zonder regering zat, liet hij de naam van zijn nieuwe plaat 'Nomansland' op de gevel van Wetstraat 16 projecteren. For those unfamiliar with the group’s history, The Coasters scored their first hit single “Down In Mexico” in the spring of 1956, which they followed in 1957 with “Young Blood” and “Searchin’” the following year. In 1958, the band again hit the chart with two blockbuster hits that would become as iconic as the band that sang them, “Yakety Yak” and “Charlie Brown.” From then on, it was hit after hit for the group with songs such as “Poison Ivy,” “Along Came Jones,” “Love Potion #9,” “Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart” and many more! The line-up of The Coasters that was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 (Carl Gardner, Billy Guy, Will Jones, Cornell Gunter) have all since passed but their legacy lives on with the help of Joe Lance Williams (tenor/baritone), Primo Candelara (tenor), Dennis Anderson (baritone), and Eddie Whitfield (bass). Three of these gifted vocalists were personally handpicked by group founder Carl Gardner, with Dennis coming aboard in 2011 after Carl had passed. Though often imitated, they have never been duplicated and they continue to do what they do best on both the stage and in the studio, entertain the audience!
