Today Whitney Houston and Kygo released a new single “Higher Love”. The single marks the first new Whitney Houston music released in a decade, since 2009’s “I Look To You.” Whitney originally recorded the cover of Steve Winwood’s “Higher Love” and released it as a Japan-only bonus track on her “I’m Your Baby Tonight” album in 1990.
Pat Houston said of the single, “The Estate of Whitney E. Houston and our new partner Primary Wave are delighted with the collaboration between KYGO and WHITNEY. We knew KYGO would be the right producer to enhance Whitney’s powerful vocal performance on ‘Higher Love,’ to the standards and expectations that Whitney’s fans have recognized for over three decades. The resurgence of this precious archival performance will carry Whitney’s musical legacy on to a younger generation for years to come. Everyone should be ready to dance to this uplifting and inspiring record - a testament to KYGO’s incredible talent, and a reminder of why we fell in love with Whitney from the very beginning!!!”

It began in the late 2000s, a few years after the passing of Thomas’ wife of 25 years. Still in a dark place and emotionally distant from his vibrant, earlier musical lifetimes, he ran into his old friend, keyboardist/bassist/drummer David Floyd, who convinced him to start writing music again. To jump start his creativity, Thomas, despite his initial skepticism, posted songs from his long ago released album Ocean Song online – and quickly hit the viral jackpot. In its first two months, over 227,000 listened to the resurrected recording, resulting in an astounding 1.5 million-plus plays.
Greatly encouraged and getting his long set aside creative mojo back, Thomas, Floyd and guitarist Pat Walters formed the James Thomas Band and recorded the multi-faceted concept album The Courthouse and the Redemption. Produced by Thomas, who sang lead and played acoustic guitar, the recording, driven by country rock foundations heavily seasoned with blues/rock influences, earned him an enthusiastic following in Europe – and the unique experience of being a middle-aged musician earning a following dominated by fans of the ages 13-18. The music of the James Thomas Band is particularly popular in Spain, Italy (from Sicily to Milan), Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Morocco, Ethiopia and Venezuela. In the handful of years since the release of The Courthouse and the Redemption, the James Thomas Band has evolved significantly. “Eileen” and the other 10 tracks of The Loves of My Life – which will also be released in a special limited vinyl edition - feature the explosive new lineup of renowned veteran guitarist/producer Andre Ferreri, lead guitarist, bassist, drummer and keyboardist Mat Sigmon and lead guitarist Alan Rueda, who began performing in bands with Thomas when the two were in their late teens. Ferreri and Sigmon are graduates of the famed Berklee School of Music in Boston. Ferreri has multi-genre history that extends back several decades and includes performing with the funk/soul band Powerhouse and jazz/rock instrumental group Airstreeam, performing with the Charlotte Symphony and Greensboro Symphony and doing sessions and live performances with legendary artists like Brook Benton, Maurice Williams, Dave Valentin, Herbie Mann and Sam Moore. Rueda’s electric guitar expertise and years of performing experience mirrors and complements the explosive power of Ferrari and Sigmon’s formal jazz-based education to create Thomas’ most potent lineup yet. “We’ve really come together as a cohesive band with great chemistry these past few years, and we’re looking forward to getting out and sharing the new songs live,” Thomas says. “The Loves of My Life is more focused than the ‘Courthouse’ album, which had me exploring all kinds of genres, from jazz to blues to pop. Because I grew up in Durham, that country twang will always be a part of me, yet as a unit we’re all about soulful blues-rock and we wanted this album and all future recordings to reflect what we’re really great at. “I think ‘Eileen’ in particular will open up our sound to audiences on both sides of the Pond,” he adds. “It resonates as a rocker, a country song and a pop tune, and allowed my voice to be at its most emotional. I think people are responding to it so positively because it tells a good story. This takes me back to my earliest country influences, including Hank Williams, Sr., who was a masterful storyteller. That’s basically what country music is about. When I originally wrote ‘Eileen,’ I didn’t realize it would become such a meaningful song to people. Yet it resonates because it’s honest and true and really strikes a chord.” While most of the original tracks on The Loves of My Life are very recent compositions, “Eileen” – a co-write with Ferreri - is unique in that Thomas penned the original version of it when he was just 17. Living in Durham, he was moved to tears by the local story of a Duke co-ed of that name who was killed by a trash truck when she was distracted walking and stepped off a curb. Though he never met the girl, he turned the tragedy into a personal reflection of losing a great love who both brought him down and “picked me up like a clown.” Other key tracks on The Loves of My Life include two previously released singles “Siren” and “Meet Me on the Corner.” “Siren” is an edgy mid-tempo rocker (heavily influenced by the classic “All Along the Watchtower” that finds Thomas refashioning the classic Odyssey tale about a lonely woman who is searching for true love but has a hard time connecting with men. A funky old school horn-drenched soul-rocker, “Meet Me on the Corner” is about a guy trying to get closer to a sheltered girl whose parents disapprove of him. Another can’t miss gem is “Soul Shake,” which Thomas describes as “a religious-like rock song about intense desire, confronting mortality and looking forward to a love of a more eternal nature. “Suicide Blues” is a poignant classic styled rocker about a chronically troubled singer in one of Thomas’ previous bands who tried to leap off a mountain years ago during a photo shoot. The lone cover is the gentle piano and guitar driven cover of Larry Norman’s hard hitting, religious themed “I Wish We’d All Been Ready,” featuring one of Thomas’ most tender vocals. The James Thomas Band’s current success among European listeners is no surprise considering that Thomas – who was born in Durham, North Carolina, spent three years of his childhood in Verona, Italy. His father was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army attached to NATO as their comptroller. Thomas attended an Italian school from first through third grade. Two of the early obstacles he had to overcome were a terrible speech impediment and being trained to switch from being left to right handed. Two years ago, during an interview with the best-known radio DJ in Milan about working on The Loves of My Life, Thomas blew his host away by speaking fluent Italian. He also spent part of his childhood in Boston and Durham. “Inspired by my late wife, who spent much of her career as a psychologist at Duke and taught me about the inner workings of the mind, I have always found it natural to write songs about the human condition,” Thomas says. “She was always my greatest fans and I know she would love the fact that I’m making music again from a perspective of having a deeper understanding now about how relationships go. Many years ago, I almost signed a deal in Nashville, but a difficult encounter with a record company executive made me change my mind. Making music on my own terms now, I can enjoy my success much more than I could have in those days,” he adds. “Back then, I had no objectivity and I was not as strong and refined a songwriter as I am today. I would just throw out the first thing that popped into my head and go with it. Now I carefully craft every single word and feel like I can communicate my feelings so much better. I’ve always understood the impact of music, but now I understand the power of words and always keep in mind how people will receive and relate to them.” Jerry Carrigan, a celebrated session drummer heard on famed Nashville recordings from Elvis Presley, Waylon Jennings and Kenny Rogers, died last week, according to the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. He was 75.
Raised on Fats Domino and Little Richard, Carrigan began his Music City career at age 13, cutting a Nashville session with Little Joe Allen and the Off Beats. A native of Florence, Alabama, Carrigan spent his early adult years at the notable FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, where he crafted a technique on sessions with early FAME breakouts Arthur Alexander and Jimmy Hughes. In 1964, Carrigan played in the Muscle Shoals backing band that opened for the Beatles' first United States concert, at the Washington Coliseum in Washington D.C. Carrigan moved to Nashville in 1965, quickly becoming a go-to session drummer with excellent timing and an irreplaceable “big, fat snare” sound. It may be impossible to play through country music’s most notable tracks of the 1960s and 1970s and not hear Carrigan’s percussion work. His drums landed on Kenny Rogers' “The Gambler,” Jennings' track “Only Daddy That’ll Walk The Line,” Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Middle Age Crazy,” Charlie Rich’s “Behind Closed Doors” and the 1980 George Jones hit “He Stopped Loving Her Today.” The list continues, with Carrigan credited for work with Kris Kristofferson, Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire, Charley Pride, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Dolly Parton and numerous others. The demand for Carrigan swelled in 1977, the Alabama Music Hall of Fame notes, where he’d be wanted for 12 sessions a week. He wasn’t just sought after in country music, either. Carrigan laid down work in pop and folk music of the time, playing for Tom Jones, Johnny Mathis and Joan Baez. He also helped craft jingles, offering his experience to McDonald’s, KFC and Coca Cola, among others. Carrigan tracked on John Denver’s famed 1981 album “Some Days Are Diamond,” opening a door to tour with the singer-songwriter from 1981 to 1989. He also shared the touring stage with Charlie McCoy, Porter Wagoner, Johnny Rivers and Ronny and the Daytonas. The Country Music Hall of Fame honored Carrigan in 2009 as part of the ongoing “Nashville Cats” series; The Alabama Music Hall of Fame inducted Carrigan in 2010. Carrigan died in Chattanooga of an unknown illness, the Times Daily of Florence, Alabama reported.
Live 16/10, Vorst Nationaal “CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATION” OUT ON JULY 26th, 2019 ON earMUSIC. Vocalist Ian Gillan, together with Robert Plant, Ozzy Osbourne and a few others, is considered one of the legendary voices that shaped hard rock. Despite his commitment to Deep Purple, the singer has built an impressive solo career. “Contractual Obligation” is a collection of performances during a recent tour through Eastern Europe, which contains three shows which will be released on different formats via earMUSIC on July 26, 2019:
Contractual Obligation #1: Live In Moscow (On Blu-ray) Contractual Obligation #2: Live In Warsaw (On 2CD & digital) Contractual Obligation #3: Live In St. Petersburg (On 3LP) Still fresh from the success of the studio album “NOW What?!”, and just a few months before the release of the latest and equally successful album “inFinite”, Ian Gillan accepted the offer to tour for a month in Eastern Europe with a full rock show, accompanied every night by a different local orchestra. Gillan decided to recruit the Don Airey Band, which features the guitar talent of Simon McBride. All shows were truly unique, with Airey and McBride delivering perfect performances night after night. Deep Purple material (including rarities like “Razzle Dazzle” or “Anya”) went hand in hand with Gillan solo songs and surprises for those into the deepest catalogue. The title is a humorous reference to Ian Gillan’s notorious reticence to pay any attention to his own or Deep Purple live releases (as he explains in the album liner notes). This live album and video might well be one of the nicest chapters in Gillan’s solo production ever and a reminder about how great his solo music and concerts have been over the years. Curiosity: The last Deep Purple album was named “Infinity” (which later turned into: “inFinite”) during the afternoon preceding the Warsaw show that ended up being immortalized for its CD release. “Contractual Obligation” will be available on Blu-Ray (Contractual Obligation #1: Live In Moscow), 2CD & digital (Contractual Obligation #2: Live In Warsaw) and as a 3LP+Download (Contractual Obligation #3: Live In St. Petersburg) on July 26, 2019 on earMUSIC. more info: www.gillan.com/ Kris Barras Band kondigen de wereldwijde release aan van nieuw studio album 'Light It Up' Kris Barras Band Nieuwe album: Light It Up Release datum: 13 September 2019 Via Provogue Check hier de video voor 'Ignite (Light It Up): https://youtu.be/BgKf1foF0Ik Pre-order - http://smarturl.it/KBB Met de aankondiging van het nieuwe album ‘Light It Up’, blijft de Kris Barras Band razendsnel groeien. “I kinda forced myself to write songs a different way. The biggest difference for this album was that I didn’t pigeonhole myself in any way, I didn’t feel like I had to conform. I just sat down and wrote songs I wanted to write, with a sound I wanted to produce, not thinking about genre whatsoever.” ‘Light It Up’ is geproduceerd en opgenomen door Josiah J Manning van Momentum Studios in Plymouth, UK. Vanaf de openingstrack ‘What You Get’ wordt de aandacht meteen gegrepen, wanneer Kris zingt; “You want the best of me, but can’t take the rest of me, well my mama packaged me whole, if you can’t take one little mistake, I think I’d rather be alone.”

With years of touring in that capacity under their belt, a duo album became a must not just from the creative aspect, but by demand from the fans. In addition to the shows together, the pair have been co-writing songs that exhibit the magic that both of them possess as songwriters. Recorded mostly in one day last winter, Good Farmer, captures the spirit of the live show and is masterfully produced by long time Adam Carroll producer, Lloyd Maines. Starting the album is a song that was written years ago by Adam and Scott Nolan, “Hi-Fi Love”. Presented here as a duet between Chris and Adam, the song has gone to new heights and the playfulness of the lyrics seems expanded with the back and forth between the two. The first single, and title track is a co-write between the two, a celebration of all the nurturing women Chris has met throughout her life that was inspired by Errol Loudsberry’s (of “Errol’s Song” fame) top place in the hierchy of humankind, the “Good Farmer”. Further on in the album are a tribute to Chris (”Tough As Nails”) and immediate love (”Love You Already”). After meeting a fan who collected songs about women named “Louise” and claimed there are more than 250 of them, the Carroll’s decided to add one more. Adam handles the lead vocals on this one, but the song really showcases the vocal harmonies the two have mastered. “Angel In God’s Country”, co-written by Chris and Michael O’Connor, sheds a beautiful light on people that have healed from a rough life. At the end of the album is “Take Me Away”, a song that Adam wrote with John Evans nearly 20 years ago that was cut by Hayes Carll on his breakout album, Little Rock. Here it is given new life by Chris’s lead vocals and mandolin playing, accompanied on fiddle from Dennis Ludiker (Asleep At The Wheel). The Carrolls say of the album: “We had so much fun making this project and it’s been a long time coming. We’ve built up a dedicated fan base after the last few years of touring and we wanted this album to be a reflection of our live show. Lloyd Maines and Pat Manske we’re able to capture the songs in one day because we had really honed them out there on the road. Ronnie Earl believes in the power of music to heal the mind and spirit, and that’s quickly evident in the 15 tracks on his new disc. Special guests on the album include David Bromberg, acoustic guitar and vocals; Kim Wilson, harmonica and vocals; and Greg Piccolo, tenor sax. The core group of Broadcasters – Ronnie Earl, guitar; Dave Limina, Hammond B3 and piano; Diane Blue, vocals; Paul Kochanski, bass and Forrest Padgett, drums - return to present a solid follow-up to their critically acclaimed and beloved release, The Luckiest Man. They are also joined by Anthony Geraci, piano; Peter Ward, guitar; Mario Perrett, tenor sax; Scott Shetler, Baritone Sax, Larry Luisgnan, guitar; Michael Rush, bass and Scott MacDougal, guitar. “This is a band album – a community of souls with some guests, new directions and some good old down home blues with Kim Wilson, David Bromberg and Greg Piccolo,” Ronnie Earl says about the new disc. Beyond the Blue Door confirms Earl's status as one of the most soulful blues/soul/jazz guitarists working today. He’s also a DownBeat magazine winner for “Blues Album of the Year,” an Associate Professor of Guitar at Berklee College of Music and has taught at the National Guitar summer workshop in Connecticut. Perhaps David Bromberg, himself a master guitar craftsman, said it best about him: “Ronnie Earl is an incredible musician. Nog steeds zit frontman John Watts, ‘the heart and soul of the ever-evolving Fischer-Z’, vol passie en dadingsdrang, en blijft Watts ‘as pointedly literate, prolific, political and defiant as ever’. “I believe movement is life”, zegt Watts. “I want to always keep moving and growing. After all, you’re only as good as your latest stuff, and that’s what keeps me going. This is not an oldies band! I’m an artist in words and music, and I consider it a massive privilege to be still writing songs and performing these live. I feel like I am doing my best stuff as I get older, and I still have the energy and that is fantastic”. Fischer-Z vindt het nog steeds een uitdaging om hun live-publiek te trakteren op bevlogen en artistiek verantwoorde vertolkingen van de favoriete tracks uit hun inmiddels immense catalogus, maar de band is ook nog steeds hun eigen geschiedenis aan het herschrijven door nieuwe muziek te componeren. Het op 13 september te verschijnen album “Swimming In Thunderstorms” bevat enkel nieuwe songs; ‘it’s an album of now in song and spirit, with beefy, dreamy and poppy rock guitars, celestial atmospherics and arty and imaginative touches’. Fischer-Z leeft als nooit tevoren! “Swimming In Thunderstorms”- release datum: 13 september 2019
About Cars, Space And The Ramones meesterlijk is. Unieke band, geweldige plaat. Samuel L. Jackson has been cast as George Clinton in an upcoming Neil Bogart biopic, it is being reported.
Once feared that it would never see the light of day, the story of the famed disco hypeman and Casablanca Records founder, Spinning Gold, looks like it’s now going ahead. According to Deadline, a cast has been announced and Spike Lee, who was previously attached to the film, is no longer directing, after being removed from the project by Bogart’s son, Timothy Scott. The film will see Samuel L. Jackson play funk legend George Clinton, while D.L. Hughley will strap on a bass and rock out as Clinton’s funk brother Bootsy Collins. Jazmine Sullivan has been cast as a post-Motown Gladys Knight, with Kenan Thompson playing her former boss, Berry Gordy. The role of Bogart will be occupied by Broadway’s Jeremy Jordan. Spinning Gold will also feature Jay Pharoah as Frankie Crocker, the WBLS radio DJ who was indicted in the payola scandal, and Jason Derulo as Ron Isely. Produced by Laurence Mark, his resume includes Dreamgirls and, more recently, The Greatest Showman. Production is set to begin in Montreal on July 16. “When I ask people who were around my father what it was like, they inevitably say a variation of the same thing. That is, ‘I don’t know how I survived it or if I would do it again, but I had the greatest fucking time of my life’,” Bogart’s son said. “That is the compass of the movie — a story of an enormously tight-knit group that made magic happen, who believed in their dreams and made them come true.” Last year, George Clinton announced that he would be retiring from touring. “This has been coming a long time,” he said of the news. “Anyone who has been to the shows over the past couple of years has noticed that I’ve been out front less and less. “Truth be told, it’s never really been about me. It’s always been about the music and the band. That’s the real P-Funk legacy. They’ll still be funkin’ long after I stop.” Vers van de pers: The Libertines bevestigen nieuwe concertdata met daarbij een Belgische passage! Afspraak op 18 november in het Koninklijk Circus! This album will be released through Art Gates Records, distribution in Benelux will be done by Rock Inc. This band from Belgium plays symphonic metal and they are fronted by a powerfull female voice offering a pretty impressive vocal range. The songs are from a very descent level and they are easy to sing along. The band already made some waves in October 2016 when they released their debutEP 'Desert Of Enticement'. The highly anticipated instrumental album for guitar trio will be released on July 1, 2019.
Says Scott, “The music has a lot of interplay due to a busy touring schedule with bassist Romain Labaye and drummer Archibald Ligonniere. I'd say this album is a bit more harmonic than 'Vibe Station,' and the rhythm section plays a bigger role in the music. The challenge was to come up with new tones and effects I haven't used before, since like 'Vibe Station,' the songs are layered with multi guitar tracks.” “People Mover” demonstrates Scott's striking ability to combine elements of jazz, rock, funk and blues in an even more authentic, seamless and musical way than any of his previous work. Proof that after 35 years as a bandleader, Scott is a musician who's playing and composing continues to grow. From a recent interview, “My music isn't for purists, that's for sure, and I'm very thankful for my fans who are obviously open-minded and share my love for many different styles of music.” Scott Henderson's impressive work over the years as co-leader of the group TRIBAL TECH, leader of his own ground breaking trio, and sideman to some of the best jazz artists of their generation, including the great Joe Zawinul, has elevated him to the front ranks of both Jazz and Blues. He was 100 years old.
Bartholomew, a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, died Sunday in a hospital in a New Orleans suburb, his eldest son Dave Bartholomew Jr. told The Associated Press. “His body simply broke down. Daddy was 100 years and six months old. It was just that time,” his son said. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made. A trumpet player since childhood and a bandleader and arranger before World War II, Bartholomew befriended Domino in the late 1940s and collaborated with the singer-piano player on dozens of hits that captured Domino’s good-natured appeal, making him one of rock’s first stars and New Orleans a center for popular music. Throughout the 1950s and into the 1960s, virtually anyone recording in New Orleans ended up performing Bartholomew songs or working with him in the studio. “Ain’t That A Shame” (originally titled “Ain’t It a Shame”) and “I’m Walkin’” were among Domino’s many top 10 hits, with worldwide sales for Domino eventually topping 60 million records. Domino’s boogie-woogie flare and ringing triplets on piano and Bartholomew’s funky, “Big Beat” arrangements, with their second line drum rhythms and chorus of saxophone players, were so distinctive that covers of such pre-rock standards as “Blueberry Hill” and “My Blue Heaven” sounded no less original than the songs by Domino and Bartholomew. “Actually, we never sat down to write anything. He and I just played,” Bartholomew told The Times-Picayune in 2010. “I remember one time on ‘I’m in Love Again,’ we went outside and somebody said, ‘Don’t let the dog bite you.’ So we come back and put that in the song.” Bartholomew’s credits extended well beyond his work with Domino, who died in 2017. He produced the Lloyd Price hit “Lawdy Miss Clawdy.” He wrote (and originally performed) the novelty song “My Ding-a-Ling” that became Chuck Berry’s first No. 1 single in the U.S. The Bartholomew-Earl King ballad “One Night” was a hit for Smiley Lewis and (in a censored version) for Elvis Presley in the 1950s and a highlight of Presley’s 1968 “comeback” Christmas television special. British rocker Dave Edmunds had success in the early 1970s with Bartholomew-King’s “I Hear You Knocking,” while John Lennon, the Four Seasons, and Cheap Trick were among those who recorded “Ain’t That a Shame.” Bartholomew had his own hit in 1949 with the brassy “Country Boy,” and became New Orleans’ top producer and arranger through his years at Imperial Records, where artists included Domino, Frankie Ford, Chris Kenner, Huey “Piano” Smith and the duo Shirley & Lee. After his initial run with Domino, he led his own band and recorded such albums as “Dave Bartholomew and the Maryland Jazz Band” and “New Orleans Big Beat.” He also joined Domino for international tours and made appearances with Dr. John, Allen Toussaint and other New Orleans artists. Toussaint died in 2015, and Dr. John just recently passed away on June 6. The Bartholomew family’s legacy spans a century, from son Don Bartholomew’s work with Lil Wayne and other hip-hop artists back to Dave Bartholomew’s ties to Louis Armstrong and the birth of jazz. Born in Edgard, Louisiana, in 1918 and a resident of New Orleans since the 1930s, Bartholomew learned the trumpet from Peter Davis, who had mentored Armstrong. He was playing riverboat gigs in his teens, leading bands in his early 20s and developed his writing and arranging skills while with the 196th Army Ground Forces Band during World War II. After returning home, he put together his own group, which featured such prominent sidemen as drummer Earl Palmer and saxophonist Lee Allen. The partnership between the detail-minded Bartholomew, who called himself a “slave driver” in his quest for the right sound, and the more easygoing Domino took time to fully catch on. After a million-selling collaboration in 1949 with “The Fat Man,” a reworking of “Junker’s Blues” - often cited as one of the earliest rock records, the two drifted apart when Bartholomew briefly left Imperial. But they had a handful of minor hits and rebounded fully in the mid-1950s with “Ain’t That a Shame,” a crossover smash as the rock era was taking off, although briefly obscured by Pat Boone’s bland cover version. In 1956-57 alone, Domino had 17 songs in Billboard’s top 100 and he remained popular until the Beatles’ arrival in the mid-1960s. Bartholomew and Domino had a long hiatus in the 1980s and ’90s before performing together in 1999 at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. In 2014, they attended a premier in New Orleans of a documentary about their work, Joe Lauro’s “The Big Beat.” During a question and answer session after the film, Domino was reluctant to speak, so Bartholomew stepped in. “You know, Fats,” he said, putting an arm around his friend. “We have been blessed.” The urban-jazz artist tops three national charts with the title track to his forthcoming album.
DENVER (21 June 2019): R&B-jazz guitarist Gregory Goodloe is typically lowkey and chill, but he was especially humbled when he received the call that his single, “Stylin’,” went No. 1 on the Billboard singles chart. The song, written and produced by hitmaker Darren Rahn and showcasing Goodloe’s electric jazz guitar bravura, serves as the title track to the guitarist’s upcoming album, due this fall. Goodloe’s sound straddles jazz straight-ahead and contemporary, jacked with a swig of hip hop swagger. Packaged with Rahn’s glossy pop sensibilities and a soul-powered R&B groove laid down by an agile rhythm section - bassist Mel Brown, drummer Tarrell Martin and wah guitarist Allen Hinds - the winning combo sent “Stylin’” to the top of the Billboard chart, Goodloe’s first. It also topped the Mediabase and Smooth Jazz Top 20 charts. “In today’s modern world and culture, I wanted to bridge the gap between the standard jazz flow of Wes Montgomery, the smooth flow of George Benson and the hip hop culture of Jay-Z. ‘Stylin’’ is a means of expression in today’s music and culture,” said Goodloe. “Going number one is a dream come true, an unexpected blessing of God’s grace and very encouraging.” Goodloe is working with Rahn to finish the album. “I nicknamed Darren ‘Dr. D’ because when he and I go into the lab (studio), it’s total chemistry between us.” While Goodloe plans to ride the hot “Stylin’” single well into the peak of summer, he’s got something planned to cool things down before the album drops. He wrote “Cool Like That” with soul-jazz icon Bob Baldwin, which will be the next single. “‘Cool Like That’ captures the true essence of soul-jazz in a cool, laidback style,” said Goodloe, who gigs a couple times a month in the Denver area, his hometown. As an accompanist, Goodloe has flanked an interesting mix of R&B, jazz and gospel greats spanning R&B crooner Howard Hewett, soul balladeers Surface, R&B heartthrob Tank and original Earth, Wind & Fire keyboardist Larry Dunn; smooth/contemporary jazz luminaries Dave Koz, Brian Culbertson, Norman Brown and Ben Tankard; and non-secular giants Shirley Caesar, John P. Key, The Rance Allen Group and Angela Spivey. He’s also served as music director for soul-jazz chanteuse Aysha. A self-taught musician and a US Army veteran, Goodloe wrote, produced and played all the instruments except for a couple of keyboard parts on a 2010 demo collection titled “It’s All Good” in order to introduce himself as a solo artist. He didn’t pursue airplay until 2016 with the Rahn penned and produced single, “All The Way,” which earned most added status on the Billboard chart. Goodloe and Rahn reteamed the following year for another radio single, “Get’n It,” which featured the same musicians who play on “Stylin’.” Along with earning most added honors, the cut rose to No. 5 on the Billboard New & Active chart. Both singles appear on Goodloe’s “Get’n It” album (2017). For additional information, please visit http://gregorygoodloe.com.
