In de Verenigde Staten is naar nu bekend is geworden vrijdag Elliot Roberts overleden. Hij was de manager van grote sterren als Neil Young, Crosby, Stills & Nash en Joni Mitchell. Roberts was bevriend met tycoon David Geffen; samen worden zij gezien als de stuwende kracht achter de roemruchte rockscene in Californië in de jaren 60 en 70.

Roberts was in 1971 met Geffen mede-oprichter van het platenlabel Asylum Records waar ook artiesten onder contract stonden als Jackson Brown, Linda Ronstadt en The Eagles. Later sloot ook Bob Dylan zich aan bij Asylum Records.

Neil Young, die bekendstaat om zijn vele en soms hooglopende ruzies met platenbonzen, liet sinds 1967 zijn zaken behartigen door Roberts. Hij schrijft in een verklaring op zijn website dat Roberts "de beste manager aller tijden" was.
Roberts was verder de man achter tal van andere succesvolle artiesten als Yes, Talking Heads, Devo, Morissey, Tracy Chapman en Tom Petty. Hij is 76 jaar geworden. (Bron: NOS)

Proving to be in a league of her own, edgy pop-country artist Jaclyn Kenyon continues to outshine her past accomplishments with the release of her brand new single When We Love. The high-energy lead single from her forthcoming full-length album highlights the ups and downs of a relationship.
 
“The inspiration came from wanting to write a song that displayed love in a non-fairytale type of light,” said Kenyon. “When We Love is a realistic love song in that it says love hurts, love is hard work, but at the end of the day love will never give up.”
 
Co-written by Kenyon with multi-platinum music producer and songwriter Mike Krompass (Smashmouth) and Steve Diamond (Faith Hill, Reba McEntire), the single is available on Apple Music, Spotify and all digital retailers today (Friday, June 21 2019).
 
The single marks Kenyon’s first release since signing an exclusive global distribution deal with Sony Orchard, along with Soundly Music Nashville. ​Na een ontroerend eerbetoon aan zijn geboortestad in 'Oostende Bonsoir', onthult Arno de titeltrack van zijn gloednieuwe album 'Santeboutique', dat uitkomt op 13 september. 

Artiesten die hun zeventigste verjaardag vieren doen dat meestal door gezapig achterom te kijken. Maar Arno is geen doorsnee artiest, en dus brengt hij gewoon een nieuwe cd uit. Zijn 13e solo album al. 

Santeboutique -vrij vertaald: een verzameling met alles erop en eraan- dekt de lading helemaal. Door zijn veelzijdigheid, uiteraard. Want er is niemand die blues, chanson, rock en funk op zo’n unieke manier met elkaar versmelt. En toch slaagt Arno nog steeds in te verrassen. Die stem blijft uiteraard herkenbaar uit de duizenden. Ruw en rauw als schuurpapier, tegelijk teder en vol mededogen. Arno is cool en kwetsbaar tegelijk. 

Op Santeboutique -geproducet door John Parrish- observeert Arno in zijn geheel eigen stijl opnieuw de wereld. Een European Cowboy. Maar net zo goed een Lonesome Zorro. Een chanteur de charme, zoals hij het zelf zegt.

Arno vierde zijn verjaardag met enkele memorabele concerten in zijn geboortestad Oostende, en een (eveneens uitverkochte) Radio1 sessie in het OLT  op 24 juni.. 
Het nieuwe album stelt live voor in de Ancienne Belgique op 23 en 24 januari. Die concerten zijn al uitverkocht, maar 25 januari is er een 3e concert toegevoegd!

Gitarist Julien Tassin werkt aan nieuwe - solo - jazz en blues geinspirerde composities die dit najaar het licht gaan zien op het album 'Momentum' (via Igloo). In afwachting daarvan is er deze vooruitgeschoven single !

Geïnspireerd door het leven, zijn eigen ervaring, de mensen die hij heeft ontmoet, de muziek waar hij naar luistert, schrijft en componeert Julien Tassin in Brussel -zijn nieuwe thuisstad- dit repertoire op en voor elektrische gitaar. De gitarist, geboren te Charleroi, verkent de oneindige mogelijkheden van zijn instrument en gaat op zoek naar onbekende territoria. Zijn composities zijn ruimtelijk, etherisch, grenzeloos, en dompelen je onder in een in een betoverende atmosfeer.

Over Electricity zegt hij:
"het is het sluitstuk van het nieuwe album. Het nummer verwijst naar de stad, allemaal hebben ze iets fascinerends. Wat ik het leukst vind aan de stad is de sereniteit die in het midden van de drukte te vinden is. De stad is per definitie elektrisch in elke zin van het woord, zo ook mijn instrument, een elektrische gitaar spreekt ook op een heel bijzondere manier, en net dat wou ik echt via dit soloalbum uitdrukken. "

In de zomer van 2016 zag “Birkin/Gainsbourg Le Symphonique” het levenslicht onder invloed van het Symfonisch Orkest van Montréal en de Francofolies de Montréal. Oorspronkelijk ging het om twee unieke voorstellingen ter herdenking van het overlijden van Serge Gainsbourg, 25 jaar geleden. Maar nu trekt de show dus nog tot maart 2020 de wereld rond!
Jane Birkin bracht haar grootste hits met bijzondere arrangementen van Nobuyuki Nakajima, en omringd door de beste orkesten ter wereld. Als een artistieke uitbreiding van dit avontuur, geeft ze nu de inwoners van steden en regio’s waar ze niet met een symfonisch orkest kan aantreden, de kans om deze ‘klassieke’ herwerking van het oeuvre van Serge Gainsbourg live te ontdekken. Met Nobuyuki zelf aan de piano en vergezeld van zeven andere muzikanten, staat Jane Birkin op donderdag 20 februari op de planken van het Koninklijk Circus in Brussel, om er haar repertoire als kamerorkest voor te stellen. De Deens-Amerikaanse hard rockers van Volbeat zijn populairder dan ooit. Het concert in Lotto Arena was in een mum van tijd uitverkocht. De vraag naar tickets bleef groot. Vandaag kondigt de band aan dat het concert voorzien in de Lotto Arena op donderdag 21 november verplaatst wordt naar een grotere zaal. Deze zaalwijziging betekent ook een wijziging van datum. Volbeat staat op maandag 4 november in het Antwerps Sportpaleis voor wat hun grootste indoorshow in België ooit wordt. Tickets voor dit nieuwe concert gaan onmiddellijk in verkoop.
 
Het nieuws volgt op de eerdere aankondiging van de 'REWIND, REPLAY, REBOUND' wereldtour en het nieuwe album 'REWIND, REPLAY, REBOUND' dat vanaf 2 augustus verkrijgbaar is. De verwachtingen staan hooggespannen na de #1 chartnotering van voorganger 'Seal The Deal & Let's Boogie' in o.a. België, Duitsland, Zweden, Denemarken, en Finland uit 2016.
 
Volbeat staat gekend om zijn geheel eigen en herkenbare sound van psychobilly en punk getinte rock ‘n’ roll. De band is een graag geziene gast op Graspop Metal Meeting en Rock Werchter. Hun laatste indoor passage in België vond plaats in een tot de nok gevulde Vorst Nationaal in november 2016. Global megastar Ed Sheeran has unveiled the official tracklisting for his ‘No.6 Collaborations Project’, confirmed for release on 12 July via Asylum/Atlantic. The 15-track LP, that includes 22 collaborators, will feature an all-star cast of Sheeran’s favourite artists including Cardi B, Camila Cabello, Khalid, Eminem, Travis Scott, Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Stormzy and many more! Jazz Middelheim heeft deze ochtend de twee laatste headliners van zijn 50ste editie bekendgemaakt. Op donderdag 15 augustus sluit saxofonist Pharoah Sanders het hoofdpodium af samen met vier andere Afro-Amerikaanse jazzlegendes, op zaterdag 17 augustus verrast het festival met de beloftevolle Californische electrofunk- en jazzpopartiest Louis Cole. Die laatste komt er op voordracht van BeraadGeslagen (Lander Gyselinck en Fulco Ottervanger), dat het programma van zaterdag cureert.Jazz Middelheim heeft het vandaag bij de bekendmaking van Louis Cole over "de bijzonderste headliner uit de vijftigjarige geschiedenis van Jazz Middelheim" en dat wil na de passage van bijvoorbeeld de hiphoppers van Black Star vorig jaar wat zeggen. Cole is van oorsprong een drummer, maar speelt ook onder meer keyboard en is bekend als de helft van jazzfunkproject Knower. Hij maakt ook populaire "live session" YouTube videos, stond in het voorprogramma van rockband Red Hot Chili Peppers, werkte samen met heel wat topmuzikanten en wordt lof toegeworpen door onder meer Quincy Jones. Op Jazz Middelheim krijgt hij versterking van een heuse big band.

De 78-jarige Pharoah Sanders is van een heel andere generatie dan prille dertiger Cole en vertoefde tijdens zijn lange carrière vooral in de schaduw van de legendarische John Coltrane. In zijn avant-gardejazz combineert hij zowel de energie van Coltrane als Marokkaanse grooves en stampende R&B. Op Jazz Middelheim brengt hij David Murray, Saul Williams, Ambrose Akinmusire en Idris Ackamoor mee. Die laatste staat ook nog eens op het podium met zijn band The Pyramids.

Jazz Middelheim maakte tot slot nog twee extra namen voor zaterdag bekend: het Brusselse viertal Bombataz en jazzcombo Linus + Økland/Van Heertum/Zach. De eerder bekendgemaakte headliners zijn Enrico Rava (vrijdag) en een eerbetoon aan Toots Thielemans door Gregoire Maret en Kenny Werner.

​Always Be My Maybe is dé zomerfilm van Netflix, met in de hoofdrollen Ali Wong & Randall Park. Én met een geniale cameo van Keanu Reeves die meteen viraal ging op social media. De film loopt in de USA in bioscoopzalen en is wereldwijd beschikbaar via het Netflix-platform.

De film heeft een ijzersterke soundtrack, met o.a. tracks van Mariah Carey, David Bowie, Alicia Keys, en Ludacris. En daarop dus ook Couleurs, een track uit Buscemi’s album In Situ (2011), met lyrics en vocals van Viktor Lazlo.

Buscemi’s muziek uit In Situ wordt erg gesmaakt voor synchronisaties. De tracks werden eerder al gebruikt in EA Games FIFA, de serie House Of Lies, een internationale commercial van Royal Caribbean, etc…

Buscemi heeft ook dit jaar weer een drukke festivalzomer, met concerten op o.a. Afro-Latino en Polé Polé. Zijn nieuwste single ‘Mi Andalucia’ werd al meer dan 100.000 keer gestreamd  en wordt op dit moment geplugd bij de radio's in Griekenland.

Buscemi had in Griekeland eerder dit jaar nog een radiohit met zijn single Luna Misteriosa. De track stond meer dan 3 maanden in de indie charts. Luna Misteriosa werd ook geselecteerd voor de Buddha Bar Summer Of Love compilatie, die weldra wereldwijd in de winkelrekken zal liggen.

Fun Lovin' Criminals, Kid Creole, Michael Franti en De La Soul zijn de internationale toppers die deze zomer in Leuven gratis te zien zijn tijdens een reeks concerten in de binnenstad in het kader van de vijfde editie van 'Het Groot Verlof'. Ook de Belgische top is goed vertegenwoordigd met namen zoals The Van Jets, CPeX, De Mens, Lady Linn, Bent Van Looy, Warhola en Discobar Galaxie.

​Het 'Groot Verlof' overspant de periode van 12 juli tot 11 augustus met op de vrijdagavonden 12, 19 en 26 juli de traditionele Beleuvenissen met gratis concerten op enkele pleinen. Van 1 tot en met 4 augustus is er het M-idzomerfestival in museum M. Dat weekend is er op vrijdag 2 augustus 'Leive Vloms' op de Oude Markt en op zondag 4 augustus Hapje Tapje. Cinema Zed organiseert van 13 juli tot en met 10 augustus acht openluchtfilms. Op 3 augustus is er het jongerenfestival Habitat en het geheel wordt in het weekend van 9, 10 augustus afgesloten met het dansfestival Half Oogst.

Naast deze grote evenementen worden er in Leuven van 21 juni tot en met 21 september onder het motto "Klein Geluk" tevens een 40-tal meer kleinschalige activiteiten op touw gezet. Een eerste activiteit is Boek Lokal op 23 juni in museum M met enkele grote literaire namen zoals Valeria Luiselli en Bart Van Loo. Het Klein Geluk omvat voorts beiaardconcerten, concerten in de Sint-Pieterskerk in het kader van de Zomer van Sint-Pieter, orgelconcerten in de Kapel van de Romaanse Poort en dergelijke.

Cigarettes After Sex is klaar voor een terugkeer, met een nieuw album dat hij ons op 7 november live komt voorstellen in het Koninklijk Circus!
 
Als fan van Miles Davis, Françoise Hardy, Cocteau Twins en Mazzy Star, brengt Cigarettes After Sex in 2012 een eerste EP uit. En het was meteen raak! Single “Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby” heeft alles in huis om een klassieker te worden: een daverend ritme, romantische en dreigende arrangementen, en vooral de bezwerende stem van Greg Gonzales. Cigarettes After Sex schopt het pijlsnel tot internationale revelatie en brengt in 2015 met “Affliction” en “Keep On Loving You” twee nieuwe juweeltjes uit, een jaar later gevolgd door het magnifieke “K”. Stuk voor stuk grootse songs die zich diep in je ziel nestelen. Sinds eind vorig jaar is Gonzales terug aan het werk, met een felgesmaakte cover van “Neon Moon” van countryduo Brooks & Dunn. Bij zanger en gitarist Dave Mustaine van de Amerikaanse heavymetalgroep Megadeth is keelkanker vastgesteld, zo hebben meerdere muziekwebsites op gezag van zijn Facebookpagina gemeld.Geboren op 13 september 1961 blijkt Mustaine keelkanker te hebben. "Ik ben gediagnosticeerd met keelkanker. Het is duidelijk iets waarmee rekening dient gehouden en onder ogen te zien - Maar ik heb eerder al obstakels onder ogen gezien", zegt de muzikant, wellicht refererend naar zijn drugsverleden en het feit dat hij met zware mentale gevolgen op 11 april 1983 uit Metallica was gezet. Na Metallica zette de zanger/gitarist Megadeth op, maar die bleef altijd in de schaduw van de mega-band.

Mustaine zegt reeds behandeling te ondergaan en dat zijn dokters aanvoelen dat die negentig procent slaagkans heeft.

Een en ander betekent ook dat Megadeth een reeks shows van dit jaar moet afgelasten. De 2019 Megacruise blijft evenwel op de agenda.

Megadeth zat de afgelopen maanden in de studio om een opvolger voor het drie jaar oude "Dystopia" op te nemen. Terwijl Dave Mustaine zijn behandeling ondergaat, gaat het werk aan het nieuwe album gewoon door, aldus metalfan.nl.

Crammerock lost vandaag in één keer 12 nieuwe namen. Dit keer trekt het festival een blik dansbare acts open. OT en Tessa Dixson komen hun frisse elektropop spelen op Crammerock. Potige hiphop zal er wezen met Ronnie Flex & Deuxperience, Ares, Frenna, Yung Felix, The Blockparty, Leafs, Yung Mavu, Woodie Smalls, Black Mamba en K1D. Intussen draait de ticketverkoop voor 6 en 7 september op volle toeren.

 
 
Crammerock heeft al 20 jaar een goed ontwikkeld zintuig voor wat er leeft in de hiphopscene. Anno 2019 halen de programmatoren van het festival weer het hipste uit de wereld van rhymes en beats naar Stekene, zowel uit binnen- als buitenland.
 
Vanuit Nederland komt een buslading hiphoppers naar Crammerock. Te beginnen met Ronnie Flex & Deuxperience. “De popact waar jongeren naar snakken”, zo omschreef De Morgen hem eind vorig jaar na zijn zinderende doortocht in de AB.

Wie Ronnie Flex zegt, denkt dankzij de hit “Drank & drugs” spontaan aan Lil’ Kleine, die eerder al bevestigde dat hij naar Crammerock komt. Met diezelfde Lil’ Kleine verbrak Frenna vorig jaar het Nederlandse Spotify-record: hun single “Verleden tijd” (een herwerking van de klassieker “Onderweg” van Abel) behaalde net geen miljoen streams in de eerste 24 uur na uitgave. 

 
Nog Nederlands 
Leafs is de jongste artiest ooit op het Nederlandse Noah’s Ark label waar ook Kraantje Pappie zijn thuis vindt, en maakte vorige zomer indruk op Woo Hah! en Pukkelpop. Yung Felix is de populairste hiphop-producer van de lage landen: hits als “Loco”, “Vroom” en “Ja” beloven een stevig feestje.

De voorlaatste in het rijtje Nederlandse rappers dat naar Crammerock komt is Ares. Ook Toen Rens Ottema, zoals Ares bij de burgerlijke stand bekend staat, als piepjong jochie begon te rappen, geloofde niemand geloofde dat hij het zou maken, behalve hijzelf. Nu, 10 jaar later, is de 23-jarige rapper een grote jongen in hiphopland Nederland.

En de laatste Nederlanders in het rijtje zijn de kerels van The Blockparty. Met "Huts" scoorden ze eind vorig jaar een dikke hit, mede door de veelbesproken clip.

 
Homies
Crammerock lost ook vier vette hiphopnamen van Belgische bodem. Locals Black Mamba, K1D en Woodie Smalls komen wel van heel dichtbij, vanuit Sint-Niklaas, om een zinderende thuismatch te spelen in het naburige Stekene.

Daarnaast heeft Crammerock ook Yung Mavu kunnen strikken, de rapper die twee jaar geleden een monsterhit scoorde op YouTube (meer dan 23 miljoen views!) met “Black magic”, zijn spitsvondige hiphop-ode aan Harry Potter.

 
Elektropop
Naast een flinke dosis hiphop heeft Crammerock ook oor voor elektropop uit eigen land, en wel met de feeërieke muziek van OT (Olivia Trappenier) en Tessa Dixson. Beide meiden werden de afgelopen jaren opgemerkt in The Voice: Trappenier als poulain van Bent Van Looy in The Voice van Vlaanderen en Dixson in de Waalse tegenhanger van de talentenjacht.
 
Trappenier werd later de allereerste Rising Star van radiozender MNM en nam samen met Regi de hit “You have a heart” op. Eind vorig jaar bracht “Where is my love”, haar eerste single onder eigen naam, uit. De Brusselse Tessa Dixson schopte het na haar deelname aan de Waalse versie van The Voice ook al een heel eind en werkte al snel samen met o.a. Roméo Elvis.

Door de toevoeging van deze nieuwe namen zijn intussen 23 namen bekend voor de 29ste editie van Crammerock. De komende weken zal het festival nog een reeks namen droppen, want ook dit jaar komen er weer zo’n 50 top-acts uit de rock, pop, dance, elektro en hiphop naar het tweedaagse festival in Stekene.

Wie er op vrijdag 6 en zaterdag 7 september bij wil wil zijn, wacht best niet te lang met het kopen van zijn tickets. De afgelopen acht jaren was Crammerock namelijk helemaal uitverkocht en de ticketverkoop draait op dit moment op volle toeren.

 
Crammerock is een tweedaags, complexloos muziekfestival tijdens het eerste weekend van september in Stekene, tussen Antwerpen en Gent. Jaarlijks passeren meer dan vijftig bands op de drie podia, die garant staan voor non-stop muziek uit alle genres. Dankzij een uitmuntend collectief aan vrijwilligers weet het festival zich te onderscheiden met lage ticketprijzen en een opvallend ongedwongen sfeer. De vorige editie klokte het festival af op 35.000 bezoekers. Door zijn impact op het milieu zoveel mogelijk te beperken won het festival al verschillende awards.

A post office in South Los Angeles has been renamed in honor of R&B legend Marvin Gaye.

The new Marvin Gaye Post Office is on Vermont Avenue, just across from the University of Southern California.

The U.S. Postal Service also issued a stamp in his honor back in April.

The Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter - who was nicknamed the "Prince of Motown" - skyrocketed to fame with hits like "What's Going On", "Let's Get It On", "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" and "Heard It Through the Grapevine."

Gaye was shot and killed by his father after intervening in a fight between his parents in 1984.

​Grandmaster Flash has become the first DJ to win the Polar Music Prize, often dubbed the "Nobel Prize For Music".
The prize was founded by Stig Anderson, better known as ABBA's lyricist and manager, in 1989. Previous winners include Led Zeppelin, BB King, Metallica, and Paul McCartney.
Flash, real name Joseph Saddler, accepted the prize from the King of Sweden, saying the award was "in honor of every DJ, every rapper, every graffiti artist, and every breakdancer".
He further commented: "This thing that I did had not existed before, and I am one of many where I come from. It ended up being called hip-hop, taking the drum break from pop, rock, jazz, blues, funk, disco, R+B, and using duplicate copies of records. I would take one section and repeat it over and over again."

Pauwel De Meyer: boomhutbouwer, kabouterliefhebber en husky-enthousiast, tekstschrijver en liedjesmaker werkt momenteel aan nieuw materiaal. Pauwel bracht reeds plaatjes uit op het befaamde Rough Trade label en het Antwerpse Starman Records. Hij speelde op podia als AB, Vooruit, Arenberg, Roma,... en toerde door Europa als voorprogramma van Devendra Banhart en Fences. Daarnaast verzorgde hij een indrukwekkende lijst aan support-acts voor o.a. Christopher Owens, Grant Hart, The Veils, Vetiver,  Scott Matthew, Ian McCulloch, Mauro Pawlowski.
Onlangs werd hij 30 en herdoopte zijn muzikale alter-ego tot Pauwel en brengt nu onder die noemer zijn eerst single“Witches” uit. Zijn vorig album “Having Fun” werd opgepikt door  Radio 1.

With an international reputation as the definitive musicians' musician, British musician Eddie Jobson has been recognized as a musical genius since childhood. As a piano and violin prodigy, he was awarded a Diploma of Distinction by London's Royal Academy of Music at the age of 8, performing with his first professional orchestra at age 10. In 1971, at age 16, he was appointed as the Young Persons' Representative to the British Government's Arts Council and, the same year, performed his debut concert at the University of Newcastle—one of the first live concerts to feature the electronic music synthesizer. By age 17 he had acquired a worldwide record deal with Warner Bros. to record his first full album, playing violin, synthesizer and piano.
 
Transitioning away from classical music and still only 17, he became orchestrator for British singer Bryan Ferry, leading to Jobson becoming a full member of the influential art-rock group Roxy Music, contributing to their first number-one album as synthesist and groundbreaking electric-violinist. Eddie's proficiency in re-sculpting and professionalizing the Roxy sound played a major role in the band's success and their considerable influence on the likes of U2, The Talking Heads and many of the '80s new wave rock/pop groups. Jobson's early pioneering work as a teen, along with the other Roxy members, has resulted in his 2019 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, making Jobson the first rock violinist to be so honored.
 
Remaining in the rock and jazz world after Roxy, Eddie—still only 21—was “discovered” by American  music icon Frank Zappa and flown to Los Angeles to replace both jazz greats George Duke on keyboards and Jean-Luc Ponty on violin, in Zappa's only four-piece lineup. Returning to England in 1978 after several albums and world concert tours with Zappa, Jobson then formed the internationally acclaimed progressive-fusion band UK with jazz-guitar legend Allan Holdsworth, King Crimson vocalist John Wetton, and original Yes drummer Bill Bruford. The UK albums, along with his other  work with King Crimson, Yes, Jethro Tull and with members of Deep Purple and The Who, established Jobson not only as, arguably, the top rock violinist in the world, but also as one of the top keyboardists.
 
In the 1980s, Eddie put rock music and concert touring aside and focused on electronic music and the innovative world of computer music. He created the first music video to feature CGI, as well as the world's first album performed entirely on the Synclavier Music Computer. Featured in TIME magazine, this critically acclaimed album was one of the very first all-digital CD releases. The 1990s saw Jobson move into the world of television and film scoring—an award-winning side career that culminated in him becoming choral director for Disney on two major movies and the soundtrack composer on numerous films, TV shows and 3D theme-park experiences. Fascinated with all musical forms, he left the world of Hollywood in 2000 and formed a musicians' label called Globe Music as a vehicle for producing a diverse array of jazz and world-music artists. This period also saw Eddie working with the Tuvan throat singers, and composing for and conducting both the City of Prague Philharmonic and The Bulgarian Women's Choir, while also functioning as the choir's spokesperson at Harvard University and on multiple classical radio broadcasts.
 
An unexpected return to the concert stage in 2008, saw Jobson perform to a festival audience of more than 150,000 people in Kazan, Russia, leading to ten more years of world tours until his permanent retirement from live concerts in 2018. In 2017, Jobson received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Progressive Music Awards in London.
 
Five new double-CD releases are being planned to commemorate Jobson's almost fifty years as one of the world's most respected musicians. Eddie is also currently producing six video lectures on The Art and Science of Music.

​Canadian Gypsy Blues duo Blue Moon Marquee announce the release of their new CD, Bare Knuckles & Brawn, on their own Blue Moon Marquee Music label, coming out June 28 in Canada and July 19 in the USA.  Recorded at Afterlife Studios.in Vancouver, British Columbia, and produced by the band and Erik Nielsen, the new disc’s 11 all-original tracks showcase the talents of A.W. Cardinal (vocals and guitar) and Jasmine Colette (bass/vocals), along with guests Darcy Phillips (piano/organ); Gerry Cook (sax/clarinet); Jimmy “Hollywood” Badger (drums); Jack Garton (trumpet); and Paul Pigat (guitar).
 
“This album to me represents a combination and evolution of our last records,” A.W. Cardinal says about Bare Knuckles & Brawn. “It is a fine example of what we sound like with a larger ensemble. The sound is a mixture of swing styles of music like blues and jazz, western swing and New Orleans. Think Django Reinhardt/Charlie Christian meets Tom Waits. I believe this album features some of our best recorded work and we were able to do it with some of the best possible musicians.” 
 
“We recorded this album in three days,” adds Jasmine Colette. “I like all the grit and pulp with my music, so the warm sound of the tape made it come together. All songs were written A.W. Cardinal and me in the last year of our travels, in relation to the air of the times, characters we meet, cities we walk in and the weather we feel.”

A little something about a few of the tunes:
“Big Black Mamba” - was inspired by the Native legend of the big black snake we pull from the ground (oil); “Hard Times Hit Parade”- about the greed of the coin and trying to survive in the wealth gap; “Lost and Wild” - sixties scoop; “Big Smoke” – a song about climate change; “As I Lay Dying” - deals with feminism and the fall of Patriarchy; “52nd St. Strut” - for the love of Billie Holiday; “High Noon” - is a reference to Black Elk, a holy man of the Oglala Lakota people and the perseverance of Native Peoples. 
 
Blue Moon Marquee currently makes their home in an island shack on the coast of the Salish Sea in British Columbia. A.W. Cardinal and Jasmine Colette (a.k.a. “Badlands Jass”) write and perform original compositions influenced by anything that swings, jumps or grooves. Influenced by early blues, swing, jazz and ragtime, artists such as Lonnie Johnson, Louis Armstrong, Blind Willie Jonson, Charley Patton, Howlin' Wolf, Screaming Jay Hawkins, Tom Waits, Memphis Minnie, and Django Reinhardt are deeply infused in the soul of their music.
 
Bare Knuckles & Brawn is good representation of what they sound like with a larger ensemble. It is a mixture of blues, jazz, swing and New Orleans. Think Django Reinhardt and Charlie Christian meet Tom Waits. All tracks were recorded to 2-inch tape using vintage RCA microphones that give their sound its warm tone.
 
On live performances, the Blue Moon Marquee duo plays with the energy and sound of a full band. Jasmine Colette, the rhythm section, not only commands the upright bass, but also brings the swing with her feet on the kick drum, snare and high hat, all while singing harmonies. A.W. Cardinal is of the screaming and hollering blues tradition, with distinctive thick and smoky vocals that barrel out like a raging bull. His guitar crackles with the swinging energy of jazz-tinged blues.
 
Touring throughout Canada, Europe and the USA for the last 5 years, Blue Moon Marquee just returned from their fifth European Tour, playing major Blues festivals in Belgium and Holland. Spanish Label FOLC Records are releasing the album in Europe.
 
Appreciated for their authenticity, Blue Moon Marquee was nominated for Canada’s Maple Blues Award as “best new artist of the year” in 2016. The duo was also the most-requested band for the 2016 and 2017 TD International Jazz Festival circuit across Canada and nominated for Indigenous Artist of the Year (2017), presented by Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN). Their songs have a heavy dose of atmosphere and texture with a penchant for poetic characters and gritty settings. It is this connection to the working class that draws so many people to their music, crossing many of the usual genre, age and cultural bounds. Most importantly, they make every song their own. De aantrekkingskracht van een nostalgisch gevoel en de hunker naar de jaren vijftig en zestig slaat aan bij jongeren, gezinnen en actieve 50-plussers. Op die doelgroep mikt Retro Sur Mer. Het grootste, gratis retrofestival slaat voor de 3de keer z'n tenten op in Wenduine, De Haan. Van vrijdag 26 tot zondag 28 juli word je rond De Rotonde meegezogen in een unieke retrobeleving. Radar Events organisator Ben Mouling: “Vorig jaar hadden we 30.000 enthousiaste bezoekers en die willen we opnieuw bereiken met een versterkte formule. Op de dijk pakken we uit met oldtimers, een Beauty Boudoir die wordt gehost door onze Modernettes en de Barber Shop van barbier Tom. Zaterdag en zondag worden nog interessanter, want naast de glimmende oldtimers houden we dan een moto- en scootermeeting. We hebben ook replica’s van wagens uit de tv-serie "The Dukes of Hazard” én oldtimers op afstandsbediening. Voor de kids is er animatie en onze retro kermis. In en om het Wielingencentrum kan je terecht voor onze Retro en Vintage Market, een must-visit voor wie zoekt naar unieke retrospulletjes.” 

Miss & Mister Retro Sur Mer

Wie volgt de Lintse Jennifer Loos op en wordt de nieuwe Miss Retro Sur Mer 2019? Vrouwen die houden van retro kunnen zich inschrijven via de Facebookpagina van het festival en vanaf dit jaar geeft de organisatie ook de kans aan mannen, en wordt er ook gezocht naar de eerste Mister Retro Sur Mer. Mannen die houden van vintage en retro moeten zich zeker aanmelden. Op basis van de ingezonden foto’s en likes worden de finalisten bepaald.


Guy De Pré

Een belangrijk aspect van de totaalbeleving is de muziek. “Drie dagen bieden wij de beste retro classics aan, met op vrijdag het Sjock festival. Op zaterdag is het de beurt aan Radio Modern en houden we een Fifties Party en op zondag sluiten we af met Rockabillyday Belgium. We zijn bijzonder trots dat we Radio 2-presentator Guy De Pré konden strikken. In juli en augustus onderbreekt hij zijn ‘De Pré Historie’ en ruilt hij de radiostudio’s voor ons podium. Op zaterdag speelt hij muziek en zondag aanschouwt hij de glimmende oltimers, en voorziet hij hun doortocht op de dijk van de nodige tekst en uitleg. Wie Guy kent, weet dat hij naast begenadigd radiomaker-dj ook een gepassioneerd autoliefhebber is.”
