Female Blues Duo Soulful Femme Release First Full-Length Album Featuring Joanna Connor, Bernard Allison
What happens when you combine a classically trained voice coach and vocal dynamo with a three-time Best Blues Guitarist Award winner, both with extensive studio and performing histories? The answer is simple: You get Soulful Femme. The pairing of Stevee Wellons (vocals) and Cheryl Rinovato(guitars) first performed together for a blues challenge competition (which they won!) Now, after two successful single releases, the Pittsburgh-based blues, funk, jazz duo are releasing their first full-length project.
Soulful Femme recently released a 12-track album, “It Is Well With My Soul.” Guests on the album include renowned blues guitarist and son of Luther, Bernard Allison; blues singer and virtuosa guitarist, Joanna Connor; and singer-songwriter, Mark Byars.
Vocalist Stephanie Wellons, aka Stevee Wellons, has been performing in the tri-state area for the last 25 years and is known for her high-energy stage presence and performance. Stevee has performed with numerous area bands and currently teaches and coaches voice at numerous CCAC college campuses in the area. Formerly, she taught at the prestigious Afro-American Institute (AAMI), in the Homewood Area of Pittsburgh. An experienced recording artist as well, Stevee has recorded in Pittsburgh, New York, Chicago and Baltimore. Stevee Wellons Band won the 2015 Blues Society of Western PA’s Blues Challenge and represented Western PA at the 2016 International Blues Challenge.
Studying Applied Music with a 2nd major in Arranging and Composition at famed Berklee College of Music, Cheryl Rinovato began her musical career as a studio musician throughout New England. Since moving to Pittsburgh, Cheryl has pursued her musical career as a professional musician for numerous area bands and has done extensive studio work. Cheryl has also been the recipient of the prestigious Jim Weber Award, given to blues guitarist of the year, three times; in 2012, 2013 and 2015. She is a Delaney (out of Austin, TX) endorsed guitarist with 2 signature guitar models.
Stevee and Cheryl have performed with: Shemekia Copeland, Ana Popovic, Samantha Fish, Tas Cru, Miller & the Other Sinners, Joann Shaw Taylor, Tommy Castro and Mike Zito.
Producer Martin Hannett was one of the most groundbreaking and prolific producers of his era, responsible for revolutionary albums and singles from bands like Buzzcocks, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, A Certain Ratio, Happy Mondays, and one of the most important post-punk bands in history, Joy Division. Hannett became virtually synonymous with the latter, having spent countless hours recording the quartet - Ian Curtis, Peter Hook, Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris - from their breakthrough debut 1979 album Unknown Pleasures right up through to the very last single they would release as a band, the iconic “Love Will Tear Us Apart.”
But Hannett was also known for his unconventional production techniques and willingness to experiment, which might explain why he had the band record multiple versions of “Love Will Tear Us Apart.” The track’s earliest origins date from January 1980 at the Pennine Studio in Oldham, England but the band would later re-record it in March of 1980. While other versions of the track have appeared on Joy Division compilations such as 1988’s Substance or re-issues of the band’s studio albums, one of the rarer versions has only ever appeared as a standalone single, frequently backed with another rarity, “Leaders Of Men.” This version of “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” which has a distinctively janglier intro, has long been rumored to be a bootleg, but it was, in fact, part of a group of recordings which the band, represented by Curtis, Sumner and Hook, signed over to producer Hannett on March 30, 1980. After Hannett passed (in 1991) his wife sold the rights to Chris Hewitt of Ozit-Morpheus Records on January 31, 2008. Brian Perera, owner of the L.A.-based indie label Cleopatra Records, then bought the rights from Hewitt in March of 2009. Cleopatra has proliferated this version on several genre-based compilation albums as well as issuing the track on both 12” and 7” vinyl that have become exceedingly popular among Joy Division fans, most recently as a 7” single with silver colored vinyl. And unlike any bootleg recording, the band receives royalty payments based on the sales of the track through Fractured Music, the one-time publishing arm of Joy Division. But no matter which version you listen to, this beloved track continues to be a testament to both the collective talent of Joy Division as well as a living reminder of the man who helped bring the song into being, the man behind the board, producer Martin Hannett!

The award looks to honor the lifetime work that each person has put into their chosen field and is selected by a committee that includes peers, officials and past award recipients.
Unlike last year, this year’s event will take place at the Kennedy Center on December 5th during a live in-person event, which will then be aired later on CBS.
There are countless legendary names attached to the highly-prized accolade as well as jazz pioneer Dizzy Gillespie; there are places on the list for BB King, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Paul McCartney and many more.
Joni Mitchell has received the honor 50 years after she released her seminal album Blue, arguably the record that turned her into an icon. The album has been recently reissued and is one of the finest records of the 20th century.
The blues man’s new album, dropping September 17, is a collection of imaginative mashups.
This ain’t your granddaddy’s blues. Heck, it ain’t even your daddy’s blues. Guitarist Jules Leyhe is on an entirely different trip. His forthcoming “Your First Rodeo” is a whimsical mashup of blues, hip hop, funk, fusion, jazz, rock and Latin music dropping September 17 on Monkey Finger Records. Producing the set with Protist, the Oakland, Calif.-based slide guitar slinger wrote the bucking bronco of an album that obstinately refuses to be categorized.
An audacious collection evading lasso, “Your First Rodeo” brilliantly juxtaposes futuristic elements with downhome “comfort” sounds. Leyhe paired inventive sonicscapes with soulful blues guitarplay. Conceived and constructed using vivid fantasy, the guitarman wondered what it would sound like to pair diametrically opposed artists – or, in this case, use signature elements of the imagined artists’ unique style – on one recording. Picture Cardi B sitting in with the Buena Vista Social Club. Or Jimi Hendrix playing in Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Or Duane Allan jamming with jazz pianist Gil Evans.
“I wanted to create music based off of collaborations that I’ve pictured of many of my favorite artists who never actually worked together. The clearest example is picturing Jimi Hendrix playing with the psychedelic Beatles era, a wild pairing that never actually happened but sure is fun to imagine and try to create with my own flavor. My bandmates’ fantastic playing and imaginations helped me reach for this sort of potential for pairing abstract, disparate musical ideas and getting away with it, or at least creating something unique to us. This album encapsulates so many musical idioms with a gritty, urban, fun feel of an old-soul Oakland band,” said Leyhe who was empowered by his Family Jules Band – keyboardist Ian McArdle, saxophonist Nancy Wright, bassist Murph Murphy and drummer Isaac Schwartz.
Enabling Leyhe’s fantastical vision is a powerful protagonist in horn player Shane Cox, who deftly uses layers of trumpet, trombone and sousaphone to illuminate the intricately textured tracks with color, might and majesty. The horns leap off the page, providing melodic framework for Leyhe’s shrieking slide guitar, embellishing dexterous fretwork and spiking rampaging guitar assaults.
Preceding the album release, “Start Your Engines,” an intense two-plus minute gauzy guitar workout, will be released as a single early next month and can be heard at https://soundcloud.com/julesleyhe/start-your-engines-1. The cut is a snapshot of the eclectic fabric of “Your First Rodeo” that is devoid of a singular narrative or storyline. It’s a collection created solely for entertainment and leaves the interpretation of the music up to the listener.
Leyhe played two sold-out shows at The Sound Room in Oakland with his band over the July 4th holiday weekend, their first live concerts post-quarantine. Less than a week before the stay-at-home order was issued in the Bay Area last year, he was on the Paramount Theatre stage in Oakland shredding alongside legendary blues guitarists Buddy Guy and Jimmie Vaughan. The Berklee College of Music graduate who studied blues and slide guitar has also performed with Huey Lewis, Fantastic Negrito, Chris Cain and Taj Mahal, the latter of whom he recently interviewed for a feature in the August issue of Guitar Player. The magazine featured Leyhe in a 2018 story and accompanying instructional video about how to play like Allman, writing that the young bluesman is “a wicked slide player” who has “old-soul sensibilities, go-for-bust attitude, and deep understanding of the nuances of Duane Allman’s style.”
Leyhe, who will perform the National Anthem next month solo prior to an Oakland A’s vs. San Francisco Giants game and will lead his band in a tribute to Mahal at the prestigious SFJAZZ next May, has a message for those who are new to his work.
“Since this is your first rodeo, hopefully you’ll find the new album to be a spirited musical adventure through wildly animated tunes. With no lyrics and only instruments and textural/environmental sounds, we hope that the listener can hop on board our sonic journey and come up with a personal meaning for each song. It’s supposed to be a lot of fun - like a Marvel Comics movie and like the album cover, which is filled with tongue-in-cheek, music nerd-type humor and entertainment.”
“Your First Rodeo” contains the following songs:
“Fight The Night”
“Start Your Engines”
“Sad But True”

Pizza Man Blues is a snapshot of the moment those certainties were snatched away. The Blues Boy of Matthews’ 2006 debut album has been around the block, and the genre-crossing songs he now recounts on Pizza Man Blues are written from a place of hard-won maturity. “This last year, we’ve all had to adapt to circumstances,” reflects Matthews. “I’ve been forced off the road, but I’ve tried to keep the engine alive, keep earning, not lose my passion. I’ve done so many jobs, like pizza and flower delivery driver, tree surgeon assistant, volunteering for the NHS. These songs are all about the experiences I’ve had.”
The opening charge of Mayday would make Motörhead’s Lemmy nod approval, serving a feral fuzz lick and a speaker-ratting chorus that asks the big questions. From the bruised organ lines of Can’t Keep Us Apart to the thrilling torn-up guitar tone and Stax-worthy brass on Anti-Social Media, these are songs that defy genre at every turn. “I just wanted a ‘Krissy Matthews’ vibe,” he shrugs. “This album was the result.”
But as the indelible chorus of Grateful fades – ‘You’ve got to be grateful for what you’ve got/even if it ain’t a whole lot’ – it’s that sentiment that resonates. “Being a professional world touring musician, in a pandemic, with a girlfriend in another country, during Brexit, is not ideal,” Matthews considers. “But I’ve still found lots of things to be grateful for and I’m a very lucky man. The only way to get through hard times is to focus on the good times…
Keyboard legend Tony Kaye announces the release of his debut solo album “End Of Innocence,” on 10th September 2021 on Spirit Of Unicorn Music (distributed via Cherry Red Records) to mark the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
Having retired from music in 1996, Kaye was moved, by the events of 11th September 2001, to commit his thoughts and feelings to a heartfelt personal musical interpretation.
“End Of Innocence” is a requiem for those who lost their lives and all those touched by the horrific events of 9/11. Primarily orchestral, “End Of Innocence” is a powerful and emotional suite that is both beautiful and sinister, reflecting the dark forces at work that day. It guides the listener through the day and touches on the response, to reach a hope that peace and calm may prevail.
As did many millions, Kaye watched the horrors of 9/11 unfold on his TV screen. “The next day I unpacked my keyboards for the first time in a long time,” Kaye recalls. “I didn’t know what I was going to do. It was one of those things that happened, inspiration on a musical level.”
The suite begins the night before 9/11 but, as Kaye’s wife Dani Torchia sings an innocent lullaby, menacing storms are gathering. The beautiful “9/11 Overture” was the first piece Kaye composed, the following day. “I had no recording equipment, just an 8-track cassette recorder and some of those recordings became what you hear now.”
Kaye continues to create vivid images of New York City life and a vibrancy around The World Trade Centre (285 Fulton Street) before the terror begins and captures the fears of those on the planes, “Flight 11” depicting the conversations stewardesses had with the tower. The track includes a powerful drum solo by Kaye’s friend Jay Schellen (CIRCA, YES) reflecting the struggles onboard.
Following the collapse of the towers, Dani Torchia sings her lament “Sweetest Dreams” and the album looks at the “Aftermath” and the “Heroes” before focusing on the response. “I wanted it, musically, to be about that day,” Kaye says, “but I felt compelled to extend it to deal with the repercussions of what happened. Musically, it was quite challenging to do the battle scene and then the 'Hope And Triumph,' a patriotic anthem and the consequences of war. 'Ground Zero' is the hope for the future, the rebuilding.”
The artwork for the album has been created by Roger Dean, known for his work with YES and ASIA, powerful imagery reflecting the journey the music takes.
Produced by Tony Kaye
All tracks composed by Tony Kaye except “Sweetest Dreams” by Dani Torchia.

“I’ll Let You Down (But Will Not Give You Up” is de nieuwe single van het album “Exit Wounds” van The Wallflowers
Krachtig en dynamisch (‘lean, potent and eminently entrancing’) als nooit tevoren rocken Jakob & Co. er weer lustig op los in ‘Tom Petty-alike timeless songwriting and storytelling with a hard-hitting and decidedly modern musical attack’.

This 10-song set „Exit Wounds“ is the new album by The Wallflowers and was produced by Butch Walker (Taylor Swift, Weezer), mixed by Chris Dugan (Green Day) and features the acclaimed singer-songwriter Shelby Lynne on four songs. While it has been nearly a decade since we’ve heard from the group with whom Jakob Dylan first made his mark, he always knew they’d return. “The Wallflowers is much of my life’s work”, he says simply. The much-anticipated record finds the band’s signature sound - lean, potent and eminently entrancing - intact. For the past 30 years, The Wallflowers have stood as one of rock’s most dynamic and purposeful bands - a unit dedicated to and continually honing a sound that meshes timeless songwriting and storytelling with a hard-hitting and decidedly modern musical attack. That signature style, a bit Tom Petty-alike, has been present through the decades, baked into the grooves of smash albums like 1996’s “Bringing Down The Horse“ as well as their latest 2012’s “Glad All Over“, and chart hits as “One Headlight“, “6th Avenue Heartache“ and “Three Marlenas“.
True to its title, “Exit Wounds“ is an ode to people - individual and collective - that have, to put it mildly, been through some stuff. Jakob Dylan says, “I think everybody - no matter what side of the aisle you’re on - wherever we’re going to next, we’re all taking a lot of exit wounds with us. Nobody is the same as they were four years ago. That, to me, is what “Exit Wounds“ signifies. And it’s not meant to be negative at all. It just means that wherever you’re headed, even if it’s to a better place, you leave people and things behind, and you think about those people and those things and you carry them with you. Those are your exit wounds. And right now, we’re swimming in them”, Dylan continues. “I’m the same writer I’ve always been - I was just also writing during a time when the world felt like it was falling apart. That changes the way you address even the simplest things, because you have panic in your mind all the time. You have anxiety. And you also have hope. And it’s all in there”.
“Exit Wounds“ finds Dylan surrounded with a fresh cast of musicians, which he is quick to point out is not all that unusual. “The Wallflowers have always been a vehicle for me to make great rock ‘n roll records”, he says. “And sometimes the lineup that makes the record transfers over into touring, and sometimes it doesn’t. But my intention is always to make The Wallflowers record I want to make, using the musicians I have beside me”. Dylan assembled a backing band of musical associates; “People that I’ve wanted to play with or that I have played with through the years. This was not the type of thing where it’s a rotating cast and you call a different drummer for each song, or you pull out the Rolodex and ring the local session guys”, Dylan says. “The record was made as a band - the five Wallflowers. It’s just exciting to have guys playing in a room together. That’s how you get the one plus one equals three factor. That’s the magic”. For Jakob Dylan, “Exit Wounds“ is the next chapter in a career devoted to chasing - and capturing - that magic.

Multidisciplinary artist Harley Cortez to release “An Inventory of Memory: Vol. II,” an ambient-classical album, on August 13.
LOS ANGELES (19 July 2021): If we were only to focus on Harley Cortez’s forthcoming second chapter in his four-album “An Inventory of Memory” recording series, it would be like having a phone conversation with someone with spotty cell service that allows you to hear every fourth word. The Los Angeles-based musician turned painter, filmmaker and writer utilizes the full scope of his artistic gifts to communicate his messages and themes. Set to release “An Inventory of Memory: Vol. II” on August 13, Cortez’s examination of genetic memory has been the muse of his multidisciplinary art for several years, but this musical exploration delves deeply into loss and how to process it after the passing of his mother and nephew with the goal of turning loss into beauty.
The evocative, cinematic music Cortez composed for “An Inventory of Memory: Vol. II” is indeed beautiful. He wrote and performed the eight Avant-classical tracks that he brought to life with the aid of accompaniment by Modeste Colban on flute and saxophone, violinist Andy Baldwin and Nancy Kuo’s (Janelle Monae) strings.
The album opens with the minimalist “Metaphors,” a soothing, electronic vibrational mantra. The gentle piano cadence on “Y” and its gorgeous melody intimately convey raw emotion, planting the seed of renewal and the blossoming of hope in its radiance and simplicity. “How We Become Butterflies” is transcendental, nurtured by airy piano passages, a plunging upright bass line, and gentle dancing upon a ride cymbal. A string quartet illumines “Be Still,” turning it into a sweeping, emotionally poignant meditation. A somber majesty reigns on the contemplative “Seven Mountains” while “After the Tz’utujil Ceremony in Atitlan” includes an audio sample from a Mayan tribe recorded in Cortez’s mother’s native Guatemala. A serene interlude, “Selected Memories” feels transitional, offering comfort and optimism. The recording closes with a “How We Become Butterflies” (Reprise) on which Colban’s moody saxophone plunges to vaster depths than on the original.
“After a hard year of many losses, I decided to resume finishing these albums. The thing I realized is that we all experience loss in some form, but it’s a whole other thing to create beauty from it. I suppose the job of the artist is to be the vessel, one that the traumatic experience can filter beauty from,” said Cortez, who has exhibitions of his paintings and sculptures opening in Mexico City at the Museo Tamayo in October and at another venue (to be announced) in the same city in November.
“The album series title comes from an idea of genetic memory —it has been a focus of mine for a few years now and a narrative that is at the center of a lot of my exhibitions. It’s usually an attempt to dissect ancestral language in some way. Art for me is a way to call on the duende (or soul). I sometimes think souls speak a language that is beyond human understanding, and so we have art.”
The music heard on the “An Inventory of Memory” series is vastly different from Cortez’s earlier career, which included solo, duo and group projects as part of Just an Animal, Red Cortez and the Weather Underground as well as touring as the opening act for Morrissey. This four-part series is entirely instrumental.
“As I have explored the world of classical and ambient music and less pop, lyrical music, it has become something I have been exploring more. I decided to release a series of albums not just because I had so much material, but because I wanted to gather it and split it up in a way that felt like individual experiences. Each volume has its own field recording from different places I’ve been to around the world. Usually, these field recordings have a spiritual or religious ritual specific to that place such as on ‘After the Tz’utujil Ceremony in Atitlan,’ which was recorded in Atitlan, Guatemala,” said Cortez, who will release a companion book of short stories, poetry and other recollections titled “An Inventory of Memory” early next year.
Cortez grew up in Los Angeles and Queens and lived for a short time as a young kid in Guatemala. His paintings, drawings and abstract pieces have exhibited in Los Angeles, New York City and Tokyo. As a filmmaker, he’s released short films, experimental films and music videos. In fact, “How We Become Butterflies” from “Inventory of Memory: Vol. II” is the theme song to the film he made about his experiences with his younger brother, who is schizophrenic.
“An Inventory of Memory: Volume II” contains the following songs:
“How We Become Butterflies”
“After the Tz’utujil Ceremony in Atitlan”
“How We Become Butterflies” (Reprise)

Vorige week loste Iron Maiden hun eerste single 'The Writing On The Wall'.
Steve “We chose to record at Guillaume Tell Studio in France again as the place has such a relaxed vibe. The setup there is perfect for our needs; the building used to be a cinema and has a really high ceiling so there’s a great acoustic sound. We recorded this album in the same way we did The Book Of Souls in that we’d write a song, rehearse it and then put it down together straight away while it was all fresh in our minds. There’s some very complex songs on this album which took a lot of hard work to get them exactly as we wanted them to sound, so the process was at times very challenging, but Kevin is great at capturing the essence of the band and I think it was worth the effort! I’m very proud of the result and can’t wait for fans to hear it.”
Bruce Dickinson “We’re all really excited about this album. We recorded it back in early 2019 during a break in the Legacy tour so we could maximize our touring yet still have a long set up period before release to prepare great album art and something special as a video. Of course the pandemic delayed things more - so much for the best laid plans – or should that be ‘strategies’!? The songs are very varied, and some of them are quite long. There’s also one or two songs which sound pretty different to our usual style, and I think Maiden fans will be surprised - in a good way, I hope! “

POWER OF PROG
The Grafenberg Disciples is a new California based group founded by renowned bassist/songwriter/producer Bob Madsen and soul/R&B/funk singer extraordinaire Hans Eberbach. Madsen is best known as the co-founder of prog bands 41POINT9 (with Brian Cline) and Operation: Paperclip (with Tony Carey), while Eberbach cut his teeth in various roots/R&B groups in and around his home town of Sacramento and has also served time in Los Angeles writing for film and TV.
Their debut album, ‘Johnny On The Spot’, exists at the crossroads where classic rock, funk, soul and jazz all meet, a place where head-bob inducing bass lines aimed squarely at the dancefloor switch to prog-ified pop virtuoso freakouts accompanied by uplifting, shimmering vocals. If Robert Fripp produced Steely Dan, it might sound something like this.
The band themselves describe the album as a mixture of Prince, Level 42, Ultravox, Marvin Gaye, Toad The Wet Sprocket and more, while in a 10/10 rating the House Of Prog site suggests that “the list should also include Living Color, Seal, Huey Lewis, Go West and even Todd Rundgren.” In regard to Eberbach, the review states “his voice is incredible - rich velvet, silky and smooth, able to go through quite a range and always feeling comfortable,” while Madsen is described as “having a blast driving the music with different bass styles as he brings together influences as diverse as Flea, Muzz Skillings and Mark King.”
“I have musical ADD,” explains Madsen. “Music is my escape. I’m able to go down a rabbit hole and try all sorts of different rhythms and tones. The Grafenberg Disciples is where I explore pop, funk, new wave, jazz, world music and dad rock. This band is no-holds barred. Nothing is off the table, although everything serves the song.”
A single entitled ‘No Words’ was released in early June, followed by the album in mid-July. An homage to the late Rush drummer and lyricist Neil Peart, all proceeds from 'No Words' are being donated to the Cedar Sinai Special Research Program For Glioblastoma, the brain cancer that tragically claimed his life at the beginning of 2020. The eight-minute track winds through moments of lush piano and laidback percussion before building towards an upbeat, sweeping crescendo. A video for the song includes cameo appearances by Sully Erna of Godsmack, Mike Portnoy of The Winery Dogs, Matt Scannell of Vertical Horizon, plus previously unseen footage of Peart riding his motorbike across the USA.

Albums by Oscar Peterson, The Count Basie Orchestra and Rolf Kühn are reissued Friday via Edel Germany in partnership with Bob Frank Entertainment.
NEW YORK CITY (16 July 2021): Record collectors continue to rejoice as Germany’s first jazz label, MPS Records, reissues albums on vinyl and CD by many of the biggest artists in the genre. On Friday, albums by Oscar Peterson and his trio, The Count Basie Orchestra, and Rolf Kühn resurface via Edel Germany in partnership with Bob Frank Entertainment.
Reissued on standard black vinyl and CD earlier this month, Peterson’s “Motions & Emotions” was released Friday as a limited edition numbered blue vinyl LP. Always a swinger who exhibited extraordinary speed and dexterity, the Canadian jazz pianist interpreted a popular songbook on this 1969 release, interpreting material by John Lennon & Paul McCartney, Burt Bacharach & Hal David, Henry Mancini, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Jimmy Webb, among others. The ten-track album captures Peterson with his astute quartet lavishly illumined by an orchestra.
Peterson tipped off MPS about the vocal group from Chicago called The Singers Unlimited, a studio foursome led by Gene Puerling known for crafting elaborate layers of vocal tracks in their recordings. The pianist’s trio – Peterson, George Mraz on bass and Louis Hayes on drums - teamed with The Singers Unlimited for 1971’s “In Tune,” the first release spawned during a decade-long recording relationship between the sophisticated singers and MPS. Arriving Friday on vinyl and CD, the collection showcases Peterson’s nimble piano and the group’s vocal harmonies venturing through a varied set list that boasts a swinging strut down “Sesame Street,” a couple of Brazilian numbers (Jobim’s “Children’s Game” and Luiz Bonfá’s “The Gentle Rain), and classics culled from the Great American Songbook, including “It Never Entered My Mind,” “The Shadow of Your Smile” and “Once Upon A Summertime.”
Count Basie’s 17-piece orchestra fills 1970’s “High Voltage” with swinging, big band renditions of standards the outfit had never recorded previously in its 30-year history. Recruiting Cuban composer/arranger Chico O’Farrill to arrange, The Count Basie Orchestra rifles through a dozen popular selections such as “The Lady Is A Tramp,” “Bewitched,” “Get Me To The Church On Time,” “On The Sunny Side of the Street” and “I Didn’t Know What Time It Was.”
In honor of Kühn’s 90th birthday two years ago, the clarinetist is the subject of a nine-LP boxset entitled “The Best Is Yet To Come,” which is comprised of seven newly remastered vinyl albums from his catalogue along with a pair of live recordings of the Rolf + Joachim Kühn Quartet from 1966’s Berlin Jazz Days and 1967’s Newport Jazz Festival that had never before been released. A rare-bred German who managed to find success living and playing jazz in America, Kühn was an exceptional artist with a unique sound and distinctive style, a quintessential jazz man who evolved throughout his career from big band swing to more adventurous and improvisational jazz.

Jazz history was forged in the rustic Black Forest of Germany in 1968 when Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer launched MPS and recorded some of the genre’s seminal artists. Legends like Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson, Dexter Gordon, Freddie Hubbard, The Count Basie Orchestra and George Duke released albums on the prestigious label known for its high-level recording technique and distinctive aesthetic.

JUDAS PRIEST BENELUX SHOWS 2022
* zaterdag 18-6-2022: Graspop Metal Meeting - Dessel (BE)
* woensdag 22-6-2022: Rockhal Esch-sur-Alzette (LUX)
* dinsdag 26-7-2022: 013 Tilburg (NL)
