![]() Follow up to their acclaimed release “Live 1” includes two classic Genesis tracks! Seattle, WA – On the heels of their critically acclaimed release “Live 1”, the Security Project will be releasing their follow-up album “Live 2” on October 21, 2016! Members of King Crimson, Shriekback and Gabriel's original band bring these genre-less masterpieces into the 21st Century. Seattleites Trey Gunn and Michael Cozzi join esteemed drummer Jerry Marotta and NY keyboardist David Jameson to harness the core of these songs. Added to the pedigree of these players is the voice of Brian Cummins. His interpretations add haunting authenticity to the immaculate arrangements. “Great to see some of the original members doing it the right way.” – Steve Hackett For these recordings The Security Project is: Michael Cozzi – Guitar, Vocals David Jameson – Keyboards, Eigenharp Brian Cummins – Lead Voice Trey Gunn – Touch Guitar, Vocals Jerry Marotta – Drums, Vocals “The Security Project Live is a beautifully reverential and creative reinterpretation of these Peter Gabriel classics!” – Kevin Killen, engineer of Gabriel's “So” record Tracklisting Family Snapshot Moribund The Burgermeister Humdrum Mercy Street Wallflower White Shadow Father, Son The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway Fly On A Windshield On The Air Here's what the press have raved about the Security Project's “Live 1”: “Strong marks go to this unique project that will appeal to Peter Gabriel fans and progressive rock aficionados. This is a live album, but the level of musicianship among the band members makes that easy to forget until hearing the audience applause following the tracks. Writing as a Gabriel fan myself, the telling fact is that I’ll probably play Live 1 more often than I play Gabriel's own recent reinventions.” – Jeff Elbel, IE Magazine “The Security Project has captured not only the sonic details of Gabriel's music but also the revered artist’s quirkiness.” – Cryptic Rock “The Security Project expertly reimagines Peter Gabriel's groundbreaking early output, creating an immersive experience both in performance and on its debut release Live 1. The group goes far beyond conventional tribute band territory, infusing the songs with new arrangements and elements while staying true to the spirit of the material. Gabriel enthusiasts across the board will be taken by the band’s high-octane approach full of drive, determination and energy.” – Anil Prasad, Innerviews “What Security Project does is accomplish what's been too long in coming: positioning Peter Gabriel's music as repertoire. It's clear that while the band treats Gabriel's music with no shortage of reverence, it's also about a more open-ended approach to the music.” – John Kelman, All About Jazz “Somehow, like Gabriel, the Security Project's performance strikes the right esoteric balance between the tribal groove of world music and the inscrutable logic of the best progressive rock.” – Peter Lindblad, Elmore Magazine To purchase: http://music.securityprojectband.com Official website: http://securityprojectband.com Van 1 t/m 4 september in Zuidpark, Gent
Info: www.gent.be/jazzintpark. A product of the streets of New York City he cut his teeth on the hard edged urban sounds of the big apple. Along the way he came to realize that you must make your own name and you must take what you believe is yours. He defines independence and defies genre. To call him a Blues artist is to belittle who he is and what he stands for. Horowitz is so much more than that. Singer, Songwriter, Guitar stylist, his passions run deep and shine bright. On his newest release The Catfish, Popa Chubby offers up 12 tunes that embody the badass attitude that defines the self-proclaimed "King Of The New York City Blues. The Catfish is aptly titled as it delivers punch after punch of musical inspiration drawing on 25 plus years of street smarts and road worthy musicianship. The Catfish embodies the concepts that make Popa Chubby who he is. Regal and Delicious, the recording shines with multiple flavor and worldliness. From the first funk/blues rock inspired stylings of "Going Downtown" to the final Dobro tinged classic blues of "C'mon In My Kitchen" the record ebbs and flows with the currents of musical mastery befitting the Pimp of the river - The Catfish. Popa Chubby broaches a wide variety of musical styles and themes on this recording and the songs stand as individual works and as a collection. On the Jazz inspired "Wes Is More" he stretches out on soul jazz stylings and emphasizes the band, featuring Keyboardist Dave Keyes (Bo Diddley, Ronnie Spector) and drummer Dave Moore (Bernie Worrell). On the Hardcore inspired "Motörhead Saved My Life" he tells the tale of how Lemmy gave a young man identity and meaning. The Memphis infused "Cry Till It's A Dull Ache" screams of Muscle Shoals as he moans a tale of heartache. The urban stylings of "Slow Down Sugar" feature Popa Chubby's daughter Tipitina Horowitz on the Miles flavored muted trumpet as does the Reggae infused version of the classic "Bye Bye Love". The authors personal favorite on the album is an instrumental offering entitled "Blues For Charlie". Horowitz wrote and recorded this after the two massacres endured be his beloved adopted second home Paris. "Good Thing" and "Put A Ground Man To Shame" shine with a Prince infused funk! The title track defines the record as Popa Chubby tells the tell of the master of the river. The Catfish. The Pimp Daddy, The Big Boss! The song romps with a Stones infused Rock and Roll timelessness. When asked what he wanted to achieve with this record, Popa Chubby simply said: "Bigger, Badder, Older ,Wiser , Louder, Stronger.” Get The Catfish Now! Initially inspired by British Invasion bands such as the Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds and the Animals, his passion for the blues was further fueled by his discovery of earlier blues greats such as Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Elmore James and particularly John Lee Hooker, of whom Fuller was especially fond. He formed the Ray Fuller Band in 1974. Four years later, with the release of a self-titled album, the group evolved into Ray Fuller and the Bluesrockers. While mastering his craft through the '80s and '90s, Fuller became the "go-to act" when an opener was needed in Ohio for iconic musicians such as Waters, Hooker, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells and Albert Collins. After watching Fuller play slide guitar during one of those performances, Waters exclaimed, "That was some hot slide, boy. I could smell the smoke backstage!" As for Hooker, he was so impressed that he took Fuller with him to the next day's show, 100 miles away. Fuller is now a Saturday headliner at Chicago's world-famous Buddy Guy's Legends, and his 2014 album "Live at Buddy Guy's Legends," recorded with Guy in attendance, spent 16 months on the Roots Music Report's blues and rock charts. A successful European tour that same year found him crisscrossing Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands and France, with packed venues demanding as many as five encores. Fuller's CD release tour for "Long Black Train" kicks off in Europe on Sept. 16 and runs through Oct. 2 before returning for a series of U.S. dates. As he continues to bring his dynamic, high-energy performances to festivals and blues venues worldwide, audiences won't soon forget Fuller's unique style of "rockin' slide guitar blues."

HIGHWAY PRAYER: A TRIBUTE TO ADAM CARROLL CELEBRATES SINGULAR TEXAS TUNESMITH 'Diverse group united by a shared appreciation of a talented writer' (Rolling Stone) features James McMurtry, Hayes Carll, Slaid Cleaves, The Band of Heathens Highway Prayer: A Tribute to Adam Carroll, due October 28 on Austin-based Eight 30 Records and produced by label owners Jenni Finlay and Brian T. Atkinson, celebrates a true songwriter's songwriter, a Texas tunesmith who has inspired both younger and older artists for nearly two decades. Carroll simply captures entire lifetimes among stilled snapshots like few others (“Screen Door,” “Girl with the Dirty Hair”). “I try to find moments that are sublime,” Carroll explains. “They just last a little bit and then you're back to your regular life and strife, but there are just these perfect little moments.” Evidence: “Black Flag Blues,” “Red Bandana Blues,” “South of Town,” dozens more. Carroll sketches characters with a novelist’s eye (“Errol's Song”) and a poet's elegance (“Hi-Fi Love”) as his vivid vignettes frequently turn personal into universal within seconds (“Highway Prayer”). Consider “Rain.” “I'm feeling like a bird dragging through the storm/Feeling like a scarecrow standing in the corn,” the down and defeated narrator declares. “Sometimes you can't get through, sometimes it just takes two/Sometimes two adds up to nothing.” Such sideways glances define his literate landscapes. “Long compared to the likes of John Prine and Townes Van Zandt,” the Austin Chronicle once raved, “Adam Carroll proves he's beyond compare.” James McMurtry draws the closest line. “Adam Carroll is like a very young Kris Kristofferson. He writes about things that are older than me,” the iconic tunesmith says. “You get a bunch of guys who more people have heard of to sing someone's songs, it maybe makes their stock go up, which is fine by me.” Early press strongly hints that will be the case. “It speaks volumes that McMurtry and Hayes Carll and many more all contribute to (this) new homage to Adam Carroll,” Rolling Stone enthuses. “It's a diverse group united by a shared appreciation of a writer who may be only 42, but who, as McMurtry suggests, is talented beyond his years.” Admittedly, eyebrows raised throughout the Lone Star state and beyond as news spread about this tribute record. After all, as the legendary music magazine notes, the Central Texas-based songwriter has notched only forty-two trips around the sun, a young man by any measure. No matter. Carroll's deeply observant stories simply deserve wider attention beyond his reverent peers. “Adam's a songwriter's songwriter, a unique voice who's important to a lot of songwriters,” longtime fan Hayes Carll says. “A lot of people are influenced by him. That's the measure of if you deserve a tribute record: Are there people you have influenced who will come and do it? That's undoubtably so with Adam.” Clearly. Scan the others who jumped the notion was mentioned: Slaid Cleaves. Terri Hendrix. Verlon Thompson. Walt Wilkins. The Band of Heathens. Only songs with the most depth and weight turn those heads. “Adam has so many great songs,” Cleaves says. “There are only a couple of writers who consistently catch my ear and remind me of the subtle joy that great songs can bring. It's artisanal songwriting. Never gonna be sold at Walmart, but it'll remind the fortunate few that great songwriting can connect you to your neighbors, your fellow humans, even your own jaded heart.” Tim Easton doubles down. “Adam Carroll is East Texas' own Shakespeare of song,” says the East Nashville resident, who contributed the Everly Brothers-like duet "Black Flag Blues" with rising star Aaron Lee Tasjan. “Listen and learn, people. Listen for the details that make us human. Learn how to write about a culture that you are fascinated with. Find the details in behavior that make us all sympathize. His songs belong in Texan and Bayou anthropology courses, but mostly they should belong to your car stereo speakers.” Other titles on Eight 30 Records include Cold and Bitter Tears: The Songs of Ted Hawkins, Dreamer: A Tribute to Kent Finlay and Danny Barnes' Got Myself Together (Ten Years Later). "Light of 1000 Eyes", the new video from UK/Swedish melodic rockers SEVEN, can be seen below.
https://youtu.be/sH7weJ0HGaY "Light of 1000 Eyes", is taken from SEVEN's new album Shattered, which will be released on September 23 by UK label Escape Music Ltd. SEVEN originate from the AOR scene in the late eighties where Polydor records having been fairly successful in the U.K with the likes of Magnum and Little Angels, set their sights on SEVEN, a relatively unknown act that had started life as a successful South African group, reformed to hit the big time in the UK. SEVEN toured extensively supporting an eclectic variety of acts that included the likes of Jason Donovan, Richard Marx, The Monkees and Brother Beyond. It’s a time period that Mick Devine is keen to reminisce about, “Even though they were out and out pop gigs, we loved the crowds and the noise. We went from pubs to opening to 3000 screaming fans in Southampton. It is a very addictive adrenaline rush. We got to play all the top venues, which were fantastic; including Wembley Arena, the NEC, BIC, SEC and even the Royal Albert Hall. The Richard Marx tour was definitely the best for us with a more grown up audience we were able to rock it up and truly be ourselves. It went down really well!” Entering the recording studios, with John Parr at the production helm, they recorded two very strong singles in the shape of “Inside Love” and “Man with A Vision” both of which achieved moderate success in the UK. In 2014 the original bass player Pat Davey was working alongside Robert Hart on an Escape Music album when the name SEVEN cropped up in the conversation. It would seem that Khalil Turk was a big fan, as Devine explains, “Yeah, back in the day Khalil had really loved the band and he got in touch to see if we would be interested in finally releasing an album,” Without too much convincing the project was born. The production talents of Lars Chriss (who’s repertoire includes albums with Steve Overland, Chris Ousey, Lugnet and Radioactive 4) were enlisted to produce the band’s debut album called ‘7’, which was released to critical acclaim and was held up as one of the “Albums of the Year” on many lists. SEVEN was born again! Following the success of the first album, a passion was re-kindled within Devine & McFarlane, who began work on new material, and along with the writing talents of Lars Chriss (Lion’s Share, Road II Ruin), Fredrik Bergh (Bloodbound, Rob Moratti, Street Talk), Andy Loos (Lion’s Share, Glory, Chris Ousey), Kay Backlund (Lion’s Share, Niva) and Jeff Paris (Mr. Big, Y&T, Vixen, Radioactive), that passion was given focus and a place to come to life. What they discovered was a well of untapped creativity that had been hidden for far too long and the songs poured out. SEVEN ‘Shattered’ is a collection of wonderfully catchy songs that rely on clean and memorable melodies that allow Devine’s distinctive voice to shine through. It was Devine who took the lead in writing the lyrics on this album, matching the intensity and feel of the music to deliver a modern melodic rock album with influences ranging from hints of Foreigner in “A Better Life” and “Broken Dream”, Journey in “High Hopes” and even traces of Magnum in “Light of 1000 Eyes” and “Last Illusion”. The lyrical themes are drawn from a depth of life experience and observations and are heartfelt and real. The production talents of Chriss and the lineup of truly great musicians, deliver an album of depth and variation which ranges from driving guitar-led tracks with memorable riffs to melodic anthems, all backed by stunning keys, bass and standout solo’s. It is an album that is a worthy follow-up to the critically acclaimed ‘7’. This album represents a natural progression for SEVEN and it features 12 stunning tracks that are laden with great musical performances and soaring vocals, and while being fresh and up to date, they have bite and edge and yet remain melodic and catchy This is one superb follow up album that will not disappoint. HARD DRIVING ROCK DEBUT CD BY NEON ALLEY FEAT. GUITARIST / VOCALIST DAVID VACCARO TO BE RELEASED28/8/2016 Boston, MA - Known for (what the band likes to call) Modern Classic Rock, Neon Alley takes you back to an era when Rock wasn’t about making a quick buck, but about songs written and performed from the heart.
BAND: David Vaccaro – Lead vocals, guitars, keyboards. Mike McDonald – Bass, Vocals. Scott Marion – Drums & percussion BACKGROUND: David Vaccaro’s story in music has a rare upward sweep. Vaccaro has journeyed from hardscrabble Boston club dates to the 90’s music scene of Los Angeles and creative collaborations with some of melodic rock’s platinum selling vocalists. With the self-titled debut album of his new band Neon Alley (out on DMV Music), Vaccaro revisits that visceral soulfulness of his early days. This collection of originals including a cleverly re-imagined cover is perfectly crafted for sweat-soaked live performances. And Neon Alley has been doing just that, sweat-soaked live performances in clubs in and around Central Massachusetts, working their live show and earning a reputation as one of the best live bands in the area. David’s previous CD releases under the band name V-Project include Lost Demos and New Machine. Lost Demos, for the most part an acoustic rock CD, features collaborations and vocals by Robin McAuley (Grand Prix, McAuley Schenker Group, Survivor, Raiding The Rock Vault), James Christian (House of Lords), Christopher Post (Dillinger) and Dennis Gresham. V-Project’s Lost Demos garnered glowing reviews (see insert) from magazines and blogs in both the U.S. and Europe. Vaccaro soon began work on his second CD that would be titled New Machine. With Robin McAuley once again lending his distinctive vocal edge to four of the CD’s tracks, New Machine was a decidedly more amped up affair. A big step forward as well for Vaccaro as he is featured for the first time on five of the CD’s tracks in a lead vocal capacity, making over half of the CD, a one man show. Reviews of V-Project’s New Machine were very positive, with the tracks You Don’t Care and Disclaimer receiving significant airplay on secondary radio markets around the US and on internet podcast radio shows. NEON ALLEY: With his new 3-piece power trio–Neon Alley, Vaccaro is poised to give fans a neon blast of guitar-driven modern classic rock. In support of the new CD release the band has teamed up with Boston film Director Vladimir Minuty to create videos for the first two singles That’s How It Is and I Only Want To Be With You. Previous Release: V-Project - Lost Demos (DMV Music) “The overall outcome of the album is astounding.....Lost Demos one of the finest albums of the year from this region or any other.” (Metronome Magazine, Boston) “From the start, I was hit by “Only Friend”, written by McAuley/Vaccaro/Post. It’s universally relatable lyrics of gratitude, contrasting harmonies, percussion and Latin style guitar make this one a keeper. “The Good Times”, with its beautifully inviting guitar opening, is also impossible to resist.” (Carol Anne Szel for Inside Connection Magazine) “These numbers aren’t your usual melodic rock that you’ve heard a thousand times already over the last 15 or so years – instead they are of an electric/acoustic relaxing quality that originally turned you on to the incredible material found on albums like Led Zeppelin 3 and 4 but brought more up to date without losing that bright, glowing, atmospheric style that new technology seems to kill these days.” (MetalliVille Webzine, Sheffield, England) “A good collection of ballad and mid tempo pop rockers, made even better by some outstanding vocalists.” (Melodicrock.com, Australia) Previous Release: V-Project - New Machine (DMV Music) “Solid and unassuming, yet deceptively addictive, this is a hard rock album worth hearing.” (Metalstorm Magazine) “I like this CD very much, especially ”Somebody Like You” and “ You Don’t Care”. The production is good and the guitar playing great.” (Music Producer Tom Werman - Producer of 23 gold and platinum rock albums. Artists include: Motley Crue, Cheap Trick, Ted Nugent, Molly Hatchet, Blue Oyster Cult, Twisted Sister, and more...) “The New Machine works! These are great tunes for a backyard barbecue!” (Home of Rock, Das Rock Magazine, Germany) “All the songs are great with at least half going into immediate rotation on my playlist.” (24Rock.net) “I think Vaccaro has hit pay dirt with the fittingly titled New Machine. Go ahead take a ride, you’ll love it.” (Metronome Magazine, Boston) To purchase Neon Alley's debut CD: shop.bandwear.com/collections/dmv-music-shop/products/cd_dmvm001 For more information: DMVMusic.com https://www.facebook.com/NeonAlley/ RODNEY PARKER & 50 PESO REWARD PREMIERES NEW TRACK | NEW "BOMBER HEIGHTS" STUDIO ALBUM OUT SEP. 16TH28/8/2016 NEW SLANG PREMIERES RP50PR'S NEW SONG "THE DAY IS COMING" |
At nine-tracks long, highly acclaimed producer Matt Pence, Rodney Parker & 50 Peso Reward, and a host of seasoned musicians - both in the form of Pesos and in new collaborators - crafted an album that’s as tightly woven as it is comfortable and worn. - NEW SLANG This fall the Denton, TX-based band Rodney Parker & 50 Peso Reward will be releasing their long awaited follow-up to their last two studio EPs (The Apology: Parts 1 & 2). Entitled Bomber Heights the singer-songwriter-guitarist is also joined by original 50 Peso Reward bandmembers Brooks Kendall (bass) and Danny Skinner (guitar, banjo), as well as a number of other great collaborations of friends old and new. These include Zach Galindo (lead guitarist on all previous RP50PR records), Gabriel Pearson and Hank Early (both current members of Turnpike Troubadours), drummer Grady Don Sandlin (RTB2, Raised Right Men), along with Daniel Creamer(Jonathan Tyler), Andy Rogers (Raised Right Men) and Adrian Hulet (formerly of Oso Closo). Renowned producer Matt Pence (Centro-Matic, Justin Townes Earle) worked his magic on the record. This album also follows RP50PR's previous three full length albums: their 2005 debut Blow the Soot Out, acclaimed 2008 sophomore effort The Lonesome Dirge and Live in the Living Room from 2011, a live acoustic album recorded in front of 30 of their closest friends and family. Parker shares the inspiration behind the album's title as well as the direction of the new music, "Since recording and releasing The Apology: Part 2 I moved from Denton to Fort Worth, to a neighborhood called Bomber Heights. It was a reset for me personally that also coincided with a change in philosophy within the band. Whereas with the last couple of releases we tried to stay within the rules of radio and commercial success, with Bomber Heights we decided that we don't give a sh*t about anything anymore except making music that we believe in. And come what may." Parker's sense of songcraft along with his warm vocals are in top form, as is the dynamic that the Peso's add to both rocker and ballad alike. From melodic numbers such as "Steppin' Into Sunshine," "The Road Between None and Some" and the lilting "Moon" to the sturdy Americana of "Night In My Hand" and "Skin and Bones" (a beefed-up roots-rock version that was originally performed on the Live in the Living Room album) this could, after over 10 years of writing and recording, arguably be the defining sound of RP50PR. RODNEY PARKER & 50 PESO REWARD TOUR DATES Aug 26 - Bossier City, LA - Silver Star Smoke House (w/ Turnpike Troubadours) Sep 23 - Dallas, TX - City Tavern (additional dates to be announced soon) FOR MORE INFO ON RODNEY PARKER & 50 PESO REWARD: http://www.rp50pr.com Chicago, IL - New band ZAP has released a digital single called “Air Traffic Control” on Steve Vai's Favored Nations label. The band is made up of Emmy-nominated composer Sean McKee, who is also collaborating with Jon Anderson from YES on a concept album project, Ike Willis, the voice on numerous Frank Zappa albums, and Grammy-nominated bassist Chip Z'Nuff (Enuff Z'Nuff, Missing Persons, Adler's Appetite).
“Air Traffic Control” started as a 60 second piece that was commissioned by Lee Abrams (Co-Founder of XM Radio) to have McKee write a piece of music in the style of Frank Zappa, and produce a video to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his passing. McKee wrote and performed all instruments, including recording the keyboard parts using a then-prototype Lineage MIDI guitar from Inspired Instruments. Besides being a musician, McKee is known as a pioneer in the field of image processing, creating technology used for new movies and classic film restorations, along with 2D to 3D conversions, with the technology he led development on being used daily in Hollywood. For several years, one of his clients was Gail Zappa, Frank's widow, and he worked on restoring film elements from Frank's archive, and also helped to recover lost video masters that Gail hadn't seen in years. According to McKee, “When I heard the news of Gail's passing last October, I was deeply saddened, she was very kind to me, and an incredibly smart woman who pioneered the concept of artists' retaining the rights to the master recordings. I decided to take the 60 second piece and finish it as a proper song, as a memorial to Gail and tribute to Frank, who was a big influence on my playing.” McKee crafted the song starting from the existing 60 second guitar solo, building a complete song around it, similar to methods Zappa incorporated. He then asked Ike Willis to sing on the track and add another guitar solo. Die hard Zappa fans will also notice a lyrical reference to the infamous 'White Zone'. McKee continues, “The original solo I wrote is what ends the song, and Ike takes the first guitar solo. If you close your eyes, you can see Frank and hear the lineage. When Frank got sick, he asked Ike to carry on his music, and while this is a new, original song, his playing and voice carries the torch for both the legacy fans as well as a new generation of listeners.” McKee then asked Chip Z'Nuff to play bass on all parts except for the bass under the solos, which McKee had recorded originally. The end result is a modern interpretation and homage to a timeless and unique style. Their second album "Afterglow" has their staple brand of gritty jazz funk mixed with elements of broken beat and hip hop, all drenched in the unmistakable sound of Tom O’Grady’s suitcase Rhodes. That’s not all; the music was captured, mixed and mastered by exactly the same team as usual. Chris Taylor and Andy Ramsay engineered the recording sessions, Dan ‘JD73’ Goldman (ex-Morcheeba) mixed the music and Bob Power (The Roots / D’Angelo / Erykah Badu) mastered it. “ (Viool: Geert Waegeman) About: Sebastopol: Sebastopolis (CD & Digital) Sebastopol: The Journey (LP) (Release 14/10 bij N.E.W.S. : [PIAS]) Sebastopol. ![]() New Orleans native John "Papa" Gros (pronounced grow) has spent more than a quarter-century behind the piano championing the music of the Big Easy. He turns over a new leaf with his second solo album, River’s on Fire, which is set for release August 26th. It’s a record that mixes the sounds of rock & roll, funk and rootsy Americana into a genre-bending gumbo that carries on the tradition of New Orleans, both honoring its past and helping to shape its future. iTunes order link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/rivers-on-fire/id1141054344 Inspired by hometown hero and longtime colleague Allen Toussaint, who passed away while Gros was recording the album on the Vermilion bayou in southwest Louisiana, River’s on Fire is John’s first release since his former band, Papa Grows Funk, disbanded in 2013. The quintet held down a weekly residency for more than a dozen years at the famous Maple Leaf Bar in Uptown New Orleans, mixing the smooth sophistication of a jazz quintet with the wild, anything-goes spirit of Mardi Gras. Papa Grows Funk released six critically-acclaimed albums along the way, including Needle in the Groove, which was co-produced by Toussaint — with Gros leading the charge as the group's front man, songwriter and organ player. River’s on Fire finds John shifting his songwriting focus back to the instrument that started his lifelong musical journey - the piano. The album reaches far beyond Papa Grows Funk’s groove-based sound and offers listeners a bit of everything — party songs, melancholy numbers, funk tunes and upbeat rockers. The record even finds Gros putting a new spin on "House of Love," which was originally released on Papa Grows Funk's Shakin’ album. This time, he revises the track's groove and focuses more on its sharp, nuanced songwriting. Working with top-shelf collaborators like Grammy award winning co-producer Tracey Freeman (Harry Connick, Jr., ReBirth Brass Band), Grammy award winning mixer Trina Shoemaker (Brandi Carlile, Sheryl Crow) and guitarist Brian Stoltz (Bob Dylan, Neville Brothers), River’s On Fire finds Gros showcasing his talent on the keys and also furthering his well-deserved reputation as one of New Orleans' most notable songwriters. Each song has its own distinct personality, with the influence of Allen Toussaint serving as the common denominator or unifying ingredient. River’s on Fire is one life-long Big Easy troubadour and composer paying tribute to another. More than thirty of the iconic war veterans huddled into a room to fire questions at the band about music and the state of the nation, going deliciously off topic to include questions about Amy Winehouse, how to blag free tickets to Madness shows and the official training they received to survive the music industry…. Watch the video here. Recorded at the renowned Toe Rag Studios, East London, ‘Can’t Touch Us Now’ was produced by Clive Langer and Liam Watson. Langer is the band’s long term producer and the man who has helped mould some of their biggest moments. Watson is owner of Toe Rag and a Grammy Winner for his work on The White Stripes’ ‘Elephant’. The album was mixed by Brit Award winner Charlie Andrew (Alt-J). Recording the whole album in under three weeks, tracks such as ‘Mr Apples’, ‘Mumbo Jumbo’, the Amy Winehouse referencing ‘Blackbird’ and the title track ‘Can’t Touch Us Now’ capture the band’s inimitable combination of pop, reggae and soul influences. As on many of Madness greatest moments, the lyrics are gloriously observational and humorous, beautifully framing life in London. ‘Can’t Touch Us Now’ is the follow up to 2012’s album ‘Oui Oui Si Si Ja Ja Da Da’. RE-RECORDED ACOUSTIC VERSION OF TWISTED SISTER CLASSIC, “WE’RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT,” OFFICIAL ANTHEM OF THE RECORDING ACADEMY’S “FAIR PLAY FAIR PAY” ACT
One thing you won’t ever catch DEE SNIDER doing is being complacent. “I’ve never been about living in the past,” Snider says. “The past is wonderful to reflect on and enjoy, but for me, I’d rather show you the latest thing I’ve been working on. I’m all about looking ahead, and this new record is very much about me moving forward.” DEE’s vibrant new solo album, WE ARE THE ONES, is due out on October 21st, 2016 on earMUSIC (world ex. US/CA). Produced by Grammy®, Emmy® and Oscar® winning song writer, Damon Ranger, WE ARE THE ONES crackles with modern energy, from the call-to-arms manifesto of “Rule the World,” to the anthemic bonding of “So What” (complete with, yes, a string section) to the intensely synth driven “Close to You,” to the thematically soaring “Superhero” (a song tailor-made for running over the end credits of the next Marvel or DC movie blockbuster if ever there was one). Another significant highlight of the album is a newly re-recorded acoustic version of “We’re Not Gonna Take It” which has also been tapped the official anthem for The Recording Academy’s advocacy efforts, including the “Fair Play Fair Pay” Act. Recently performed in Washington D.C. at the annual GRAMMYs On The Hill event, a video of the song can be viewed at Grammy.com/FairPlayFairPay. Also featured is an explosive cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Head Like A Hole.” “I always thought it was a great song, a powerful song,” DEE explains, “I can’t wait to do that one live. Like ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ is iconic, ‘Head Like a Hole’ is iconic for that era.” With Twisted Sister effectively entering the rearview mirror, DEE now has his sights dead-set on his new musical direction. “You can’t expect others to embrace what you do if you don’t embrace it yourself,” he admits. “I have to believe it first before I can expect anybody else to believe it. When you’re creating a new record, you want to make a statement, and you want to have music you can stand behind and feel strongly about. So it was a little unnerving when I started heading down this path. After Damon and I cut the first four tracks, I said, ‘Oh yeah, there is a place for me here.’ This is music I feel excited about, and I also look forward to playing it live.” Earlier this summer, DEE took part in the unveiling of the new Rock & Roll Hall of Fame exhibit, “Louder Than Words: Rock, Power And Politics,” which will remain on display in Cleveland during the 2016 Republican National Convention. To commemorate the new Hall of Fame exhibit, DEE performed a new acoustic version of Twisted Sister’s legendary song, “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” In April 2016, DEE was called to Capitol Hill for the second time—the first at the infamous 1985 Senate hearing instigated by Tipper Gore and the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC)--to speak on behalf of The GRAMMY Foundation’s "Fair Play Fair Pay ” initiative. On September 18, DEE will be presenting his new music at Riot Fest at Douglas Park in Chicago, IL. DEE is unapologetically energized about where he’s going as an artist. “Music inspires that genuine enthusiasm. I’m not anti the past — I’m just not one of those guys sitting there singing about the glory days. To me, these are the glory days, and the days to come are the glory days. And this new record is the part of my next glory days.” It sure is. WE ARE THE ONES opens an exciting new chapter in the ongoing, never-ending glorious saga of DEE SNIDER. And that’s how you come to rule the world. © Kris Dewitte ![]() Rock singer Tom Barman, New York based saxophone player Robin Verheyen, bassist Nicolas Thys and drummer Antoine Pierre have no plans to cool down as they swing into the fall season with a release date of October 7th for their much-anticipated second studio album, ‘FEVER’. The first single they share is the brilliant new track 'Bridges'. Have a listen to the song HERE. TaxiWars is jazz. This is not rock singer Tom Barman crooning away with a jazz trio led by saxophonist Robin Verheyen. This is a jazz band with a deep knowledge of the music’s history, and a love for the driving jazz of the early sixties on the Impulse! label. The music of Pharaoh Sanders, Archie Shepp, and Charles Mingus – full of swing, pulse, and the urge to break out of the genre’s confinements. TaxiWars display high energy and sensitivity, pride and ambition, and a punkiness that sets the band apart from the plush jazz scene, all thanks to Belgian saxophonist Robin Verheyen’s punchy, melodic lines and Tom Barman’s haunting lyrics. “The idea came to me five years ago, when I first met Robin, ” Barman says. “I knew he could deliver the goods: we’ve recorded together with Magnus. It was announced yesterday that the legendary recording engineer, Rudy Van Gelder - who revolutionized the recording of jazz in a studio environment - has died. He was ninety-one.
An optometrist by trade, New Jersey-born Van Gelder was also a jazz fan who had learned the trumpet at school and then developed a passion for perfecting audio sound which grew from his interest in amateur radio. He started to accumulate audio equipment in his parents' house in Hackensack, New Jersey, and from there he developed his own recording studio set up in their living room. He came to the attention of Blue Note records' co-founder, Alfred Lion, in 1952 and began recording some of the label's artists. He gained a reputation for his clear sound and faithfully reproducing the sound of instruments so that they sounded realistic. In 1959, he moved his studio to a purpose built building at Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, which was a domed, chapel-like structure whose futuristic interior was inspired by the architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, and made from wood. As well as working on countless sessions for Blue Note between 1953 and 1971, Van Gelder's stature in the jazz world also meant that other labels were keen to use his services, which included Prestige, Riverside, Impulse! (John Coltrane's 1964 magnum opus, 'A Love Supreme,' was recorded under Van Gelder's supervision at Englewood Cliffs), Verve and in the '70s, he engineered much of the output by producer Creed Taylor's company, CTI Records. In more recent times, Van Gelder remastered most of Blue Note's catalogue on CD in the label's acclaimed RVG series and performed a similar role for Prestige's archival material. Trio Trumpeter Herb Alpert, known for his unique brand of Latin-tinged jazz pop, and for being a co-founder of A&M Records, a label that released key albums by artists from Cat Stevens to Janet Jackson, is now making his mark on education. The musician’s namesake foundation, co-founded with his wife, singer Lani Hall, is making a $10.1-million donation to Los Angeles City College that will provide all music majors at the school with a tuition-free education.
“LACC is a gem of an institution,” Alpert said regarding the donation. “The biggest motivation was helping kids who don’t have the financial energy to go to a major college. At LACC, they’ve nurtured thousands of dedicated students every year. My brother went there. My ex-partner [record producer] Lou Adler went there. I’ve visited the school. It’s alive. It’s kickin’.” Robert Schwartz, the director of the LACC Foundation, said the gift to the public, two-year college, will be transformative. “It’s the largest gift to an individual community college in the history of Southern California,” he said. “And it’s the second-largest gift in the history of the state.” The money will be used to create an endowment that will fund tuition for the school’s music majors and help supply them with music instruction. It will also allow LACC to increase the number of music majors from 175 to 250. The free tuition will take effect beginning in the fall of 2017. The Herb Alpert Foundation has supported the school in the past — beginning with smaller gifts of $10,000 about 15 years ago. That was followed by larger amounts in recent years, including a three-year, $300,000 grant, which just ended, that provided scholarship support, among other things. A meeting nine months ago between Schwartz and Alpert Foundation head Rona Sebastian, to determine what else the foundation could do, culminated in the new gift. “It’s really extraordinary,” Schwartz said. “Herb is definitely a leader when it comes to giving — he and Lani both.” Alpert said that, above all, he was interested in supporting a public institution where kids of all socioeconomic backgrounds might get a shot at a good education. “Maybe we can help open the door to students who are financially challenged,” he said, “and don’t have an opportunity to go to a UCLA.” Schwartz said the donation couldn’t be more welcome — or needed. California’s community colleges were hit hard by the state budget crisis. Funding plummeted, courses were slashed, the lack of resources made it difficult for students to complete courses of study in a timely fashion. Schwartz said, “As one official in the state system once said, ‘The community college system in California has gone from being state-funded to being state-located.’” Moreover, philanthropy to the community college system remains weak. According to an estimate provided by the Council for Aid to Education, a national organization that maintains data on educational giving, only 1.5% of charitable gift dollars raised by educational institutions go to two-year institutions. But Schwartz is hopeful that the Alpert Foundation’s donation might inspire other individuals to become involved in supporting a system that is often geared for working-class students, many of whom are returning to school as working adults. “Herb’s instinct is that by making this gift,” he said, “others will follow his lead.” Alpert, in the meantime, hopes to do for some future musician what music did for him. “I was super-shy and the trumpet was speaking for me,” he said. “It made the noise I couldn’t get out of my mouth. It’s a way for kids to experience their own uniqueness and appreciate the uniqueness of others.” (Bron: LATimes.com) 1 - O’ MIGHTY VISION

At the time of the first session it was the general election in the UK, so everything in the media and press was all about that. This party can do this, that party won’t do that, this politician said this, this one thinks that and so forth, and it got us thinking that it just goes around and around, the promises, the lies, the scandals, the money, the stealing, the war, the secret deals and so on and so on. People have to believe things will change but they don’t really. Things might change slightly for a very short time, but then something else will happen which will bring everybody back down. It’s a bit like trying to take on Godzilla; we’ve no fucking chance really. We had set up the studio in the New Forest in Hampshire, the sun was shining and we were under the great blue sky surrounded by lush green historic trees with the British birds tweeting their spring songs and, in typical BirdPen doom groove fashion, we were like, “Lets make an album about lies” but musically filled with atmospheric fuzzy energy, and lyrically talking about how we all get screwed over time and time again, the high end stealers and fraudsters, the ridiculousness of politicians with their stupid rehearsed hand gestures begging us to vote for them, the lure of the dark side with power, the fact that we seem to absolutely love a downfall and the continuing desire that we the people can never give up hope! Everyone has to have hope and believe the good will out. We have to strive for our own O’ Mighty Vision. That’s why we do this." Watch the video for single 'O’ Mighty Vision’ here.
