CAMILLE HARRIS GOES FOR A RIDE WITH BABY ON THE SUBWAY A HIP JAZZ ALBUM THAT JUST HAPPENS TO BE A CHILDREN'S ALBUM SET FOR RELEASE SEPTEMBER 13, 2019
Award-winning, Brooklyn-based "silly jazz" singer Camille Harris returns for her fourth release with a team of brilliant jazz players who are in perfect sync with her own blazing vocal and instrumental talents. Camille's wildly creative new album, Baby on the Subway, is set for release on September 13, 2019.
Mixing sparklingly fresh, re-imagined renditions of well-loved traditional children’s songs with her own effervescent tunes, Camille had the benefit of a five-year seasoning at Brooklyn Public Library branches, where she “kid-tested” her music in front of thousands of children.
A sweet sense of humor is never far from the surface of Camille Harris’s songs, and many were originally written to play for adult audiences. “Children have the ability to appreciate sophisticated harmonies and playing, so I wanted to make an album that is both silly and complex, using the most skilled musicians I know,” explains Camille. “Listeners will hear influences ranging from Stevie Wonder, Esperanza Spalding, and Snarky Puppy to Tom Lehrer, Stephen Sondheim, and the joyful sounds coming from today’s NYC jazz scene.”
Because she comes from a musical theater, stand-up comedy, and vocal jazz background, Camille Harris brings to the proverbial children’s music table a body of work that honors all of those traditions. Her own quirky sense of humor and wide-ranging vocal abilities (she’s a classically trained soprano as well as a “Broadway style” belter and an accomplished jazz songstress) set her well apart from the crowd.
Baby on the Subway kicks off with an explosion of up-tempo “Jiggly Wiggly” energy that speaks with a decisive Latin accent, courtesy of a fabulous trumpet solo by Wayne Tucker, Camille’s irrepressible vocals, and outstanding work by drummer Dave Tedeschi and pianist Hila Kulik. Next up is “Chopsticks,” a fun number that jumps into some splendid four-part vocal harmony inspired by the legendary vocal jazz group Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, employing rhyme after rhyme paying homage to Camille’s favorite Chinese restaurant in her home town of Boulder, Colorado.
One of Camille Harris’s first compositions, the pun-filled “Muffin Man” is a fine warm-up for the many puns and jokes heard throughout Baby on the Subway. Here the band employs an elegant swing style that provides a great setting for Camille’s superb jazz improv chops as well as her classy way of handling lyrics. In the funny, Latin-tinged “Procrastination Song (Untitled)” the joke is that Camille has been putting off writing the song’s lyrics, and, alas, she has yet to get around to giving the song a real name!
Camille Harris is a musician, comedian, published playwright, and composer, born and raised in Boulder, Colorado and now living in Brooklyn. Holding a BFA in Musical Theater from Boston’s Emerson College, she teaches music theory, musical theater, piano, and voice. Her compositions have been featured on projects and commercials for clients such as Nickelodeon, Adobe, Merrill Lynch, and more.
A "silly jazz" singer and pianist, Camille has previously released three albums: Where I Go, Silly Jazz, and Beneath the Moon (available on all streaming services).
Baby on the Subway will be available for digital download and streaming at iTunes, Amazon, CDBaby, and other digital retailers. CDs will be available at select retail outlets in NYC, at Sidetracks in Charlottesville, VA, and at Camille Harris’s&& live shows.

There’s something beautiful about an artist finally embracing and taking command of her own musical vision and deeper artistry after years of bringing vocal perfection to the music of legends. After enjoying accolades while singing, performing and touring with icons in numerous genres as a support artist, La Tanya Hall re-emerges as a multi-faceted jazz vocalist and interpreter extraordinaire with her new full length album, Say Yes, set for release November 8th, 2019.
Though her gorgeous, emotionally intuitive vocals take center stage, the expansive collection is, at heart, a collaborative effort with Unison, a newly formed NYC trio led by Hall’s husband Andy Milne on piano, featuring John Hebert on bass and Clarence Penn on drums. Say Yes was produced and arranged by Milne, a distinct and respected voice at the heart of NYC’s creative jazz scene for over 20 years.
While Say Yes is technically a follow-up to La Tanya’s 2009 recording, It’s About Time, she sees Say Yes as the first project that is a true reflection of her artistic spirit. Fans wondering why it took her so many years to return to the studio can look to her busy schedule touring these past seven years with Steely Dan – and her 10-year career as an instructor, passing along her experience and expertise to the next generation of singers as Associate Professor of Jazz Voice at Oberlin Conservatory and at The New School in NYC.
Over the years, La Tanya’s versatility in a multitude of genres has made her a first-call vocalist for some of music’s most celebrated artists, including Diana Ross, Bobby McFerrin, Harry Belafonte, Michael McDonald, Burt Bacharach, Quincy Jones, Aretha Franklin, Rob Thomas, Patti Labelle, Michael Feinstein and Steve Tyrell. Developing her solo artistry, she has performed in recent years at some of New York’s most renowned venues, including Jazz at Lincoln Center, Birdland, Symphony Space, Iridium, and Feinstein’s/54 Below. In addition, she has appeared as a soloist with the American Composer’s Orchestra, the Colorado Symphony, the Jefferson Symphony and the St. Louis Symphony.
“I have been busy singing with everybody else,” La Tanya says, “and even though my first album received critical acclaim, it featured arrangements that I couldn’t fully immerse myself in vocally and as an artist. So, with Say Yes, I was eager to present material that would support and showcase my disposition and broad range of musical tastes. Working so closely with my husband afforded me a trusting, collaborative dynamic that allowed me to sing as fully and as freely as I could.”
Besides her exquisite vocal tone and Milne’s elegant arrangements and piano work, the most remarkable aspect of Say Yes is La Tanya’s unique choices of material – a set list that truly reflects her deep musical curiosity, spanning generations and many genres. She reaches outside the jazz realm with lush re-imaginings of folk-rocker Jonatha Brookes’ “Because I Told You So” (which the singer calls “the most personal song on the album to me”) and Joni Mitchell’s “The Fiddle and the Drum” – a Vietnam era tune whose poetry resonates perfectly in response to today’s intense socio-political climate.
Another remarkable theme that La Tanya develops with this recording is the decision to re-interpret classic jazz pieces that originated as instrumentals before lyrics were added later. These include “All You Need To Say,” which first appeared as the instrumental “Never Say Yes” on Cannonball Adderley’s 1961 album with Nancy Wilson; Benny Golson’s “Whisper Not,” whose lyrics were added later by Leonard Feather; “Pannonica,” Thelonious Monk’s tribute to elusive “patron saint of jazz” Pannonica de Koenigswarter, with lyrics added later by Jon Hendricks; another Monk-Hendricks classic, “Well You Needn’t”; and Clare Fischer’s “Pensativa,” whose lyrics were later penned by Norma Winstone.
In addition, La Tanya reaches back to 1944 and revamps Cole Porter’s classic, “Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye,” incorporating a Pablo Neruda poem which adds new life to the already powerful lyrics, to 1942 for a fresh, bourbon-soaked spin on Fats Waller’s “Jitterbug Waltz,” and to 1916 for the Raymond Hubbell tune “Poor Butterfly,” – the latter of which is a part of La Tanya’s Sarah Vaughan tribute show.

He successfully entered the Billboard Top 20 for the first time with the debut single from the upcoming EP, dropping September 13.
PHOENIX (20 August 2019): Every artist ever to hit the Billboard chart has stories of struggle, heartbreak, challenges, frustration, doubt and thoughts of giving up on a career as a recording artist. Soul-jazz saxophonist JWhite, a newcomer to the Billboard Top 20 with the summer single, “Driven,” is no different. After some reflection, he decided to pursue his dreams fearlessly, inspiring the title to his third collection, “Fearless,” which drops September 13.
“I have overcome so many obstacles and setbacks. I've thought about giving up many times. I've come across many other artists who have the same challenges and discouraging moments. However, I decided that I was going to ignore it all and choose to be fearless in my pursuit. No excuses. No public complaining. Just play hard, play with passion every single time and let God do the rest," said JWhite, a Detroit native who resides in Phoenix.
JWhite had a hand in writing and producing all eight songs that comprise the “Fearless” EP. He previewed the forthcoming set with “Driven,” a midtempo urban contemporary groove that he wrote and produced with drummer Jeff Canady on which the hornman plays his alto sax fervently.
“I named it ‘Driven’ because I felt the groove had a pulse to it. The way I approached the melody is how I approach my goals as an artist. I approach them with purpose, soul and determination."
A seasoned core of hitmakers teamed with JWhite to create the EP. Drummer Eric Valentine and bassist Nathaniel Kearney form a deep-pocketed rhythm section on the opening cut, “Valley of the Sun,” which bodes to be the second single. Keyboardist Gail Jhonson pours the soul of her Philly roots into the three tunes she cowrote and coproduced for the set – “Mr. NuGroove,” “Morning Rain” and “90’s Kinda Love” - the last of which features supple basslines from chart-topper Darryl Williams. Guitarist Matt Godina was JWhite’s cowriter and coproducer on “Soiree.” “Just Ride” is the only solo trek on the disc.
“I wrote ‘Just Ride’ on my own. It's a chord progression I came up with a couple of years ago that I finally put a melody to. I was fortunate enough to have Nick Colionne play guitar on the song. Also, Nathan Mitchell pitched in on production to really bring the tune home."
On the self-assured title track, JWhite combined forces with David P. Stevens. “I met David in San Diego at the Mediterranean Jazz & Supper Club on a joint show I did with Gail Jhonson. David is an awesome musician and has a new style of producing that is groundbreaking in the world of jazz. It was an honor to collaborate with him on this project,” said JWhite, who returns to the club Sunday (August 25) to headline a concert.
JWhite debuted as a solo artist with the 2012 album “New Jazz Swagger: Reloaded.” His saxplay is a swirl of modern jazz with straight-ahead jazz references, emoting rich melodies and lush harmonic passes atop sensual R&B tracks. Competing at the Warren Hill Sax Summit in 2013 helped him win slots to perform at the San Diego Jazz Festival, Las Vegas Jazz Festival, Arizona Jazz Festival and Jazz at the Creek. He’s also played club dates from coast to coast. In 2015, JWhite dropped the “Grit and Glamour” EP, an outing that strayed from his jazz base. “Fearless” is a purposeful return to his muse.
JWhite’s “Fearless” EP contains the following songs:
“Valley of the Sun”
“90’s Kinda Love”

SLONGS EERT HELDEN IN BOEK 'LACHT NOR MIJ'
When the going get’s tough, the tough get going.
Ronan Keating maakte, na zijn debuut als lid van de succesgroep Boyzone, vanaf 1999 solo furore met hits als ‘When You Say Nothing At All’, ‘Life Is A Rollercoaster’ en ‘If Tomorrow Never Comes’.
35 jaar Night of the Proms

HOUSTON-BASED GUITARIST SPARKY PARKER IGNITES A BLUES-ROCK FIRE ON NEW CD, ‘IN THE DARK’ DUE OUT SEPTEMBER 13
HOUSTON, TX – Texas guitarist Sparky Parker announces a September 13 date for the self-release of his new CD, In the Dark, featuring 10 blistering blues-rock tracks that ably demonstrate why he is becoming one of the most talked-about performers in his Houston hometown. Watch the video trailer for the new album here: https://show.co/KiZajD7
Sparky Parker will celebrate the new disc with a special CD release party show on Friday, September 13, at Houston’s Big Easy Social and Pleasure Club, starting at 9:30pm.
Produced by Sparky Parker and recorded, mixed and mastered by Rock Romano at The Redshack Recording Studio in Houston, In the Dark showcases the Sparky Parker Band: Sparky Parker - guitars, vocals; Phillip Lock - bass, backing vocals; and Kevin Berry – drums, with additional keyboards/organ by William Gorman. The CD consists of seven original tunes, plus scintillating covers of songs by The Rolling Stones (“Dead Flowers”), Slim Harpo (“Shake Your Hips’) and Bobby “Blue” Bland, (“I Wouldn't Treat a Dog (The Way You Treated Me).”
The album’s original songs are packed with exciting flourishes and surprises. The wah-wah guitar rhythm on the title track, “In the Dark,” paired with hi-hat 16th notes, is a flashback to checkerboard dance floors and spinning disco balls. “This Old Thing” pumps a hard-driving back-beat on the verse that contrasts nicely to the smooth vocal harmonies on the chorus. In the Dark offers a variety of styles, keeping the listener on their toes, whether it be the up-beat, southern twang and charm of “8 Days in the Doghouse,” or the slow ballad “Games,” reminiscent of the things that Guitar Slim used to do, or a wave of 60's surf guitar on the up-tempo instrumental, “Escape to Quintana.”
Eric “Sparky” Parker wears his Texas blues-rock guitarslinger credentials on his sleeve, possessing the grit, drive and talent needed to stand tall in the eternally-competitive Texas music scene. His guitar influences range from Stevie Ray Vaughan to seminal classic blues players such as Magic Sam and Albert King. Long-time Houston fans knew him as a young blues guitar prodigy, but Parker has grown far beyond that kind of simple label. He is now a triple threat who writes quality songs, sings with a feeling and plays with ferocity. With the release of In the Dark, those close to Parker feel that this album will break him to a larger, national audience.
Parker began playing professionally straight out of high school, cutting his teeth as a frontman with the rock band Bayou Monster and playing guitar in the blues band Mojofromopolis. He also joined the Houston rock band Funky Mustard, who he still plays with to this day. Parker went on to log road miles with Blues Music Award-winning artists Diunna Greenleaf and Vanessa Collier, playing important shows around the USA and Europe, including The Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise, The Blues Music Awards show and The Chicago Blues Festival, among dozens of other major music festivals.
He launched the Sparky Parker Band in 2012, a high-energy outfit whose debut album, Live in Houston, was captured live in the band’s hometown at Dan Electro's Guitar Bar. The trio format lets Parker dig deeply into his influences, which include Jimi Hendrix, The Allman Brothers Band, Texas and Chicago Blues, Classic Soul, R&B, and Classic Rock. The band is amped up to take the seven originals and three covers from the new record to the people and knows what it has to offer is tested and true.
Reviewers have compared Parker to Gary Clark Jr, Doyle Bramhall II, and Jonny Lang, but he creates intensely original music that never falls into the shadows of imitation. A shy and reserved person offstage, music has always been the best way for him to forge connections with other people. It’s how he tells his story and speaks his mind. That story will get a vital new chapter added onto it with the release of In the Dark, and the crowds on his live tour dates will finish the tale. Anyone interested in where the blues is heading in the modern era should discover Sparky Parker today.

ACCLAIMED MUSICIAN-SONGWRITER MIKE DUKE UNLEASHES SOUTHERN SOUL SOUNDS ON FIRST-EVER CD, ‘...TOOK A WHILE’ DUE OCTOBER 11 FROM LITTLE VILLAGE FOUNDATION
NICASIO, CA – Singer/keyboardist/songwriter Mike Duke has flourished as an in-demand musician and performer for over 45 years, yet October 11 will the see the release of his debut CD, the aptly titled …took a while, on the Little Village Foundation label. Recorded over a 40-year period, ...took a while includes four newly-recorded band tracks, plus a recent live solo piano piece.
The story of this album of all-original material, is deeply intertwined between Mike Duke’s life as a professional musician and former Huey Lewis & the News manager, Bob Brown, the driving force behind this album’s release. It was Brown who recognized Duke’s talents as a singer and songwriter in the early 1980s and set Mike on a path that led up to this album.
The four newly-recorded tracks on …took a while showcase Mike Duke’s southern soul vocals and piano work backed by a host of all-star guest musicians, including Elvin Bishop, Kid Andersen, Jim Pugh and Angela Strehli. For “Let Me Be Your Fool Tonight,” Northern California faves, The Zydeco Flames, bring the appropriate Louisiana sound and backing feel to the music. “Nicasio,” the solo piano piece that closes the album, was recently recorded at Rancho Nicasio, the San Francisco Bay Area roadhouse restaurant and nightclub owned by Bob Brown, where Duke has been the house band leader for almost two decades.
“Mike Duke entered my life in 1981 by way of a cassette recording sent to my office in Mill Valley, California, by a music publisher in Los Angeles,” relates Bob Brown in the liner notes. “There were four songs by different writers, one being ‘Hope You Love Me Like You Say You Do,” written and sung by Mike. That original ‘demo tape’ featured here, has a vocal performance that blew me away. I called Huey Lewis, as we were looking for material for his second album, asked him to come by, ‘now’ to hear this song and ....... it was in the Top Forty on the Billboard chart in June of 1982.
“I got Mike’s phone number and asked him to send some more tunes. After returning from a road trip, there was another cassette on my desk that included ‘Let Her Go and Start Over,’ also eventually recorded by Huey Lewis & the News. This is the ultimate break-up song and my marriage happened to be in the midst of ending; I had to meet this guy! Another tune, ‘Doin’ It All for My Baby,’ was written a bit later and became a big hit in 1987 (*6 in Billboard) for the band. Those three original songs as I heard them are here to share with you.”
On the vintage tracks, none of which have been released before, Mike Duke employed a collection of superb players over the years, many of whom were in the Southern rock milieu that Duke was an integral part of during his time in the South. Most of the tracks presented here are in their original demo form, including the three covers by Huey Lewis & the News.
On the original version of “Hope You Love Me Like You Say You Do,” heard here for the first time, Duke is joined by his fellow members of the group, Wet Willie as it was in 1980: Jimmy Hall – sax, backing vocals; Larry Berwald – guitar; and Jack Hall – bass. The drummer on this track, who also appears throughout many of the other songs on the album, was Bill Stewart, who interestingly enough was the original drummer in Wet Willie before becoming a Capricorn Records mainstay in groups such as Cowboy and the Gregg Allman band.
“That’s What So Good About the South,” Mike’s tribute to all-things-Southern, was originally pitched by Duke to the great Dr. John; and one listen to the tune confirms it would have been a perfect song for him. That track was co-produced by former Allman Brothers Band guitarist Jack Pearson, who also plays guitar on it.
Mike also explains that, ”Coming Round Again,” Duke’s heartfelt paean to the end of a relationship, was originally pitched to Gregg Allman after his break-up with Cher. The earliest recorded track on this project, it was produced in 1977 by noted Southern rock producer Paul Hornsby (The Marshall Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels Band) at his Muscadine Studios in Macon, Georgia.
Gary Michael Duke was born October 18, 1948, in Mobile, Alabama. He learned to play music by ear on a piano his mother had in the house. Mike was a member of several bands in high school, and sang and wrote for a black church in the area. The song “Torn & Scarred,” written in 1969 and newly-recorded for this collection, is a perfect example of Mike’s gospel roots.
In 1974, Mike hooked up with fellow Mobile brethren Wet Willie and made his first appearance on record with them for their Capricorn Records breakout album, Keep on Smilin’, and title track hit single. He next appeared on their 1975 follow-up, Dixie Rock, before joining the band full-time later that year. Mike would go on to record on two more Wet Willie albums for Capricorn before the band moved on to Epic Records for two releases. Several of Mike’s songs were recorded on those albums as well. Mike later also had a brief stint with The Outlaws.
In 1983, Bob Brown convinced Mike to move to the West Coast. He became a known entity in the San Francisco Bay Area music scene immediately, hooking up with other songwriters and just by engaging everyone he meets. During this time he also opened an East Coast tour on solo piano for Huey Lewis & the News.
After spending several years as the lead singer/keyboardist of The Solid Senders, the house band at Slim’s nightclub in San Francisco, he joined Delbert McClinton’s band as a featured member for most of the ‘90s, and since Delbert was based in Nashville, Mike relocated there.
When Bob Brown purchased an old country roadhouse, Rancho Nicasio, in 1998, he asked Mike if he was ready to return to the West Coast, and Mike once again became a fixture in Northern California. He is not only a prominent member of the Rancho All-Stars at the roadhouse; Mike manages their General Store as well!

SHAPED IN DREAMS RELEASE 'ECHOES OF ELDREN DEEDS' ALBUM TEASER, FEAT. MEMBERS OF BLACK CROWN INITIATE, OBSCURA, OBSCURITY.
SHAPED IN DREAMS have released a video teaser for 'Echoes Of Eldren Deeds', their debut album, which will be released in November 2019. SHAPED IN DREAMSfeaturing Members Of Black Crown Initiate, Obscura, Obscurity, Alkaloid and more. The first single 'Fire Within' is set for release on September 6th, backed by a animated video. The album teaser can be viewed below. The album teaser can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/153KK_GlYzQ
Echoes of Eldren Deeds was recorded between February 2018 and June 2019 at the respective studios of the guest artists – Germany, Slovakia, USA, Great Britain and is scheduled to be released in November 2019 via Vmbrella. Tom Fountainhead Geldschläger (ex-Obscura, Amogh Symphony, Pitts-Minnemann Project) did the mixing, mastering, arranging, editing and co-producing.
SHAPED IN DREAMS is a musical project of composer/multiinstrumentalist Martin Matiasovic featuring international, renowned guest artists from Black Crown Initiate, Obscura, Obscurity, Alkaloid and more. The main motivation behind the project was establishing a creative outlet for the artist’s restless urge to compose and thereby also present his eclectic, multigenre vision of music mainly drawing inspiration from heavy, guitar oriented and classical music. The result is a kind of music that represents the message that genres and styles are but a superficial, non-essential quality of music, that its real substance lies beyond them and that they ultimately don’t matter. This is expressed by a multitude of genres represented on the album while at the same time conveying the same ideas throughout its entirety.
Martin Matiasovic – producer, rhythm, lead and acoustic guitar, french horn, field recordings, composing, arranging, editing
James Dorton – vocals, arranging (Black Crown Initiate, Replacire)
Linus Klausenitzer – fretless bass, editing, arranging (Obscura, Alkaloid, Noneuclid)
Marc Dzierzon – drums, arranging (Obscurity, Centaurus-A, ex-Almanac, ex-Dew Scented)
Matthias Preisinger – acoustic piano, string instruments (german composer, multiistrumentalist, session musician)
Mikołaj Suchanek – electric piano, improvisations (jazz pianist)
Harmonia Nova – wind instruments (woodwind quintet)
Christina Rotondo – clean vocals (session vocalist)
Born February 1993 in Slovakia, Martin showed an early interest in music starting with recorder at the age of 6, later switching to french horn. During his mid teenage years he developed an interest in alternative rock music listening to Nirvana and Alice In Chains which also led him to pick up the guitar. Shortly after that he started favoring heavier, more guitar oriented bands like Megadeth and Judas Priest, later scandinavian melodeath pioneers In Flames and Dark Tranquillity as well as instrumental guitar music from Shrapnel Records artists. From day one he was experimenting with writing own music rather than learning songs of other artists. This naturally progressed to a heavy interest in composition and music theory which, soon after, he was being taught formally at the conservatory in Bratislava where he also continued with his french horn studies. During these years he formed a melodic death metal band with friends. This helped him to further develop his songwriting skills in the metal genre and gain experiences with playing in a band situation, later he stepped in as a touring guitarist for a local symphonic black metal band. After graduating at the conservatory he went on to study french horn performance at Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden, Germany, where he attained his bachelor’s degree in 2019 and got further accepted for master studies. During his second year in Dresden he won a scholarship which he used as a financial basis to start producing SHAPED IN DREAMS‘ first realease ‘Echoes of Eldren Deeds‘.

Magma's critically acclaimed newest album Zëss is a 38-minute musical work by Christian Vander. Composed in 1970, Zëss had long been plagued by its incompleteness, its recording was deferred for years. Four decades after its first draft, the work has finally been recorded in an orchestral version that gives it both its true dreamlike dimension and its transcending power. The first public performance took place in Bourges in 1979. It is the last piece in a series of unfinished compositions from the 1970s. During the last 15 years, they finished and released all these different pieces. Zëss is described as a work that touches the philosophical domain by its treatment of the idea of nothingness and its evocation of the theme of time.
Magma turned fifty this year, catapulting into the very exclusive circle of bands who for five decades have never laid down their instruments, nor turned down their volume! The oldest French band still in existence has always played at full sail, never yielding to the siren song of passing trends. The fiercely original music has tirelessly adhered to the highest artistic standards while still reaching a wide audience of all ages.
Zëss is available for pre-order as a limited edition of 1500 numbered copies on gold colored vinyl. The package includes a 4-page booklet. The vinyl edition will be released on September 20, 2019.

INDIE DUO H. KINK (THE ALTER-SUPEREGO OF LISA RIEFFEL AND TIMM SHARP) ARE TWO LOS ANGELEANS RENOUNCING 20TH CENTURY LINEAR SONGWRITING.
His is in favor of something a little less definable, a bit sassier and harder to pin down.
Faintly art-rock, with a theatrical, funhouse lean duo H. Kink dive similar experimental depths as of Montreal or Cocteau Twins... but with decidedly arousing self-production techniques (acoustic guitar recorded on a Rite-Aid lapel mic) that instantly become fully produced when looped frantically through the Montserrat Neve modules and Urei 1176LN compressors at Wendy & Lisa's fabled bungalow studios wherein the duo recorded and mixed their debut album 'Wish I Were Here', in early 2019.
While sticking mainly to the assortments of dirty bar-bathroom femmepop, the duo occasionally swim into more languid waters, such as love balladry or pseudo-country ... before departing instantly back into its comfort zone which is postpost post-adolescent pop-heat loops, tunnel-visioned ass shakers propelled by psychedelic shrapnel, harmonizing and tripping along until the pills wear off, the sun comes up, or probably both.
Bipolar mood swings, an obsession with 818-Hollywood, lust, and self-loathing/discovery, all jammed into thumping pop-voids take us to the far left of what can be accomplished when locked inside a hot, windowless room outfitted with nothing but a MIDI Controller, an acoustic guitar, and a laptop...
~ Jay Carlos, Tight.AF
Jennis delivers more sound, variety and fun than one would think could fit into a single touring van. The duo brings together Guelph-based Dennis Gaumond’s decades of writing and performing, with Jen Gillmor, veteran of the Toronto indie scene. Their blend of cello, dobro, didgeridoo, harmonica, flute, guitar, bass, jaw harp and wazinator, combined with catchy, quirky original songs, makes for a unique and unforgettable performance.
Their debut album, The Current, was released in June, 2014 and has charted at college radio stations across Canada. It was noticed by The Toronto Blues Society who nominated them as finalists in their 2015 Talent Search Contest. They showcased at the 2015 FMO and the 2017 Toronto Blues Summit.
Jennis is set the release their sophomore recording,
The Mirror on October 4, 2019. It is a collection of original songs, except for a ‘Jennisized’ version of the Bob Marley song "Get Up, Stand Up". The songs all contain elements of blues, jazz, reggae, rock and exotic world textures, which are typical of Jennis’s musicality.
The Mirror features Jen on cello, didgeridoo, bass, flute and vocals, and Dennis on vocals, guitars, dobro and harmonica and includes contributions from guest artists such as Cécile Doo-Kingué on guitar (track 10), Tannis Slimmon and Shannon Kingsbury on back-up vocals, Tom Wolf on drums and percussion, Oisin Hannigan on bodhrán (track 9) and Chris Dahmer on organ and accordion.
Lyrically, the songs address a variety of topics. The title song, "Sneak Past the Mirror", is about how we all feel like youngsters until we catch a glimpse of ourselves in the mirror. "You Never Know" is about how we can’t predict the future, but it is also about how knowledge itself is an elusive butterfly that is beyond our grasp. "Too Much Stuff" is a playful commentary on consumerism. Other songs contain social comment, spiritual observations and acknowledgement of reality’s pervasive underpinning of love. The general tone of the lyrics is thoughtful but light-hearted, inviting the listener to ‘look in the mirror’ and to take inventory of what is truly important in life.

DEAL GIVES ACCESS TO HUNDREDS OF HOURS OF PERSONAL AUDIO RECORDINGS, FILM FOOTAGE, PHOTOGRAPHS, PERSONAL DIARIES AND LETTERS FOR EXCLUSIVE USE IN FEATURE DOCUMENTARY
New York, August 12, 2019 – Imagine Documentaries President, Justin Wilkes, announced today that the company has reached an exclusive deal with the Louis Armstrong™ Educational Foundation to produce the definitive documentary on Jazz legend and beloved entertainer, Louis Armstrong. The deal comes with access to hundreds of hours of audio recordings, film footage, photographs, personal diaries and a life’s worth of ephemera for exclusive use in the first significant documentary dedicated entirely to his life. In addition to Louis’ prolific music and film career, Louis was an avid biographer and kept an almost daily audio diary from the early 1950’s until the day he passed in 1971, all on reel-to-reel tape recordings and all organized meticulously “for posterity” by “Pops” himself.
“I find it difficult to imagine a voice more globally recognized than that of Louis Armstrong,” said Imagine Documentaries’ President, Justin Wilkes. “And yet, the story behind the voice; of the music, the man, and the impact he had on our world has never been fully recognized on film. As the song goes, we’re honored to bring him ‘back to where he belongs.’”
Widely known as the Promethean genius of modern American music teaching the world the language of jazz as its greatest singer and instrumentalist, Louis was an imaginative, insightful and industrious artist and entertainer of such depth and irresistible magnetism that he charted a number one record in 1964 (knocking The Beatles off the top of the charts), forty-one years after his groundbreaking recordings with his mentor Joe “King” Oliver. Offstage he was witty, introspective, and extremely complex. Louis was a beloved colleague and the definition of down-home but when crossed he could reveal an explosive temper. His larger-than-life and conventionally softened stage personality was much tougher and sharp-edged than his worshipping fans ever knew.
“This is a perfect time to remind the world of the power, depth and beauty in Louis Armstrong’s music and story, especially as we celebrate fifty years of Armstrong’s generosity in establishing the Foundation,” said Stanley Crouch, President of The Louis Armstrong™ Educational Foundation. “He was born in poverty in one of the roughest neighborhoods in New Orleans, Louisiana. Absorbing the multilayered music and culture of that fascinating place and time, he went on to heal and educate the country and world with the depth of his playing, singing and undying belief in the value of our common humanity. The life and times, trials, tribulations and triumphs of Louis Armstrong still has much to show the world. He is an iconic genius whose rich musical, social and philosophical insights are timeless.”
Production is scheduled to commence this fall.
Over the last year, Imagine Documentaries’ has amassed a growing slate of productions which also includes the Bryce Dallas Howard documentary DADS, the Ron Howard directed documentary Rebuilding Paradise for National Geographic Documentary Films, a documentary about 13-time NBA All-Star Dwyane Wade for ESPN Films, Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band which is premiering as the opening night film at this year’s Toronto Film Festival, and the docu-series She The People with Sarah Jones, for CNN. The division recently teamed up with Apple to produce a slate of feature documentaries and docuseries, under an exclusive, first-look deal.

You can’t miss Ghalia Volt. She’s the natural-born rock star with the leather jacket and wicked grin, leaning from her album sleeve to offer you a hit on her hip flask. But the real Southern blend ain’t in the bottle, it’s on the songs. Following the New Orleans flavours of her 2017 breakthrough, Let The Demons Out, this year sees the acclaimed Brussels-born singer-songwriter dive deeper into the American South, recording in the hill country of Mississippi, where she shared her songs with a cast of esteemed local musicians and caught the flying sparks. This is Mississippi Blend: an album as fiery and throat-burning as Delta moonshine.
Six years ago, Ghalia was a best-kept secret, her days spent busking on the streets of the Belgium capital, her nights shaking the city’s blues clubs. But as a die-hard R&B and blues fan, the singer-songwriter found the siren call of America too strong to resist. Visiting Chicago, Memphis and Nashville, Ghalia’s livewire talent saw her embraced by the musical motherland and elevated to headliner status.
Before long, on Let The Demons Out, she fused the groove of New Orleans with her own punk-rock attitude, hooking up with bassist Dean Zucchero, guitarist Smokehouse Brown and harmonica player Johnny Mastro from the Crescent City’s legendary band, Mama’s Boys. Commercially and creatively, this debut release made a seismic impact, hitting #1 on Louisiana’s Roots Music Report, #15 on the national Contemporary Blues Chart and #23 on the Living Blues Charts – while scoring Blues Album Of The Month in Classic Rock (“They’re an irresistible force”).
But like any musician with the blues under their fingernails, Ghalia always burned to make a record in Mississippi. Right from the start, her vision for Mississippi Blend was clear. This was to be an album so raw it bled, recorded deep in the hill country, letting all the region’s favourite sons add their thumbprint and catching the vibe that blew on the breeze. “Raw and natural,” nods the singer. “With bleedings, minimal microphones used, a traditional approach with modern influences.”
There was one studio that fit the bill. Owned and operated by, award-winning producer Jim Dickinson sons, Cody and Luther Dickinson, the Zebra Ranch in Coldwater, Mississippi, is a beacon of old-school production, where titans from T-Model Ford to R.L. Burnside have torn it up. But rather than being overawed by the studio’s history, Ghalia stepped up with her own songs and attitude, immersed in the Mississippi spirit. “I wanted this record to be organic, with hill country influences and the punk, garage and rock ‘n’ roll that I started with. I’m not trying to imitate any style, but letting my songs drive this music.”
Lyrically, these songs are Ghalia’s most powerful yet. “Meet You Down The Road is an emotive poem about the tragic loss of a loved one,” she says. “Drag Me Down is about never stopping doing what we aim to do. Squeeze is an erotic love song disguised in a cute, playful story. Why Don’t You Sell Your Children? speaks of a society in which common morals have become so increasingly depleted in the interest of greed that one’s next step might as well be to sell off your offspring for some extra cash.”
Ghalia sings up a storm, while playing soulful dobro and slide guitar. But this is anything but a one-woman show. Once again, Zucchero and Brown were the engine room, while every morning saw the singer welcome a new guest. On drums, you’ll find Cody Dickinson of the feted North Mississippi Allstars, alternating with Cedric Burnside, whose feel on the hill country-flavoured tunes would have made both his late father and grandfather proud. The veteran harp-blower Watermelon Slim duets with Ghalia on the dusty-road groove of Wade In The Water, while Lightnin’ Malcolm – a guitarist credited with keeping the hill country scene so healthy – plays searing leads. “The process of this record,” says Ghalia, “was an absolutely beautiful experience.”
By all means, take a slug on her hip flask. But don’t forget to play Mississippi Blend – and fall for the most powerful cocktail of star players and roots styles you’ll hear this year. “I just can't wait,” says the singer, “to share this new album live…”

The Blues Caravan rolled again. In 2019 – just like every year since the first trek back in 2005 – you could experience a night of house-rocking live music, as three unique artists hit the stage at clubs across the US and Europe. On this CD + DVD live album you get chance to see and hear the hottest insider tips of the scene again!
The concert was recorded on 15th February 2019 at Café Hahn in Koblenz!
Here are your favorite musicians from the Blues Caravan 2019 ...
Ina Forsman is no stranger to anyone who’s serious about modern blues. The Finland-born belter lit up the Blues Caravan back in 2016, when we first heard her head-turning smoky vocal and the material from that year’s acclaimed self-titled debut album (dubbed “joyous” by Classic Rock). This time, Ina returns to the Caravan with the speaker-rattling soul, blues, Latin and acid-jazz flavours of her upcoming second album, Been Meaning To Tell You. “I’ll be bringing a bunch of as-yet-unheard songs,” she says, “as well as some funky hidden treasures from back in the day. It’s going to be a once-in-a-lifetime tour, full of raw female power.”
And they don’t come much more powerful than Ally Venable. Adding her modern twist to the proud heritage of Texas blues, this Lone Star State gunslinger has gathered armfuls of awards for her burn-it-down guitar style and the original songs of her recent Puppet Show release. Now, as she lights up the Blues Caravan 2019 – ably backed by the locomotive rhythm section of Roger Innis (bass) and Elijah Owings (drums) – you’ll walk in curious and leave as a convert. “I’m excited to bring my show and my Texas-influenced guitar slingin' background to this Blues Caravan,” says Ally. “When I play live, I want to connect with people and for them to let go of their troubles.”
There must be something in the water in Belgrade. The Serbian capital has already given us Ruf legend Ana Popovic – and Katarina Pejak promises to make the same impact. With her soulful piano-playing, purred jazz vocal and sneak previews of the material set to appear on her forthcoming Mike Zito-produced album, this Berklee College Of Music graduate will have the crowd in her hand. “My shows provide a blend of blues, country, jazz and rock ‘n’ roll wrapped in a piano-driven sound,” says Katarina. “Between me and the other two ladies, the audience will get a 360 tour around the crossroads where blues meets with other genres.”
