TRIX, Antwerpen Verkoop vanaf vrijdag 1 november om 10u TICKETS Na eerdere succesvolle passages in België met R5, komen de broers Ross Lynch en Rocky Lynch terug naar België met hun vernieuwde band The Driver Era. Op zaterdag 30 mei staan ze in Trix, Antwerpen om er The Driver Era voor het eerst aan hun Belgische fans voor te stellen. Ross en Rocky Lynch werden in 2009 bekend met hun band R5 die ze samen met boer Riker, zus Rydel en beste vriend Ellington 'Ratliff’ vormden. In korte tijd slaagde de groep erin om een nieuwe stem te worden in de pop-rockwereld. Hun debuutalbum 'Louder’ (2013) stond bovenaan de hitlijsten in tien verschillende landen en de nummers werden keer op keer luidkeels meegezongen tijdens hun concerten. Hun laatste EP 'New Addictions’ (2017) bereikte ook meteen de top van de iTunes Pop Chart en de broers namen een steeds grotere rol op in het schrijf- en productiewerk. Het is tijdens het schrijven van deze plaat dat het idee van The Driver Era geboren werd. Na hun laatste R5-tour beslisten Ross en Rocky om onder een andere naam en met een andere muzikale en artistieke focus verder te gaan. In 2018 debuteerde The Driver Era met de single 'Preacher Man’. In juni 2019 volgde het eerste full album 'X’, waarop duidelijk werd dat Ross en Rocky toe waren aan experimenteren. Ze willen hun muzikale visie niet beperken tot één bepaalde sound of stijl, maar willen net muziek creëren zonder zelfopgelegde grenzen. In elk nummer klinkt het alsof de broers op een open weg rijden met eindeloze mogelijkheden. Je hoort en voelt dat ze ervan genieten om te kunnen ontsnappen en dat ze weigeren om lang op dezelfde (artistieke) plaats te blijven. Nylon-string funk, bossa, flamenco, Cuban jazz, song lyrics in three languages, captivating guitar and trumpet conversations, virtuosic bass and cajón solos, refined cello lines - all with a bit of a Miami suntan - this is what you can expect to hear on this record. Jose Conde produced "Alma Del Sur" at the City of Progress studio and his SoBe Sound studio. The sessions were described as "intriguing and tasteful fusion." The distinguished team of musicians included Ukrainian-born and Miami-based composer, guitarist and vocalist Aleks Di Roma, two-time Grammy Award winning bassist Jose Armando Gola, four-time Latin Grammy nominated percussionist Adolfo Herrera, Adjunct Professor of Jazz Trumpet at Florida International University trumpeter Francisco Dimas, University of Miami doctor of musical arts candidate cellist Shea Kole, as well as the featured vocals, additional percussion and rhythm guitar work of Jose Conde on the track "El Ucraniano." Producer, arranger and an award-winning singer-songwriter, Conde won Best Latin Album IMA in 2008 with his group "Ola Fresca." The album was mostly recorded over four-day sessions at the City of Progress studio, founded by Andrew Yeomanson, aka DJ Le Spam and leader of the notorious Miami-based band Spam Allstars. “Aleks has a very solid flamenco foundation, and in this record he is also adding elements of jazz, pop, rock and funk,” says Conde. “Alma Del Sur” is the second album by Aleks Di Roma, featuring his virtuosic flamenco-infused percussive guitar style. It is also the first full album release since his critically acclaimed debut “Horizon Of Harmony” in 2010. Other notable releases include the instrumental rendition of a renowned Ukrainian folk song “Moonlit Night” (Нiч Яка Мiсячна) and “Jukebox Groove,” a musical tribute to influential Jewish composers, released in 2014. “Alma Del Sur” features instrumental works composed by Aleks Di Roma and songs set to his own lyrics in Russian, as well as Spanish lyrics by Jose Conde on “El Ucraniano,” Russian lyrics of Chicago-based poet Gari Lait on the song titled “Dream” (Сон), and Ukrainian lyrics of renowned poet Maksym Tadeyivych Rylsky (1895-1964), the author of “Summer Stops At The Door” (Спинилось Лiто На Порозi). His ten years collaborating with Christian Vander, whose music revolves around voices, have taught him to fine-tune this very special instrument. Throughout his career, Simon Goubert has always used the voice, be it singular or plural, subtle or orchestral. Dat heeft de rockband waar hij in speelde, Little Feat, bekendgemaakt op hun fb pagina. Hij kwam in 1972 als tweede gitarist bij de band die drie jaar eerder was opgericht door Lowell George. Ze kenden elkaar van de middelbare school in Hollywood. Barrere had tijdens de oprichting al auditie gedaan als bassist, maar werd niet aangenomen. Barrere maakte bijna vijf decennia muziek en staat bekend om zijn bijdrages aan het album ‘Feats Don’t Fail Me Now’, twee jaar na zijn komst. Hij schreef het titelnummer en ‘Skin It Back’. Ook staat hij bekend om ‘All That You Dream’ en ‘Time Loves A Hero’. Barrere speelde blues, jazz en rock en zou ondanks vele wisselingen binnen Little Feat altijd de constante factor blijven. In 1994 liep hij hepatitis C op, maar kon met die leverziekte leven. In 2015 kreeg hij de diagnose leverkanker. Up to now, Angel Forrest has had a glorious three-decade career that’s led her everywhere around the globe. Now in her 50’s, the vocalist still wants to go out there and rock. Throughout her new album Hell Bent With Grace, Angel gives the perspective of an aging woman in the public eye and her lessons learned - with a gritty touch.

Potter's Daughter was formed in New York City while Dyanne Potter Voegtlin was studying classical piano performance at the Manhattan School of Music. SERVICEKOSTEN) The Brainchild Of Guitarist, Woody Aplanalp, Bonsai Universe Takes You On A Journey To Another World With Its Psychedelic Electric Sound Woody Aplanalp has toured extensively, playing guitar and collaborating with a diverse array of artists such as Bobby Womack, Lauryn Hill, Nels Cline, Thomas Mapfumo and more. In 2017 he began working on a project he called Bonsai Universe and in 2018 he released the first album from that project, Moonstream. Critics described the debut as “intoxicatingly different” (Tom Carter, KZSU) and claimed that “(he) effectively captures your attention by combining different styles into one instantly delectable mix.” (BabySue Music Review)
This year, in between road gigs, he worked on the Bonsai Universe upcoming release, Too Many Ghosts. Too Many Ghosts was produced, engineered and mixed by Aplanalp and mastered by Tony Austin, who plays drums on the song “It’s A Shame” and is currently touring with Kamasi Washington. “I went to college with Tony,” explained Aplanalp. “We’ve probably been in 5 or 6 bands together.” The same holds true for the rest of guests on the album—veterans of past musical campaigns that Aplanalp has known for years, distinctive and notable in their own right. This familiarity and history lends itself a certain warmth to Aplanalp’s dreamy ethereal compositions. The 15-song album kicks off with the aforementioned “It’s a Shame” which is a nod to Bobby Womack, “It’s my version of a disappointment blues,” said Aplanalp. “I used to play Bobby’s first hit song, ‘It’s All Over’, so this is kind of a twist on that.” “Beepsy” is a hypnotic electro-pop number that was written for Aplanalp’s cousin, Beepsy. – “Beepsy , I thought you’d like to hear a song just for you | It might not be the best song , but I still hold it dear “. The title song, “Too Many Ghosts” is a dreamy melancholic song lamenting impressions that are left behind, “In the small hours before the dawn | something still there something gone | In this old house outside of town, something won’t stop , hanging around”. Aplanalp resides in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains and there’s a thread of California running throughout the album. “Walnut Grove” was written as a nostalgic memory of growing up in Rosemead, CA. An avid cyclist, “Altadena” was written for his favorite cycling route that cuts through that city, while “Ode to Ridge Road” is also a favorite road that cuts across the San Gabriels to Mt. Baldy. And then there’s the funky tune, “Crumbs” because, as he explains, “California is perpetually drought ridden…so yeah.” The album ends with “My Little Corner”, which is a song from 1960 by Anita Bryant. “However,” he clarifies, “this cover is closer to the Yo La Tengo version from the 90’s.” With Too Many Ghosts Aplanalp has struck planetary gold again. Steve Hochman, music critic for KPCC (NPR-affilliate) said “…as Bonsai Universe, it seems he’s a lovelorn, instrospective, gentle spirit with a cosmic gaze.” Aplanalp explains it like this, “With this project, each song could be its own little universe, or you could say, A Bonsai Universe.”

Wooden Soldiers is ontstaan vanuit een relatiebreuk tussen de twee oprichters van de band. Het duo verwerkte de break-up door samen nummers te schrijven. Door het veelvuldig samen hangen in de keuken waar An Pierlé hen van eten voorzag, ontstond er veel zin om ook samen muziek te spelen. Het viertal besloot samen verder te gaan als het in de simpelste Jazztraditie genaamde ‘An Pierlé Quartet’.
Pierlé’s composities zijn bewust compleet open gelaten om genoeg ruimte te laten voor experiment en improvisatie, maar nemen je ook bij de hand door de duidelijke vastheid en hooks in de melodieën. Het quartet brengt veelzijdige experimentele popmuziek met een twist, die zich strekt van serene en open landschappen naar expressieve Brechtiaanse Cabaret- fun, met een gezonde dosis noise en trompetgeschal versmolten met psychedelisch grooves. Inmiddels voorzag het Quartet de veelgeprezen theatraal-filmische voorstelling “Sylvia” van Fabrice Murgia -voor het Théâtre National – Artara in coproductie met De Munt- van een fel gesmaakte jazzy en sferische, doch bij momenten wilde soundtrack. Florejan Verschueren (°1978 / Hoogstraten) is van jongs af aan gebeten door de muziekmicrobe en draait al jaren mee bij talloze muzikale projecten in evenveel stijlen. Hij is verbonden aan Tutti Fratelli van Reinhilde Decleir en eerder ook aan andere theaterhuizen waaronder HETPALEIS, heeft als live pianist bij tal van artiesten (o.a. Cookies & Cream) een goed gevulde concertkalender en begeleidt daarnaast de studenten van de opleiding musical aan het Conservatorium in Brussel. Florejan voelt zich kortom thuis in vele muzikale wateren.
Thuis gekomen van al deze hectiek, vindt hij rust aan zijn grote vleugelpiano - een geschenk van zijn grootouders aan zijn vader. Hier dompelt hij zich onder in zijn eigen muzikale mijmeringen. Omgeven door bomen die ademen op het ritme van de seizoenen, vindt hij de melodieën die zijn leven weer in balans brengen. Die muziek wil Florejan dit najaar voorstellen op zijn debuutalbum 'Piano Piano', opgenomen met producer Wouter Van Belle. 'Piano Piano' is een omarmen van rust en contemplatie, als onderdeel van de cyclus van het leven. Het mag daarom niet verbazen dat de werktitel van het album 'Winter' was, hét seizoen bij uitstek dat deze fase van herbronning en bezinning verbeeldt. De vooruitgeschoven track 'Winterwals' is de ideale kennismaking met de neoklassiek van Florejan, die deze compositie linkt aan het beeld van een koppel, dansend in de sneeuw. In 1981 not many synthesizers existed at that time, as well not many artists of electronic music have been become famous. Besides Jarre and Vangelis Schulze and Tangerine Dream have been the very few who were well known. At this time Bertrand Loreau already composed his first works seeing himself only as a simple amateur trying to imitate Klaus Schulze who was major influence. With synthesizers like the Multiman S and the Korg MS 20, Bertrand created sounds that still have their attraction today. Despite some little sound restrictions at some points (the cassette recordings have been done with an ordinary tape equipment), the music is still touching, as Bertrand is realizing 28 years later. The topic of the CD is Endless Sorrows. Feelings that are regarded as a burden without end. Sometimes electronic music is able to describe such kind of emotions of misery much better than words can describe. It can be a relief for the artist and for the listener to see difficult emotions expressed in music. So conventional wisdom would suggest, there's no new way to approach this concept? Well what if you celebrated a "sound” – more specifically, you celebrated the personal influence and impact of a "vocal range" in a particular genre? If you contemplate the creation of a modern day tribute to the impact of "deep male voices" of the past in "romantic ballad" settings, one name should instantly stand out from the all the rest – The Prince of Sophisticated Soul himself, Will Downing.
Will Downing is releasing “Romantique Part 1”, the first of two truly unique EPs that celebrate the rich-velvet tones that came before him and set the template for the way he would come to wield his own incredible instrument for decades to come. Romantique Part 1is a high-production volume of carefully selected classics, done as always with a nod and respect to the original as Downing deftly makes each song his own. This project is deeply personal and heartfelt. Most certainly, Downing found kinship and early inspiration from his baritone brethren, if one can imagine the challenge of being a young aspiring artist without hearing similar voices to your own on the radio. So why this project and this artist? For one, no one can argue that a send-off to the artistry of the likes of Barry White, Lou Rawls, Isaac Hayesor Jon Lucien (to name a few) is not both long overdue and well deserved. However, probably the most important reason for Downing doing such a tribute...he's one of the only artists who could. Romantique Part 1kicks off in pulsating fashion with Lou Rawls’ certified gold, 1976 breakthrough smash hit You’ll Never Find (Another Love Like Mine). Bandmate and guitarist Randy Bowland leads a stellar production effort recreating and updating the signature Kenny Gamble/Leon Huff Philadelphia International sound and feel while Downing delivers the opening growl through the mesh of the microphone. Showcased here and throughout the project is the masterful keyboard stylings of longtime band Music Director Mike Logan, Sr., who along with percussionist Taku Hiranu and bassist Hubert Eaves, magically layer a lush MFSB-esque groove to step to. Sweet backing vocals from LaJuan Carter-Dent and songstress-wife Audrey Wheeler-Downing are spot-on finishing touches to this former #1 chart-topping classic. Up next is a clever duet-styled version of the Grammy Award winning Dionne Warwick hit Déjà Vu. Although recorded originally in 1977 by Warwick alone, Will Downing was instead inspired by video of a rare 1990 Warwick tour performance with the song’s author, Isaac Hayes and called upon the incredible talents of Avery Sunshine to re-interpret the special moment these two giants blessed the stage together. A tall order for sure…too tall for most, but not this pair! The signature opening keyboard chords get a thumping boost from bassist Al Turner, percussionist Pablo Batista and drummer Mike Logan, Jr., who set the mood for the sublime vocal blend of Downing and Sunshine. Their voices complement and blend to each other’s perfectly as Downing takes the production helm on this radio-friendly track. The insertion of one of Downing’s own classics, If She Knew, is a welcomed addition in the middle of this tribute and comes as no surprise that it fits in seamlessly. This more acoustic version, driven by the upright bass of Kenny Davis and punctuated by the saxophone of Mike Ham takes on a more “dream like” quality, befitting the song’s wishful lyrics. In what would normally be considered a “remix” for most artists, this take does not compel a comparison, but instead commands enjoyment as its own entity. Another tribute to Isaac Hayes comes in the form of the Clifton Davis penned Never Can Say Goodbye, first made famous by the Jackson 5in 1971. Downing’s take picks up from the Hayes recording in the same year, but brilliantly blends a track that conjures memories of both versions. Some vintage keyboard work on the Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer by Johnnie “Smurf” Smith gives the track just enough of that throw-back feel and appeal as Downing drives home a modern-day vamp. Will Downing closes Romantique Part 1with an absolute jewel and a peek at the manner of artist he may have been had he been born in an earlier time and recording era. An absolutely transformative version of the John Coltrane standard My One an Only Love channels Downing’s inner Johnny Hartman, making full use of his vocal gifts and placing the listener in a smoky café dancing cheek-to-cheek. Davis’ upright bass tones return, anchored by Logan’s piano, Giveton Gelin on trumpet and some lush string work orchestrated by Matt Jones. The shear courage and ultimate triumph of this track cements the fact that Will Downing’s sound absolutely defies the boundaries of time and genres. True greatness shines whenever and however you present it. Romantique Part 1delivers not only on the challenge of paying tribute to legends, but is a musical marvel that captures the spirit of a recording era rife with studio orchestras and house bands that created a depth of sound lost in the beat driven production approach of much of today’s music. Billboard chart-topping jazz singer Deborah Silver and four-time Grammy nominated crooner-pianist Freddy Cole have been friends for two decades yet they had never sung a duet before they entered a Hollywood recording studio to record a loving tribute to commemorate Nat King Cole’s centennial birth year. Tapping Grammy winners Steve Tyrell and Alan Broadbent to respectively produce (with Jon Allen) and arrange the track, Silver and Freddy Cole’s enchanting “Orange Colored Sky” dropped Monday as a single. Silver wanted to honor Freddy Cole’s late brother saying, “I think Nat King Cole was a huge influence on all music. His velvety voice and debonair delivery are iconic. Also, recognizing what an admirable role he played in the civil rights movement, he always showed grace and dignity. Nat King Cole was obviously a very special man and so is his brother, Freddy.” Equipped with a fresh Broadbent arrangement of the tune Nat King Cole recorded at Capitol Studios in 1950, Silver and Freddy Cole recorded at the famed Sunset Sound Studios. We have been friends for over 20 years and thought it was about time to do a duet together. It is nice when you work with people you are comfortable with. It just seemed so easy,” said Silver, who will perform with Freddy Cole at Blues Alley in Washington, DC on December 12-15 and at Birdland in New York City on December 23-28. “It (‘Orange Colored Sky’) was a great tune and we just thought it was appropriate to use on this occasion,” said Freddy Cole who turned 88 last week. “She’s (Deborah) a fine singer. She’s a good entertainer and she knows how to pick her material. Working with professional people, they know what they’re doing. Steve (Tyrell) brought his expertise to the table. It’s good to have another voice on the project that’s different from what yours is.” Silver’s 2016 “The Gold Standards,” also produced by Tyrell and Allen and arranged by Broadbent, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Traditional Jazz Albums and Heatseekers Albums chart and No. 2 on Billboard’s Jazz Albums chart.
