​De langverwachte nieuwe plaat van Oscar and the Wolf is uit! The Shimmer is al het derde studioalbum van het indie-popster alter-ego van Max Colombie. Om de release te vieren kondigt hij vandaag een exclusieve showcase aan op vrijdag 12 november 2021 in Ancienne Belgique. Een unieke kans om Max nog eens aan het werk te zien in een intiemere setting.

Oscar and the Wolf behoeft nauwelijks nog een introductie. Wie Colombie’s wereld betreedt, treft een unieke en eigenwijze mix van hedendaagse R&B en electro-pop aan. Een combinatie van duistere, zweverige melodieën en tegelijkertijd dansbare beats. Zang die doordrenkt is van drama, maar ook overloopt van sensualiteit en verlangen. Max Colombie omschrijft zijn muziek als 'een schemerzone waar het noch triest, noch vrolijk is. Het is zoals de naam ‘Oscar and the Wolf’. Een balans tussen licht en donker, een perfect samenspel van de zon en de maan. Het is mooi en eng tegelijk.

​Vandaag, met de release van de single 'I Want My Crown' met Joe Bonamassa, neemt blueslegende en gitarist Eric Gales zijn rechtmatige plaats aan het hoofd van de blues-rocktafel en konidgt hij 'Crown' aan. Zijn carrièrebepalende nieuwe album, dat op 28 januari verschijntvia Provogue Records/Mascot Label Group. Op 'Crown', geproduceerd door Joe Bonamassa en Josh Smith, is Eric open als nooit tevoren, deelt hij zijn worsteling met drank- en drugsmisbruik, zijn hoop op een nieuw tijdperk en zijn persoonlijke reflecties over racisme. De nummers op 'Crown' worden geleverd met helderheid en bevatten Eric's persoonlijke ervaringen en hoop op positieve verandering. Dit is Eric op zijn meest gedurfde, compromisloze politieke en onwankelbare zelfverzekerde manier.

De eerste single van het album, het slinkse 'I Want My Crown', opent met een fanfare van elegante leadgitaarvirtuositeit voordat het wegglijdt in een funky groove. Hier zingt Eric met speelse bravoure over eindelijk zijn verdiende loon en geeft hij tegelijkertijd zijn zelf-saboterende verleden toe. Clean en gefocust met gitaar in de hand, hij kijkt naar de kroon en gaat ervoor, vechtend tegen de krachtpatser bluesstrijder Joe Bonamassa in een Rocky-achtig episch gevecht. Triomfantelijke blazers stimuleren de opwinding terwijl het paar een spervuur ​​van adembenemende blues-shreds ontketent.
 
Eric Gales is een bluesgigant. Meer dan 30 jaar en 18 albums is zijn passie voor de muziek en zijn grenzeloze verlangen nooit afgenomen, zelfs niet toen zijn eigen licht gedimd werd vanwege zijn innerlijke strijd. Sinds 1991 heeft de in Memphis geboren gitarist een pad gebaand en de blues nieuw leven ingeblazen met een virtuositeit en rock-swagger, waardoor hij werdt gezien als de tweede Jimi Hendrix. Hij was een wonderkind met een bodemloos talent en een felle vastberadenheid, en op 16-jarige leeftijd bracht hij zijn debuut 'The Eric Gales Band' uit op Elektra Records. Hij heeft veel lof gekregen van gitaristen zoals Joe Bonamassa, Carlos Santana, Dave Navarro en Mark Tremonti. 

Het verhaal achter ‘Crown’ dateert uit het begin van de jaren negentig, toen Eric en Joe als tieners allebei werden geprezen als blueswonderkinderen en fakkeldragers. Het paar ging door met verschillende levens en carrières, maar het volledige potentieel van Eric werd belemmerd door zijn problemen met drugsmisbruik, en in 2009 bereikte Eric de bodem en kwam hij vast te zitten voor drugs- en wapenbezit. Eric en Joe kwamen weer bij elkaar in 2019, toen Joe Eric uitnodigde om met hem op het podium te spelen tijdens een toegift van een bluescruise. Het was de eerste keer in 25 jaar dat de jongens samen op het podium speelden, en het is sindsdien uitgeroepen tot een van de meest explosieve gitaarduels ooit, met meer dan 3 miljoen plays op YouTube.

​​“Er was altijd een broederschap tussen ons. Toen we weer contact hadden, zei Joe tegen me: 'Je bent een badass gitarist; het is jouw beurt om aan de tafel plaats te nemen en je kroon te claimen', herinnert Eric zich. Kort na hun epische jam benaderde Eric Joe om zijn nieuwe album te produceren. "We huilden toen we erover spraken, Hij zei: 'je hebt geen idee hoe lang ik op je heb gewacht, nu ga ik mijn deel doen om je op te tillen waar je hoort te zijn.'"

Op 'Crown' stapt Eric op om zijn plek te claimen. De plaat is eclectisch maar samenhangend. Met verzekerd en authentiek kunstenaarschap tovert Eric de uithoeken van de blues, rock en daarbuiten. De 16 nummers van de plaat spelen zich af als 13 nummers plus 3 instrumentale - en deze kleine jams zijn juweeltjes. De nummers op 'Crown' zijn mede geschreven door Eric, Josh en Joe, en bevatten bijdragen van LaDonna Gales en topsongwriters zoals Tom Hambridge, James House en Keb Mo. Het album werd opgenomen in Sound Emporium Nashville, en overdubs werden gedaan bij Ocean Way Nashville en Earthtone Studios in Greensboro, NC.

‘Crown’ werd in een tragedie gesmeed, maar stijgt triomfantelijk. De dag voordat Eric naar L.A. afreisde om met Joe en Josh te werken, hoorde hij het nieuws over de moord op George Floyd. "Toen ik er tijdens de preproductie met Joe en Josh over begon te praten, kwamen er rauwe en zenuwachtige emoties uit me en Joe krabbelde alles op papier", herinnert Gales zich. “Deze liedjes kwamen uit die ontboezemingen. Ze gaan over mijn leven en wat er op dit moment in de wereld gebeurt. Toen het tijd was om te zingen, moest ik pauzes nemen tussen de zang om te huilen en het eruit te laten. Ik deelde mijn ervaringen als zwarte man en mijn persoonlijke worstelingen. Dit ben ikdie de wereld laat weten wat ik heb meegemaakt."

De reis van het 'Crown'-album is opwindend en, net als het leven van Eric, slingert het zich door momenten van overwinning en kwetsbaarheid. Onderweg deelt Eric zijn verhaal en zijn gevoelens via de blues. Hij zegt: “Als ik speel, is de kern altijd de blues, en op dit album gaan we door een themapark van de blues en verkennen we alle soorten blues. We bezoeken de carrousel, de botsauto's, de waterattracties en we komen er allemaal met een glimlach uit.'

In prelude to his first album ‘Bla Bla Blue’, to be released early 2022, Delv!s, the young Belgian singer-songwriter with a unique soul voice, unveils his new EP ‘Walk Alone Tracks’.

We’ve known it for a while, Belgium is home to great music. Only today, it’s particularly the Flemish side you have to keep an eye on to discover cross-genre and devoted projects, with notably an innovating rap scene and a growing electronic scene of artists ready to trace the steps of pioneers like 2ManyDj’s. In the Soul genre, Delv!s is one of the revelations of the moment. A surname hinting at his rock origins before using it at as a stage name, 34-year-old Niels Delvaux owes just as much to his demeanor as to his brown mop of hair and obvious love of music.    

As an artist who is rather discrete, it isn’t simple when you hover at two meters tall, and it becomes rigorously impossible that only a few hear your voice when walking in the footsteps of the giants of soul and its divas. In order to hold on to a shed of light, Delv!s hired the services of a puppet, a figurine which resembles him and plays his role in the “Rebelman” clip, the first extract of his upcoming album, revealed last July.
The pop-psych hymn placed the groundworks which we find today on the EP “Walk Alone Tracks”. Accompanied side by side with different video’s, the adventures of the muppet, but also musically apprehending another one of the many facets of Delv!s.

Bittersweet, throbbing and swaying, the “Walk Alone Track”, which recounts what we can feel when adventuring without goal and on our own, whilst evoking irresistibly the most beautiful torments of the soul with its brass and old heart. But it reveals in time the multitude of ingredients that contains Delv!s’ music and his solid group accompanying him, filled with electric organ and amplified guitars painting the picture of the countryside. Even if he’s given us the ideal urban walk along track, it also reminds us nevertheless the harshness of the city and the feeling of solitude which dominates it.

However, here, hope is never far. Proved by the last track of the EP, “Round and Round”, a message to future generations, started by the sound of children’s games and interpreted in a soft comforting tonality. Everything that is needed to accept the evidence. Just as nostalgic as modern, the music and vocals from Delv!s, conscious and different, coming from les plat pays or out of the blue, do us good.

In early 2011, as Todd Rundgren was promoting an upcoming tour, he stopped by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon for live performances of two songs from his classic 1972 album Something/Anything, “I Saw The Light” and “Couldn’t I Just Tell You.” Backing Rundgren for both songs was Fallon’s long running house band, hip hop auteurs The Roots. The appearance marked the beginning of a furtive cross-cultural, cross-generational collaborative relationship born of mutual respect and admiration that would be repeated again in 2017 when Rundgren sat in with The Roots on a taping of the Fallon show. Now, these two musical giants reunite on a studio recording, a track that will appear on Rundgren’s upcoming Space Force album coming next year. The new single, “Godiva Girl,” is a delectable slice of neo-funk sweetness with a stellar, soulful groove, decorated with warm keyboards and smooth as silk background vocals. It’s the kind of rich musical confection that fans of both Rundgren and The Roots knew these two could cook up together, and it’s so been worth the wait.

Public Image Ltd.’s second album, the 1979 masterpiece Metal Box (later re-released as Second Edition), was a lightning rod to the music world in more ways than one. The first pressing of the album was sold in an unadorned, round metal tin (hence, the album title) containing three 45 RPM 12” vinyl. The packaging signaled the intention - this was a band whose artistic aesthetic would not be forced to conform to the traditional commodification of commercialized music. As a result, the album became a hugely influential, landmark release in post-punk surpassing even the band’s incredible debut album. Now, one of the key co-creators of that album, and co-founder of PiL alongside former Sex Pistol John Lydon, has returned to Metal Box, completely reinventing 8 of the album’s songs with sophisticated dub interpretations and mind-blowing production! Wobble is, of course, no stranger to dub rhythms, having drawn influence from both reggae and world music throughout his spectacular 40+ year career. But Metal Box - Rebuilt In Dub seems to have truly caused Wobble to dig deep and bring out his absolute creative best. Speaking of the album, he declares “It’s as mesmerizing as the original, but with a deeper broader scope. I put my heart and soul into this.”

Mercelis neemt 16 jaar de tijd maar raakt je dan 42 minuten recht in het hart!

Jef Mercelis, de uit Turnhout afkomstige singer-songwriter leerden we kennen toen hij in 1992 de finale bereikte van Humo’s Rock Rally samen met o.m. dEUS, Nemo en The Sideburns, de voorloper van Novastar.
Pas vier jaar later bracht hij met zijn band het  debuutalbum “The Hopes & Dreams of a Drunk Punk” uit. Het album en ook live-optredens op onder meer Marktrock bereiken een schare trouwe fans maar niet het grote publiek. Hij begon zich vervolgens vanaf dan ook toe te leggen op het schrijven van muziek voor talrijke bekroonde (inter)nationale film- dans – en theater projecten.
Zijn tweede album rockalbum “Western Union” volgde in 2005 en hij deelde tevens de affiche met o.m. John Parish en Mark Eitzel.
Jef Mercelis produceeerde albums van o.m  Quiet Stars en de in Berlijn wonende Leila Albayaty en speelde bij Rudy Trouvé’s I H8 Camera, Saint Jane en Noodzakelijk kwaad, een trio met Teuk Henri en  Frank Pay. De band begeleide onder meer dichter Jan Ducheyne. Tevens is hij lid van het Brusselse collectief Individual Friends, dat zopas haar debuut album uitbracht.

Nu 16 jaar rijpen volgt er nu de release van het nieuwe album “White Flemish Trash”, een weerbarstige, intense, eerlijke en bloedmooie plaat. Mercelis is terug als trio met drummer PaTricky Clauwaert (Francoiz Breut, Trio Clauwaert Henri Jacquemyn) en gitarist Teuk Henri (SHARKO, Rawfrücht, I H8 Camera). Matt Watts verzorgt op het album de backing vocals.

​Ronnie Tutt, een legendarische drummer die jarenlang naast Elvis Presley speelde en samenwerkte met andere supersterren, variërend van Johnny Cash tot Stevie Nicks, is overleden. Hij was 83.

In een Facebook-bericht zondag schreef Terie Tutt dat haar vader thuis stierf, omringd door zijn familie.
"It's with deep sadness that my family and I share the loss of our beloved dad," Terie Tutt wrote. "The Legendary Drummer, Ronnie Tutt, 'has left the building.'"

Elvis Presley Enterprises kondigde de dood aan van Tutt zaterdag in een verklaring. De groep die Graceland runt, herinnert zich hoe Tutt van 1969 tot 1977 voor Elvis drumde bij de TCB Band.

Naast Elvis speelde Tutt met enkele van de grootste namen in de muziek, toerde hij met de band van Neil Diamond en nam hij op en speelde hij met Cash, Nicks, Glen Campbell, Jerry Garcia, Kenny Rogers, Elvis Costello, Michael McDonald en meer, schreef Elvis Presley Enterprises.

"Hij was niet alleen een legendarische drummer, maar ook een goede vriend van velen van ons hier bij Graceland", aldus de groep in een verklaring. "We genoten elke keer dat hij hier bij ons kwam om Elvis Week, Elvis' Verjaardag en vele andere speciale gelegenheden te vieren.
Ronnie was een geweldige ambassadeur van Elvis' nalatenschap.

De Britse componist en muzikant Alan Hawkshaw is op 84-jarige leeftijd overleden, zo heeft de Britse openbare omroep BBC zondag op gezag van zijn agent gemeld.

Hawkshaw schreef muziek voor meer dan 35 films en ontelbare televisieprogramma's zoals "Countdown".

In the sixties was hij lid van de rock 'n' rollgroep Emile Ford & The Checkmates, die tourde met de Rolling Stones. In de jaren zeventig belandde hij bij de Shadows en werkte hij als muzikale directeur, arrangeur en pianist voor Olivia Newton John. Ook dook hij op bij onder meer Barbra Streisand, Tom Jones, Lulu, David Bowie, Serge Gainsbourg en Jane Birkin, en Cliff Richard.

Hawkshaw werd deze week vanwege een longontsteking opgenomen in het ziekenhuis van Watford waar hij zaterdagmorgen overleed.

US sources are reporting the death of REGI HARGIS, co-founder and guitarist of funk band, Brick. Regi died on Friday 15th October.

The Brick Facebook page posted: “It is with tremendous sadness that we confirm the passing of the founding member of the band BRICK family and a musical legend in our midst. Regi Hargis, one of the original members of the Band Brick, passed away 10-15-21 at his home in Atlanta. We have been honored and privileged to share the love of music, friends, travel, adversity and triumph with this kind spirit and musical dynamo. Regi has been instrumental in numerous hits since the inception of the group in 1976 and his passing as an artist and musical family member will forever be missed. We ask at this time for your prayers for his always supportive and loving family, and ask that you hold his family in prayer as they adjust to his loss and mourn his passing. Regi Hargis will remain in the minds and hearts of the many that he has touched through sight, sound and spirit. REGI WE’LL MISS YOU!”

Hargis helped found Brick in the mid 70 in Atlanta – the original line up was a combination of a jazz group and a disco band and so they called their sound “DAZZ”. Consequently ‘Dazz’ became one of their best known songs. Their other hits included ‘That’s ‘s What It’s All About’ and ‘Ain’t Gonna Hurt Nobody’. Their last hit was  ‘Sweat (Til You Get Wet)’ in 1981.

​Heralded by Carlos Santana and Billy Gibbons, among many others, Grammy-winning blues-rock guitarist Micki Free announces a February 4, 2022, release date for his new album, Turquoise Blue, on the Dark Idol Music label, distributed by Burnside Distribution / The Orchard / Sony. Free’s mastery of tone is showcased on the new disc’s 13 originals, plus a scintillating cover of Jimi Hendrix’s classic “All Along the Watchtower.” The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Ken Riley at Rio Grande Studios in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
 
Special guests on Turquoise Blue include Gary Clark Jr., Steve Stevens, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram and Cindy Blackman Santana. Free teases the album’s release with his debut single, “Bye 2020,” on November 12, featuring additional guitar pyrotechnics from long-time Billy Idol six-stringer Steve Stevens. “I wrote Turquoise Blue over the period of time when Covid first broke out and we were advised to remain at home,” Free recalls. “Interacting with my peers was just not an option. The songs are a direct testament of how I felt during that crazy time. Take my song, ‘Bye 2020;’ it tells exactly how I felt that year, with the dying, the masks, the quarantine, the protests, the fake news, the misinformation…. I just wanted to say, ‘Bye 2020!’ I enlisted my good buddy Steve Stevens from Billy Idol to lay down the first guitar solo and I did the second solo.
 
“I get my mojo from the classic greats—the masters of blues-rock and even classic rock,” Micki Free declares, “but everything I play comes from my own heart, and with Turquoise Blue, I feel like I’m really getting to the core of what I do in a way I hope people will connect with, because making music is about a connection so strong that it transcends language.”
 
Free’s resume reads like an almost-mythical backstory to a movie: a protégé and guitar-slinging peer of KISS’s Gene Simmons, Prince, Billy Gibbons, Carlos Santana, and Cheap Trick’s Rick Neilson; glorified in a popular Chappelle’s Show episode of “Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories,” as part of Prince’s team in a now-legendary basketball game. A featured member of R&B hitmakers Shalamar, he scored a top 20 hit with “Dancin’ in the Streets” and won a Grammy in 1985 for the song, “Don’t Get Stopped in Beverly Hills,” from the Beverly Hills Cop film soundtrack.
 
Free was born in West Texas of mixed blood Cherokee/Comanche Native American and Irish descent. Soon after, his family relocated to Germany, where his father was stationed as a sergeant in the Army. It was there at age 12 that an older sister took him to see Jimi Hendrix. “Jimi just blew my mind,” Free recalls. “He came out dressed like a gypsy with scarves and a flowing, psychedelic shirt, and his guitar was the most incredible thing I’d ever heard. From that moment on, I knew what I wanted to do with my life.”
 
After his family moved to Illinois, Free formed his first rock band, Smokehouse. When Smokehouse opened a concert bill that included the group KISS, Gene Simmons, himself, walked up to Free as his band was coming offstage and declared him “a star.” By that time, Free, had already developed a flair for rock ‘n’ roll fashion and the dynamic stage presence that’s one of his trademarks. Free was 19 years old when Simmons became his first manager. Since then, he’s been in the whirlwind of the music business, having recorded, written songs, and played with Simmons, the Rolling Stones’ Bill Wyman, Janet Jackson, Diana Ross, Prince, Little Steven, Sam Moore, Cheap Trick, Billy Gibbons, Carlos Santana, and Jean Beauvior of The Plasmatics.
 
During his nine years with Shalamar, Free was nominated for Grammy Awards three times. “I loved being part of that band and its success,” Free says, “but as a musician I felt I really couldn’t be myself. I was a blues-rock guitar player and songwriter who just wanted to let it fly and play from my soul.” Once free from the constricts of playing in a commercial R&B format, Free reconnected with his roots in big guitar tones and epic soundscapes, and songs written from the heart and not for the charts. You can hear the exploration that culminates in Turquoise Blue on five previous studio albums, including the critically heralded Tattoo Burn, from 2017, as well as Micki Free—American Horse Live at Hyde Park, which captures a 2010 London concert that featured guest Bill Wyman and Native American dancers.
 
“I’ve grown and matured as a songwriter since my Shalamar days, and brought my blues-rock guitar playing, which has been my passion since I saw my first concert - Jimi Hendrix-  front and center,” Free says. “With this album, I’ve been able to thread every element of my life and my playing together in a way that reflects my entire journey. I’ve kept it honest to the bone, so listeners can feel it, too. This album is, basically, Micki Free.
 
“Another standout track on the new CD is ‘World on Fire,’ a song definitely about the sign of the times. The music for the song started out as sort of homage to my buddy Carlos Santana, who I’ve jammed with many times in the last five years or so. I idolized him and Jimi Hendrix growing up as a boy. The lyrics again were inspired by current events during 2020-2021. I have my old bandmate Cindy Blackman-Santana, wife of Carlos Santana, on drums, Andy Vargas, lead singer of Santana, and Karl P. on percussion. I produced the track and played all the guitars.”
 
An additional highlight is Micki Free’s treatment of the Hendrix/Dylan classic, “All Along the Watchtower.”  “After seeing Jimi perform ‘All Along the Watchtower’ in-person, his version was just so haunting to me and I always wanted to cover it…to this day my favorite Jimi Hendrix song…written by Bob Dylan.”
 
Through it all, Free has also embraced his heritage. As a musical activist, he has created the Native Music Rocks program, which gives Native American musicians performance opportunities. He also founded the first Native American record company (Native Music Rocks Records) and is an advocate for the Seminole Tribe of Florida. In addition to his guitar prowess, Free has mastered the Native American flute and has recorded five albums on that instrument, including 2016’s The Native American Flute as Therapy. Next to his Grammy, his accolades thus far include five Native American Music Awards, including Male Artist and Pop Rock Artist.

‘Rita De Rover’ is een eerste voorsmaak van wat er in 2022 op Borokov Borokov's vierde plaat ‘De Verkeerde Fout’ zal verschijnen. Op deze single nam niemand minder dan De Witte Kunst (Topnotch) de zang voor hun rekening. Aangevuurd door DAF-achtige broodtrommelsamples, zwevend op een klanktapijt naar Bill Nelsons vogeldesign bevlekt met zoete Hosono-pop-saus predikt Borokov Borokovs meest favoriete Nederlandse band de denkbeelden van grootindustrieel-broodfabrikant Sven de Stroper (1878-1955). Net zoals zijn illustere generatiegenoot Henry Ford was Sven ervan overtuigd dat zijn arbeiders (man, vrouw, kind) het product moesten kunnen kopen dat ze vervaardigden. “Knecht geen nood, al ben je steendood – er is nog altijd brood” was zijn motto. Een adagium dat vandaag nog niets van zijn luister heeft verloren. Rita De Rover: de eerste bekrachtiging van Borokov Borokovs' voornemen om in 2022 resoluut de kant van het grootkapitaal te kiezen en het commercieel succes vastberaden te omarmen.

Jan Leyers en Paul Michiels schreven samen een uniek stuk vaderlandse muziekgeschiedenis. Het begon allemaal in 1986, toen ze besloten hun krachten te bundelen en voortaan als The Soul Sisters door het leven te gaan. Wat volgde was een indrukwekkende reeks onvergetelijke songs: hun magische debuut ‘You Get To Me’, mijlpalen als ‘Like a Mountain’ en de wereldhit ‘The Way To Your Heart’, later de inmiddels klassieke albums ‘Heat’, ‘Simple Rule’ en ‘Swinging Like Big Dogs’, met de hits ‘Through Before We Started’, ‘Changes’, ‘Broken’, ‘Tell Me What It Takes’ en zovele andere.

The Soul Sisters werd Soulsister, maar de chemie bleef al die jaren intact, met Jan als hart en brein van de groep en Paul als lichaam en ziel. Soul, pop, slimme rock: het duo kon het allemaal aan en zette tot ver buiten de landsgrenzen concertzalen in vuur en vlam.
Na een lange windstille periode bracht Soulsister drie weken geleden een nieuwe single uit: ‘Something I Need To Know’, een zwoele en aanstekelijke track die meteen hoog op de playlist van iedere Vlaamse radiozender belandde.

Eén ding bleef al die tijd onveranderd: het hart van Soulsister slaat het snelst op een podium. Eind deze maand beginnen Jan en Paul daarom aan een lange theatertour, geflankeerd door Hervé Martens op keyboards en Patrick Dorcean op drums. Meer dan dertig concerten zullen ze samen spelen, gewapend met klassieke en nieuwe hits, en na de lange lockdown hongeriger dan ooit.

VESTROCK DOWNTOWN is een nieuw najaarsfestival met een heerlijke line-up en zonder anderhalve meter restricties. VESTROCK DOWNTOWN heeft de intieme sfeer van VESTROCK, opgezet als een echt festival met twee stages: een megatent voor de Main Stage, en De Schuur, een groter broertje van De Kapel, met een balkon. We kijken ernaar uit om met jullie de vriendschap te vieren en op het leven te proosten. We volgen de actueel geldende coronaregels van de Nederlandse overheid. Voor toegang tot het festivalterrein is dus een coronatoegangsbewijs noodzakelijk. Contrary to the title, District 97 lead-singer and ex-American Idol finalist, Leslie Hunt continues her upward trajectory with “Descend”, her brand new solo seven-track EP.
 
“Descend” marks Part Two of a 2-EP set, and is the follow-up to “Ascend”, which was released in June.
 
Featuring another set of seven adeptly crafted songs, each one a testament to Leslie Hunt’s progressively assured songwriting ability.
 
Where the seven tracks on “Ascend” dealt with matters relating to the heart and soul, the songs on “Descend” deal predominantly with freedom of the individual and their attempt to find a place within an increasingly complex and sometimes harsh society.
 
Leslie Hunt’s eclectic range of influences move naturally among the seven songs on “Descend” traversing an array of genres.

In het voorjaar van 2022 brengt Stef Kamil Carlens zijn soloshow 'One Man Band' naar verschillende Belgische podia.

Met zijn eerste soloplaat 'Stuck In The Status Quo’ maakte Stef Kamil Carlens in 2017 zijn succesvolle rentree in het popcircuit als soloartiest. Sindsdien gaat het bijzonder goed met de Antwerpse liedjeskunstenaar. In 2019 kwam de opvolger 'Making Sense Of Infinity’ uit, die door pers en publiek positief onthaald werd. In 2020 kwam de kers op de taart: de bekroning met een Music Industry Award in de categorie 'Beste muzikant’.
 
In zijn soloshows omringt Stef Kamil zich met een keur aan opmerkelijke instrumenten. Aan zijn voeten een houten basharmonium en percussie van schelpen en belletjes, rechts van hem een torentje vintage synths, orgeltjes en drummachines en rondomrond een reeks bijzondere gitaren, waarop hij met regelmaat z’n bottleneck laat sliden. 
 
Het geheel vormt een kleurrijke biotoop waarin de rijke verbeeldingswereld van de songs uit zijn ondertussen impressionante repertoire kan gedijen en hij sferen doet ontstaan die reiken van bluesy melancholie tot funky vrolijkheid. Omdat hij soms tot met zeven instrumenten tegelijkertijd in de weer is, lijkt zijn spel wel een soort choreografie, waarin minutieus getimede bewegingen een krachtige maar verfijnde eenheid van groove en melodie vormen. Stef Kamil staat alleen op het podium, maar bijwijlen lijkt het of er een volledige band staat te spelen!​

​Bassist Deon Estus died Monday at 65.
While he was best known for his work with Wham! and George Michael, Estus also played with Marvin Gaye, Tina Turner, Frank Zappa, George Clinton, Annie Lennox Edgar Winter and Elton John during his long career.
The news of his death was confirmed on Estus' Twitter page, though no official cause of death has been reported. "It is with real sadness I post that Deon Estus passed away this morning," the tweet read. "Deon was mostly known as the third member of Wham! Deon was passionate about music and loved interacting with his loyal fans."
Estus' partner, Brenda Kaye Pearce, also acknowledged the loss. "My dearest, closest partner and significant other of four years transitioned, and all I can remember is our last conversation the day before," she wrote on Facebook "My heart will need time to heal. RIP Deon. Love you forever."
Born Jeffery Deon Estus in Detroit in 1956, he began learning bass at an early age, taking lessons from James Jamerson of Motown's legendary Funk Brothers. After spending a few years playing and recording with local bands, Estus moved overseas and settled in London, where he was spotted by Michael. He joined Wham! on tour and later backed Michael in his successful solo career.
In 1989, Estus released a solo album, Spell, which included several tracks produced by Michael. The LP spawned a hit single, "Heaven Help Me," which featured cowriter Michael on backing vocals.
When Michael died in 2016, Estus was among the many musicians to pay tribute. “I’m still in shock," he told Billboard at the time. "It hasn’t quite hit me yet, but it helps to talk about it and to think about all those fantastic tours, all those records, all the people he’s helped and all the things he’s done, which is a lot. I was blessed to have known him.”
Estus noted in a  2011 interview that he found the joys of sharing music with others around the globe during his many tours. "The more you can stay on the road, the better," he said. "You get a chance to see the world. You get a chance to meet people. It’s great, and you’re making people happy. That’s the best thing."

​Beverly Noga, a music publicist who helped guide the careers of such artists as Sonny & Cher, Cream, the Bee Gees and The Chambers Brothers, died Friday of cancer at her home in Los Angeles, a family spokesperson said. She was 87.
Noga and Bobbi Cowan, niece of legendary publicist Warren Cowan, founded Contemporary Public Relations in 1964. Their clients also included The Turtles, Three Dog Night, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Eric Burdon and the Animals, Joe Cocker and Blind Faith.
When the office closed, Noga and Willie Chambers of The Chambers Brothers formed Hebewillen Enterprises and Hebewillen Publishing, running both until her death.
Noga’s parents, John and Helen Noga, owned the Blackhawk and Downbeat nightclubs in San Francisco that hosted such acts as Dave Brubeck, Louie Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington.
Noga’s mother discovered and managed Johnny Mathis, and as the singer’s career took off, he and her family moved into a home on Sunset Boulevard and Elm Drive in Beverly Hills.
Noga became an integral part of her mom’s management team in its California and New York offices, and their Beverly Hills home became a place to host celebrities from the worlds of music and film.
Survivors include her daughter, prolific voiceover actress Sherry Lynn; son-in-law Robert Briscoe Evans, an actor; granddaughter Jessica Evans, an actress, and her partner, Freddy Delgadillo; granddaughter Katie Cooper and her husband, Kyle Cooper; and great-granddaughter Rilo Anne Cooper.

​Six-time Grammy nominee Maria Muldaur, who’s been dubbed “The First Lady of Roots Music” for previous albums touching on her wide-ranging influences from blues, country, folk, jazz and jug band music, releases her new positive-themed single, ‘I’m Vaccinated & I’m Ready for Love!,” on Stony Plain Records to radio and all digital platforms today, October 8th.
 
“As I drove away from receiving my second vaccination shot, I was immediately overwhelmed with an immense feeling of Liberation, Exhilaration, Lightness and Joy,” Maria recalls as the inspiration for her new song. “It was a beautiful Spring day, so I rolled back my sunroof to enjoy the ride, and before I knew it I spontaneously started singing 🎶’Vaccinated and I'm ready for love🎶’ at the top of my lungs all the way home! I sort of chuckled to myself and forgot about it, but the next day the refrain returned and I found myself singing it throughout the day! I realized this was a pretty catchy refrain that wouldn't go away, so I called my guitar player Craig Caffal and told him, ‘I've got the title and I've got the hook - help me write the song!’ “He did and we recorded it, and made a video to go with it. It is my hope that it will be a useful message in convincing vaccination reluctant folks of yet another good reason to get vaccinated. If all the other good and common sense reasons of protecting loved ones, children, the elderly, etc., didn't do it, perhaps the thought of being liberated to safely resume/pursue a happy active love life will be the motivation that does the trick!”
 
Maria Muldaur’s current album, Let’s Get Happy Together, was released in May and is an excursion into the vintage jazz and blues sounds of the 1920s/’30s, which features her collaborating with acclaimed New Orleans street band Tuba Skinny.

​Ergens halfweg de jaren 90 raakte Jaune Toujours-frontman Piet Maris in zigeunermiddens verzeild, waarna hij op- en afreisde naar Roma in Slovakije, Dat veldwerk vormde de grondslag van Mec Yek: met de muzikanten van Jaune Toujours werd het repertoire daarna stevig aangepakt, wars van om het even welke traditie. Bij de bisnummers aan het eind van een winters café-optreden in Gent sprongen twee jonge Romani zangeressen – Katia en Milka Pohlodkova - mee het podium op, om daarna nooit meer weg te gaan. De zigeunerspin-off van Jaune Toujours heet Mec Yek!

Net zoals het muzikale parcours van Mec Yek zit ook hun muziek vol verrassingen. Na SuperDiverCity van een aantal jaar geleden komen ze nu met een nieuw album ‘Taisa’, wat ‘morgen’ betekent. Het ‘mañana’ van de Roma, zeg maar.


En het Covid-jaar 2020 zal bepalend blijken voor de sound van het nieuwe repertoire. Mec Yek ging voor een lichte, makkelijk verhuisbare set-up met percussie, zodat er Corona-veilig kon worden gerepeteerd op de meest uiteenlopende plaatsen: kort op de bal, in openlucht of in grote binnenruimtes, met de nodige afstand. Het merendeel van de opnames gebeurden trouwens ook op die manier, in de concertzaal van de VK in Molenbeek. Voor het repertoire zelf gingen Katia en Milka terug naar hun jeugd in Kosice in Slovakije, naar een demo met liedjes die ze samen met hun broers maakten. Maar er zijn ook eigengereide arrangementen van traditonele Roma-liederen. Er wordt gezongen in het Romanes, maar af en toe ook in het Russisch en zelfs een klein beetje in het Nederlands. Met een breed muzikaal palet, van tarantella over ska tot eilandenblues. Maar tegen alle verwachtingen in: Mec Yek is een zigeunergroep zonder viool.

​Keyboardist, Composer, Producer MADOCA is a world-class keyboardist and composer. Her style is a fusion of Contemporary/ Classic Jazz, Soul, Funk, Salsa, Jazz Fusion providing musical sustenance for your mind and soul.
 
Prior to moving to the U.S., she has performed sideman work for several Asian pop stars. "Music is my Life" Madoca says, and she expresses her music with passion, expression. In 1998, Kawahara worked with The Prince Project, they've traveled the world as a working unit.
In 2003, Madoca finally made the move to the U.S., where she settled in Atlanta, GA. She formed band called Madoca & Co. She performed with Joe Sample (RIP), Herbie Hancock, and the Ramsey Lewis Tribute Concerts. She has also opened for Chris Botti, Rick Braun, Jonathan Butler, Richard Elliott, India Arie, Jean Carne and Pamela Williams, to name a select few.
 
Her musical influences include the aforementioned Hancock, Lewis and Sample, as well as Chick Corea, Jeff Lorber Fusion, Jimmy Smith, George Duke (RIP) and Eddie Palmieri, yet, her style is uniquely her own. She has also worked with Eric Marienthal, Paul Young, All 4 One and many more.
 
Her first single “Surrender,” caught fire across the country, it was on the Billboard Smooth Jazz “Most Added” list in March 2018 and was on the Smooth Jazz Network Top 100 Chart for April and May, 2018. Madoca's second single "On the Beach (With You)" was on the Billboard Smooth Jazz “Most Added” list in August 2018 and was on the Smooth Jazz Network Top 100 Chart from August 2018 ~ December 2018. Madoca's third single “Illusions of Love,” – the title song from her album was on the Billboard Smooth Jazz and Groove Jazz Music “Most Added” charts on June 17, 2019 and it has been on the Smooth Jazz Network Top 100 Chart.
