Prince's life will be celebrated at his Paisley Park home and recording studio complex in Minnesota on the first anniversary of his death in April (17).
Family and friends are planning a four-day festival at the compound.
Celebration 2017, which will begin on 20 April (17), will feature performances from Prince's bands The Revolution and 3rdEyeGirl, and longtime pal and Purple Rain co-star Morris Day.
More acts will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan headlined the first official Prince tribute concert following the singer's death at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, last month (Oct16).
Chaka was one of the first acts to take to the stage, and delighted the audience as she brought Stevie out to duet with her on I Feel For You - the Prince song that was a hit for Chaka back in 1984.
The couple also performed one of Prince's most beloved songs, 1999.
Tori Kelly, Doug E. Fresh and Jessie J were among the other musical stars at the concert, which opened with a taped message from President Barack Obama.
Several of Prince's family and friends were present for the musical celebration, including his younger sister Tyka Nelson, ex-wife Mayte Garcia and close pals Morris Day & The Time, Judith Hill and Liv Warfield.
Meanwhile, Prince's former backing band The Revolution reunited for the first time in five years for an emotional show at the Minnesota club featured in Purple Rain in September (16).
Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman, Matt Fink and their bandmates took the stage at First Avenue in Minneapolis to pay tribute to their late leader. Wendy led the group as it belted out a string of Prince hits, including Let's Go Crazy, When Doves Cry, Raspberry Beret, and 1999.
Prince died from an accidental overdose of the painkiller fentanyl in an elevator at his Paisley Park estate in the Minneapolis suburb of Chanhassen in April (16). He was 57.

The divorced singer has gone all natural with her new style and musical sound
She burst on to the music scene in 2002 with her rockabilly dress sense and musical style, but now she's back with a completely different direction.
Imelda May has rocked the music world with her new look as she makes her comeback with a fresh groove and without her trademark blonde streak.
May has poured her heart and soul into the new record, Life Love Flesh Blood, and feels like she's getting a fresh start after going through a divorce with her former guitarist and ex husband Darrel Higham.
She married Darrel, in 2002 but they split last year after having a child together in 2012, but the stress and heartache of the end of her marriage has been covered in her new single, Call Me.
In the past Imelda would sometimes "hide things in my songs and twist them around," but this time the singer tells it exactly how it is. 

"It's therapy, like keeping a diary that a lot of people read" Imelda explains. "Some of my favourite songs don’t say much, but they reveal everything."
Accompanied by a stylish and extremely moving black and white video, ‘Call Me’ tells the tale all too familiar to anyone who has ever been in love.
Imelda’s striking and tender vocal is breathtaking as it draws the listener in closely to a song of quiet desperation.

Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit," David Bowie's "Changes," R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion," Elvis Presley's "Jailhouse Rock" and Prince's Sign 'O' the Times are among the 25 recordings that will be inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame as part of their Class of 2017.
N.W.A's Straight Outta Compton, the Beach Boys' "I Get Around," Jackson 5's "ABC" and Sly & The Family Stone's "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" are among the diverse group of inductees, which also includes TV themes (Lalo Schifrin's "Mission Impossible), country (Merle Haggard's Okie From Muskogee, Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make Your Love Me") and early Sixties pop (Lesley Gore's "You Don't Own Me," Dion's "The Wanderer").
According to Billboard, the criteria for Grammy Hall of Fame eligibility is that the recording must be at least 25 years old; both "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Losing My Religion" celebrated their 25th anniversary this year. The 25 new additions would bring the Hall of Fame's number of inductees to 1,038.
"The Grammy Hall Of Fame represents all genres of music, acknowledging the diversity of musical expression for which The Academy has become renowned," The Recording Academy president and CEO Neil Portnow said in a statement. "Memorable and inspiring, these recordings are proudly added to our growing catalog and are an integral part of our musical, social and cultural history.

Anouk heeft haar hele kroost voor de camera gebracht voor haar nieuwste videoclip die vandaag is gelanceerd. Opmerkelijk, want begin dit jaar verwijderde ze nog alle foto's van haar kinderen op Instagram.De Nederlandse zangeres bracht vanochtend de videoclip van het nummer "I just met a man" uit, een nummer dat te horen is op haar album "Fake it till we die".
In die clip is zowel haar vriend, Dominique Schemmekes, als haar kinderen te zien. Het gaat dan om Benjahmin Kingsley, Elijah Jeremiah, Phoenix Ray, Jesiah Dox, Sion Jethro en de dit jaar geboren Jelizah Rose.
De actie is opmerkelijk, aangezien Anouk begin dit jaar nog alle foto's van haar kinderen verwijderde van haar Instagram-account. Ze had schrik dat ze het slachtoffer zouden worden van racisme. "Ik wil mijn kinderen beschermen", zei ze toen.

 De Amerikaanse soulzanger Colonel Abrams, die in 1985 wereldberoemd werd met de megahit Trapped en later disconummers als How Soon We Forget en I'm Not Gonna Let You, is op 67-jarige leeftijd overleden. Abrams zou al langer hebben geworsteld met zijn gezondheid. Hij was al jaren dakloos en had diabetes.
Vorig jaar begonnen fans van de aan lager wal geraakte ster een crowdfundingsactie om hem weer een beter bestaan te kunnen geven. Hij had onvoldoende geld om de noodzakelijke insuline te kopen en was er langere tijd slecht aan toe.

Amerikaanse media stellen vandaag dat die hulp er niet voor kunnen zorgen heeft dat Abrams zijn leven weer op de rails kreeg. De doodsoorzaak is nog niet duidelijk en wordt momenteel onderzocht. Volgens de jongste berichten zou het om een natuurlijke dood gaan.

Dit wordt aangevuld met materiaal uit ‘Meloria’ en eerdere albums.
 
Het laatste full album ‘Meloria’ kwam uit in augustus 2015 en deed het internationaal erg goed in de noteringen met een achtste plaats in de Billboard Chart en een drieentwintigste plaats in Engeland.

Pre-YES music legends Mabel Greer's Toyshop has found a novel way of releasing new musical works. The band will release one track per month for eight months starting today. The songs will be initially available as downloads and buying all eight songs will qualify for a free CD and booklet at the end.
 
Since founding members Clive Bayley and Bob Hagger reunited, the band have written and produced this second album inside 2 years. The first offering “New Way Of Life” was co-produced by the bass player of YES, Billy Sherwood, who also featured on the album playing bass and keyboards. Tony Kaye, original organist for Mabel Greer and for YES, also played on “New Way Of Life”.
 
“No need to wait another year for fresh new Mabel Greer sounds, we would like our audience to slowly savor the songs one at a time, rather than trying to digest the whole album in one sitting”, said composer, singer and guitarist, Clive Bayley. “This new offering called 'The Secret' is comprised of all exciting new material, the prior album included songs written in the sixties”, added Bob Hagger.
 
Hugo Barré, on bass guitar, accompanies Bayley and Hagger along with a new addition to the band, Max Hunt on multiple keyboards who also co-produced this new album. What is The Secret? - Well apparently we will have to wait until the all tracks are released before finding out – an intriguing story…

Karney is a San Francisco-based singer/songwriter that has been making great music for many years, performing across the US and collaborating with many talented and notable artists. Keeping her mind on social justice and positive messages, her lyrical content offers a sardonic and sometimes straight forward approach to many of the issues facing people today, with a message of hope resonating throughout every song she writes. Karney is digitally releasing a handful of new songs between August and the end of 2016 in support of her upcoming full-length album Renditions, due out in early 2017.
 
While Karney’s eclectic songwriting is based in solid musicianship, her new material echoes a diverse set of musical influences. She will release a series of digital EP’s, featuring a few different renditions of her new songs on each, through her own independent record label, Karney Music & Sound. The second in the series, Singles Vol. 2: Restless Wind w/ Same Song, was released on November 18th, 2016. This digital EP will include 2 versions of the track “Restless Wind” ranging from a solo acoustic to a full rock band version with drums, bass, electric guitars, overdubs and top notch production. The release will also include solo acoustic to a full rock band version of “Same Song.”
 
Some songs in the upcoming series will feature additional remixes rendered by some of Karney’s producer colleagues and friends, exploring Karney’s music in an assortment of other styles. These releases will culminate in a full album of recordings titled Renditions, which has a tentative release of March 2017.

She is also now adding youth choral director to her list of musical endeavors, having recently received the esteemed “Dreamcatcher” award from the Visual and Performing Arts division of the San Francisco Unified School District for her work as a choral teacher and conductor for middle and high school students, as well as her contribution to the furthering of music education in the San Francisco public school system.
 
Karney has created music in the ballet and contemporary dance world for many choreographers and dancers such as Edward Valela, Anna Sokolo, San Francisco Ballet School, Margaret Jenkins Dance Company, Oberlin Dance Collective, Richard Gibson and The Academy of Ballet, June Watanabe, Joe Goode, Lucas Hoving, Ed Mock, Janice Garret, Melissa Fenley and many, many more. She also composed her Opus 1 Chaconne Sur Sept for nationally renowned contemporary music group, Earplay Ensemble. In addition, Karney was composer in residence at Mills College graduate dance department, San Francisco State’s graduate dance department.

​Joining a star-studded group, Diana Ross — who grew up in public housing in Detroit and went on to become a star of stage and screen and the voice of Motown — received the nation’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, at the White House today.
President Barack Obama, introducing Ross before the award was given, credited her with making music history with the Supremes and throughout her career, saying she “exuded glamour and grace” and earned “a permanent place in the American soundtrack."
“Diana Ross’ influence is as inescapable as ever,” Obama said as Ross joined a group of luminaries receiving the award that included basketball stars Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Michael Jordan, actors Robert DeNiro, Tom Hanks, Robert Redford and Cicely Tyson, comedian Ellen DeGeneres and rock star Bruce Springsteen.
In Ross’ citation for the award, she was referred to as “a daughter of Detroit” who “helped create the sound of Motown with her iconic voice.” Ross grew up in Detroit’s Brewster-Douglass Projects and went to Cass Tech before striking gold with the Supremes with such hits as “You Can’t Hurry Love” and “Stop! In the Name of Love.” She has won numerous Grammys and is a member, with the other members of the Supremes, in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

​Marc Cerrone is one of the world's most influential disco producers. Selling over thirty million records across the globe, with four million in his native France, he is one of the most successful musicians of all time, especially during his heyday of Supernature and throughout the seventies and eighties. His career has spanned four decades and he has produced, performed and organised events, making him a legend in his field. In recent years he's been in the background and never stepped back into his limelight, but his comeback has begun and Kiss it Better is here.

His return is in full swing and he's brought the power of disco with him. Kiss it Better is his new single, featuring British DJ and singer Yasmin. The song appears on the Red Lips LP and is set to make the legend come back to life. An early review have called it “luxuriant” and says it “sounds like it could have been recorded in mid '70s.” The Red Lips album is Cerrone's first in eight years and features numerous talents assisting him, including the aforementioned Yasmin, as well as James Hart, Aloe Blacc, Alexis Taylor and Sam Gray. Recorded over three years, it's set to show that Cerrone, even in his sixties, has something to teach pop music and help return disco to the forefront.

Disco was the most popular genre of music throughout the mid seventies to the early eighties. It was enjoyed by a diverse group of people and was huge in the nightclub scene. It acted as a counterpoint to the dominating popularity of rock and brought back something you could dance to. Bright lights, flared pants, disco balls, white suits and more all enter the public conscience of disco and despite it's overwhelming popularity and how ingrained it is in pop culture, it was soon gone. Backlash from rock fans and lowering sales soon meant it died a death.

Disco, while no longer a mainstream genre, has remained in a small form. In the twenty-first century artists such as Kylie Minogue, Daft Punk, Bruno Mars, Arcade Fire, Mark Ronson, Justin Timberlake and The Ting Tings have recorded disco track along with their usual repertoires. With artists willing to produce such tracks and the return of Cerrone, we could see a disco revival. You can see it in various ways already, such as it's use in the film The Martian, the Disco Dollars casino games from Ladylucks and the rise of Nu-Disco.

Cerrone is back and he might have brought disco with him, and you can discover this yourself when you listen to Kiss it Better on Red Lips.

De jonge Brusselse zangeres Ellie Delvaux, die nu als Blanche op het podium staat, zal de Belgische kleuren verdedigen op het Eurovisiesongfestival in Oekraïne in 2017.
Dit jaar mocht de Franstalige zender RTBF de artiest kiezen die ons land zal vertegenwoordigen op het Eurovisiesongfestival. In mei 2017 zal Blanche in Kiev op het podium voor België staan. Amper 16 jaar, maar ze maakte met haar beklijvende stem veel indruk op het publiek en haar coaches tijdens het vijfde seizoen van de talentenjacht 'The Voice Belgique'. Vooral met haar versie van Adele's 'Daydreamer' gooide ze hoge ogen.

Auteur-componist Pierre Dumoulin heeft samen met Blanche het Eurosongnummer geschreven. Hij contacteerde haar nadat hij was ontroerd door de frêle en melancholische kracht van haar stem.

"Ik zie er alleen positieve kanten aan", zegt Blanche. "Het wordt een avontuur voor mij, een unieke en leerrijke ervaring." 

In 2016 stuurde de Nederlandstalige publieke omroep VRT Laura Tesoro naar het liedjescircus. Ze eindigde op de tiende plaats. 

De drummer van de Britse band Inspiral Carpets is op 44-jarige leeftijd overleden. Craig Hill speelde sinds zijn 14de bij de band die deel zou gaan uitmaken van de zogenaamde 'Madchester' scène met bands als Happy Mondays, Stone Roses en Charlatans.
Op de Facebookpagina van de band stellen de andere leden dat ze verslagen zijn door het verlies van hun "broer". Inspiral Carpets had hits met 'Saturn 5', 'This Is How It Feels' en 'Dragging Me Down'.     

Graspop Meatl Meeting kondigt aan Rammstein als headliner op de affiche tehbben voor vrijdag 16 juni 2017. Hiermee staat Rammstein voor het eerst ooit op de affiche van Graspop Metal Meeting: Extreem trots zijn ze bij GMM dat ze deze legendarische Duitse formatie als eerste headliner mogen aankondigen. het zal het enigste  optreden van Rammstein in de Benelux zijn het komende jaar! Ze stonden al zéér lang op de verlanglijst van GMM en eindelijk is het dan zover. Al 22 jaar beukt deze bende provocerende Duitsers de ene monsterhit na de andere in elkaar. Met de nummers ‘Rammstein’ en ‘Heirate mich’ op de soundtrack van de film Lost Highway van David Lynch brak Rammstein in 1997 internationaal door. Vandaag domineren ze wereldwijd nog steeds de metal- en rockscene, met knallers als ‘Sonne’, ‘Ich Will’, en ‘Feuer Frei’ op hun palmares. Wanneer Till Lindemann, Richard Kruspe, Paul Landers, Oliver Riedel, Christian Lorenz en Christoph Schneider het podium bestijgen, gaan alle registers open: theatrale kostuums, explosief vlammenwerk, schunnige lyrics en loeiharde gitaren smelten samen tot een uniek spektakel. Shockerende circusact, intimiderende volksmennerij of hilarische parodie: een concert van Rammstein heeft vele gezichten. Eén ding is zeker: ze kunnen in Dessel amper wachten tot 16 juni om deze meesters van de Tanzmetall te verwelkomen.

Pierce The Veil stelt in premiere de nieuwe video ‘Dive In’ voor op hun website http://piercetheveil.net als dank aan de fans voor het fantastische voorbije jaar. De video bevat een live montage van de band hun recentste Amerikaanse toer en toont de band hun energieke live prestaties aangevuld met niet eerder vertoont backstage beelden. Naast de video prijkt ook een handgeschreven nota van frontman Vic Fuentas waarmee hij de fans persoonlijk wil bedaken voor het afgelopen jaar.
 
‘Dive In’ is afkomstig uit het eerder verschenen album ‘Misadventures’ hetwelke op een vierde plaats eindigde in de Billboard top 200 charts. Momenteel is de band nog aan de laatste optredens bezig van hun Europese headline show die eindigd op 6 december met hun grootste show in de London Brixton Academy. Hierna keert Pierce The Veil terug naar Amerika om het jaar af te sluiten.

Het Londonse progressieve metal gezelschap Haken kondigt voor hun tien jarig bestaan een europese tour aan voor 2017.Deze volgt op de release van het reeds verschenen Affinity waarvan je elders op de site de review kan lezen. De band komt dit album op Europese bodem promoten gedurende maart en april komend jaar. Tickets hiervoor zullen op woensdag 23 november in voorverkoop gaan. Naast dat zal Haken ook op het podium staan bij Cruise To The Edge op 7 Februari 2017 en zullen ze ‘Vissions in zijn geheel brengen op Prog Power USA op 6 September 2017.
 
Via InsideOut Music zullen ook de albums ‘Aquarius’ en ‘Vissions’ opnieuw uitgebracht worden als dubbel CD editie in een remastered versie, alsook in vinyl editie. Deze liggen in de winkelrekken op 3 februari 2017. De albums warden onder remaster genomen door Jens Bogren (Devin Townsend Project, Between the Buried & Me)
 
Haken is verheugt om weerom op Europese bodem te kunnen spleen en is blij de fans wee rte kunnen ontmoeten. Ze kijken er naar uit om weer in enkele van hun favoriete steden te spelen en ook nieuwe plaatsen aan te doen zoals Oostenrijk,Tsjechië, Hongarije en Luxemburg. Haken zal tijdens deze tour materiaal brengen uit alle albums met speciale focus op eerste twee albums ‘Aquarius’ en ‘Vissions’ dewelke dan net heruitgebracht zijn. Over de heruitgave van deze albums wist Haken nog te melden dat in deze hermixing alle nuances van de muzikale arrangementen nog beter tot hun recht komen en ze er naar uitkijken om deze nummers opnieuw live te brengen.

De grootmeester van de progressieve rock-opera, Arjen Anthony Lucassen, kondigt aan wat niemand nog durfde verwachten. Hij zal met Ayreon twee live concerten verzorgen in de 013 te Tilburg op op 15 en 16 september 2016.Arjen had al die jaren gezegd dat het nooit zou gebeuren maar onder grote druk van de vele fans geeft hij nu toch aan de vraag toe en hebben de fans hem kunnen overtuigen om toch twee live shows te doen.
 
Dit zal gebeuren onder de naam: Ayreon Universe. Die avond zullen er zestien vocalisten van internationale allure op het podium staan samen met een indrukwekkende live band.
Er zullen die avond nummers gebracht worden uit alle Ayreon albums aangevuld met enkele nummers uit de Star One albums. Arjen zelf kondigde ook aan zelf zijn gitaar mee te brengen en enkele nummers met de speciaal opgerichte band mee te spelen.

Kanye West blijft ophef veroorzaken. Enkele dagen nadat hij zijn fans tijdens een concert verteld had dat hij voor Donald Trump zou hebben gestemd, stak hij tijdens een ander concert een nieuwe (politieke) tirade af. Daarin moesten onder meer Beyoncé, Hillary Clinton en de media het ontgelden. Nadat hij zijn hart gelucht had, legde West het concert stil. Gisteren dan liet zijn management weten dat ook het concert dat gisterenavond in LA had moeten plaatsvinden, niet zou doorgaan.

West gaf eerder van de week toe dat als hij zou gestemd hebben, hij zijn stem aan Trump zou hebben gegeven. Zijn fans reageerden met boegeroep.

Zaterdag bleek dat West nog veel meer op zijn lever heeft. Hij kondigde aan dat hij nog wat wou doorbomen over Trump en begon daarop aan een minutenlange tirade. West zei dat hij gekwetst was omdat hij gehoord had dat Beyoncé niet wou optreden op de MTV Music Awards tenzij zij en niet hij de prijs van video van het jaar zou winnen. Hij riep Beyoncé's man, Jay Z om hem op te bellen en met hem te praten "als een man".

"Gevoelens zijn belangrijk, bro"
Hij spuwde ook zijn gal over de radiostations die volgens hem altijd maar dezelfde muziek draaien en haalde ten slotte ook uit naar Hillary Clinton. "Het is een nieuwe wereld, Hillary Clinton, het is een nieuwe wereld. Gevoelens zijn belangrijk. Want weet je wat? Iedereen in middle America had bepaalde gevoelens en ze hebben jou getoond hoe ze zich voelen. Gevoelens zijn belangrijk, bro."
"Ik ben hier om dingen te veranderen. En de dingen zullen niet veranderen tenzij mensen hun eigen leugens erkennen. Ik heb de inzichten, bro. Ik ben ermee gezegend. Ik ga de dingen niet altijd juist verwoorden, maar ik ga wel zeggen hoe ik me voel." Daarna liet hij zijn micro vallen en verdween van het podium.

Nood aan rust
Het publiek kon de ongevraagde politieke preek en het stilleggen van de show niet smaken. In de zaal klonk minutenlang boegeroep en op Twitter regende het commentaren. Een boze fan liet weten dat hij iedereen een goeie avond wenste "behalve Kanye West". Veel fans lieten ook weten dat ze hun geld terug willen.
West brak vorige maand ook al plots een concert af nadat zijn vrouw Kim Kardashian was overvallen in Parijs. Volgens de showbizzsite TMZ heeft West nood aan rust om zijn persoonlijke problemen op te lossen.

De Canadese zanger Justin Bieber is in Los Angeles de grootste prijzenpakker geworden op de American Music Awards, een tegenhanger van de Grammy Awards. Ook Rihanna en Drake wonnen in verschillende categorieën. Opvallend: ook Prince viel in de prijzen met een album dat meer dan 30 jaar oud is.Justin Bieber was vijf keer genomineerd en haalde het in vier categorieën waaronder beste mannelijke artiest in de categorie pop/rock, beste song voor "Love yourself" en beste album voor "Purpose". Bieber was niet aanwezig op de uitreiking. Het tieneridool is namelijk op tournee in Europa. Via een satellietverbinding vanop een concert in Italië vertolkte hij wel "Never give up".
Rapper Drake kon voor het eerst winnen op de American Music Awards. De 30-jarige Canadees evenaarde het record van Michael Jackson met 13 nominaties, maar viel uiteindelijk maar drie keer in de prijzen. Drake won in de rap/hiphop-categorieën met zijn album "Views" en de single "Hotline bling". "Views" was eerder dit jaar het eerste album dat een miljard streams binnenhaalde op Apple Music. Daarnaast won Drake ook samen met Rihanna in de categorie Soul/R&B de award voor favoriete song.
Zangeres Rihanna won drie awards in het genre Soul/R&B: favoriete vrouwelijke artieste, favoriete album voor "Anti" en favoriete song voor "Work (ft. Drake)". Ariana Grande kreeg de trofee voor artiest van het jaar. Twee onderscheidingen waren er voor countryzangeres Carrie Underwood en het alternatieve rockduo Twenty One Pilots.

Postume award voor Prince
Opvallend, het album "Purple Rain" van Prince uit 1984 kreeg de prijs voor de beste soundtrack. De verkoop van het album schoot opnieuw de hoogte in na het plotselinge overlijden van de zanger in april van dit jaar. De award werd in ontvangst genomen door Tyka Nelson, de zus van Prince.
De Britse zanger Sting, die net een nieuw rockalbum uit heeft, kreeg een speciale award voor zijn buitengewone bijdragen aan de muziek.
De American Music Awards ontstonden in 1973 als alternatief voor de Grammy's. De nominaties zijn op platenverkoop gebaseerd, de prijzen worden toegekend via onlinestemmen.

​Smokey Robinson recently received the Library of Congress' Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, joining prior-winners Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder and Billy Joel. The Gershwin Prize recognizes work that has a “significant and uplifting influence on the world of music and on our society as a whole.” The Library of Congress honored Robinson with an all-star tribute concert at DAR Constitution Hall. Hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, the concert is scheduled to air on PBS in February.
The Washington Post reports that numerous artists performed including Jazz artist Esperanza Spalding, country artist Kip Moore, gospel legend BeBe Winans, and Corinne Bailey Rae.

De Amerikaanse soulzangeres Sharon Jones is op 60-jarige leeftijd overleden. Vrijdag verloor ze haar “moedige strijd” tegen pancreaskanker, zo deelde haar vertegenwoordiger mee op haar website.

“We zijn diep bedroefd om aan te kondigen dat Sharon Jones is overleden na een moedige strijd tegen pancreaskanker”, zo klinkt het in de verklaring van haar vertegenwoordiger. “Ze was omringd door haar geliefden, onder meer door de Dap-Kings”.

In 2013 kreeg Jones te horen dat ze pancreaskanker had. Even leek het de goede kant op te gaan maar bij de première van ‘Miss Sharon Jones!’, een documentaire over haar leven en werk, kondigde ze aan dat de kanker was teruggekeerd.
Jones kende haar doorbraak in 2002, toen ze met The Dap-Kings het album ‘Dap Dippin’ with Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings’ uitbracht. In totaal bracht de groep zeven albums uit, met als meest recente ‘It’s a Holiday Soul Party’ uit 2015.
