Born in 1992, August Kann from Ski in Norway started playing music at the age of 9 when he and some friends established a rock band. August’s interest in music continued growing, and he eventually went on to study jazz vocals at Norges Musikkhogskole. August describes his music as ‘simple’; although his poppy and folky singer-songwriter music is comfortable easy-listening, it’s very well-executed and reaches out to the listeners heart in the best possible way. His lyrics are often inspired by both his own stories and day to day conversations with others. Hopeless love, politics and the ups and downs of life, are just some of the themes he visits. Accompanied with guitar, piano, drums, fiddle and violin, it is impossible to hear this (self-written/recorded/produced) album with getting hit in the heart. August’s characteristic, hoarse vocals just puts the cherry on top, and you can hear that he sings from the soul. The music combines references from artists such as Paul Simon, Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen, Bon Iver, Jack Johnson and Thomas Dybdahl. During the recent years he has also joined other bands in addition to his solo career, like the pop band Kloversvingen, the impro band Karwowski and the soul/funk band Freddie Panda. August loves playing his music for people and is a frequent addition to many local stages around the country. In addition to using his voice, August also plays both piano and guitar. His live performances are known for being cozy, yet August looks a bit absentminded when playing gigs. However, he knows how to win over the crowd by a good dosage of humor and charm. With a soundscape that overflows of comfort and soothing sounds through thirty gorgeous minutes, August Kann has made an album perfect for both late summer nights and long rainy days.
