Our female readers should not worry about 'Good For Nothing Woman', the title of the first in the new series 'Rock and Roll Floozy' started by Atomicat. With 'Good For Nothing Woman' compiler Marcus Juárez describes a certain Nancy Jane. The complete story can be found on the inside of the digipack. But let's make it clear that the album also bears the title of the song of the same name by Doug Harden and The Dessert Suns, which can also be found on this compilation and lyrically already clarifies a few things.
The ‘Rock and Roll Floozy’ series emphasizes jivin’, strollin’ and boppin’ songs within rockabilly and rock and roll. On this first volume you already get 28 tracks that meet these characteristics. This series also links recordings of well-known names to lesser gods, but always with one requirement, namely ‘all hits, no fillers’.
It is starting to become a constant in the series released by Atomicat, because the 'Rock and Roll Floozy' series once again promises a lot of beautiful, often unjustly unknown rocking recordings from the middle of the last century. In any case, 'Good For Nothing Woman' makes us look forward to the volumes still in the pipeline. Absolutely recommended!

​As if two worlds with a difference of 400 years are dueling and make love.  Chamber music from Aliens?  Very intriguing album!

​This compilation contains contemporary versions of classic hits from the Phillysound. A mixture of smooth jazz and soul. Ideal for those who love the sound of Philadelphia. I regret that I missed the 2 previous editions! 

​Chris Bergson is an excellent guitarist who sings with a very southern accent. You can hardly believe that he is from NY City. Chris is also one of the most intense songwriters in modern blues music. Now  he has the intimate 'All I Got It' in the cd racks. His glorious guitar flowing very accurately into his deeply soulful vocals. He digs deep into blues history. Besides some fine sophisticated covers the original songs were born during the lockdown in NYC in 2020. Opening with an emotional ballad like 'All I Got Left' is like kicking in an open door for Bergson. The warm tones of his Gibson SG complement his cordial vocal intonations to a heavenly caput.

The equation “Peter Skellern = You’re A Lady” is tempting, but too partial. Shortly after hitting the charts in 1972 with this out of time-tune, Skellern left Decca to record a string of albums for Island and Mercury between 1975 and 1982. Mint Audio gathered all six long-players and quite a few bonus tracks (Skellern also wrote for film and television) in a 3CD box, augmented with a most informative booklet. This collection features not only a Skellern backed by rock luminaries such as Mick Green, Rob Townsend, Madeline Bell and admirer George Harrison (‘Hard Times’, 1975), but also the very same Skellern paying tribute to Fred Astaire! (‘Astaire’, 1979). Where’s the common thread then? 
Well, English singer, composer and pianist Peter Skellern (1947-2017) is first and foremost an idiosyncratic and hence instantly recognizable voice, shaped and built to convey emotions: singing, story-telling, at times close to whispering. He’s a raconteur and basically all he needs is that voice, a piano and  brass, or rather an entire brass band.  
Then, there’s the interpreter and song-writer Skellern, keen on perfect melodies the classic way. The bench-mark is top level: Hoagy Carmichael, Gershwin, Cole Porter, Fred Astaire.
Finally, there’s Skellern the producer, the seeker of a particular sound reminiscing of the thirties and the forties, yet entirely his own.
Everything  about Skellern is balanced, subtle, almost fragile, often melancholic or should I say hopelessly romantic? When he leaves that unique format, as on the album ‘Kissing the Cactus’, the magic evaporates quickly. No, the ‘grand cru’ Skellern is slow to mid-tempo, yet oft swinging, telling his tales of romance, tears, dreams, lovely days as well as depressing ones. He’s there among the greatest, on his very own.
A nice 24 pp. booklet tells you the whole story and has all the details. Mint Audio also released his earlier work as a box set (‘The Complete Decca Recordings’). The sound is great.
