​Muzikant Bill Carter uit Arkansas werd in 1929 geboren. Hij startte zijn muzikale carrière begin vijftiger jaren. Aanvankelijk bracht hij country en hillbilly, maar tegen het eind van de jaren vijftig maakte hij, door de opgang van de rockabilly, een overstap naar dat genre. Na zijn militaire dienst trad Carter als zanger in 1953 toe tot de Jim DeNoone’s country band. Met die band maakte Bill voor het 4-star label opnames in het western swing genre. Die opnames tref je ook aan op deze compilatie, net als trouwens de uitstekende gospel die bij voor Rural Rhythm label inblikte. En of dat nog niet voldoende is, bevat deze dubbelaar ook nog 14 tot nog toe onbekende en dus nog niet eerder uitgebrachte, van prima geluidskwaliteit voorziene, opnames. Bill vormde al spoedig zijn eigen trio. Daarmee begeleidde hij in de fifties een aantal grootheden uit de countrywereld, zoals Marvin Rainwater, Lefty Frizzell, Freddie Hart, T- Texas Tyler en Buck Owens tijdens tournees aan de Westkust. Net toen hij het contract met M-G-M tekende en voor zijn grote doorbraak, gaf Bill Carter zijn carrière een nieuw draai en produceerde hij enkel nog Christian Country Music.
In totaal krijg je maar liefst 67 opnames die Bill, tussen 1953 en 1961 maakte voor 4-Star, Republic, Tally, Ozark, Rural Rhythm, Honey B en ‘D’, inclusief ‘I Wanna Feel Good’, zijn grootste hit, alsook het rockabillynummer ‘Cool Tom Cat’. ‘I Wanna Feel Good’ zette trouwens ook voor hem de deuren open tot The Louisiana Hayride en de Grand Ole Opry.
Deze dubbelcd geeft een mooi overzicht van het talent van Bill Carter. Of het country, hillbilly, rockabilly, rock-‘n-roll of gospel was, Bill wist deze genres steeds te presenteren met een enorm inlevingsvermogen en vakmanschap. Moest je Bill Carter niet kennen, dan doe je met de aanschaf van deze dubbelaar, die een zeer volledig overzicht biedt, zonder meer een goede zaak.

​Arkansas musician Bill Carter was born in 1929. He started his musical career in the early fifties. Initially he played country and hillbilly, but in the late 1950s, with the rise of rockabilly, he switched to that genre. After military service, Carter joined Jim DeNoone's country band as a singer in 1953. With that band Bill made recordings in the western swing genre for the 4-star label. You will also find those recordings on this compilation, just like the excellent gospel made for the Rural Rhythm label. And if that's not enough, this double album also contains 14 unknown and thus unreleased recordings with excellent sound quality.
In total you get no less than 67 recordings that Bill made between 1953 and 1961 for 4-Star, Republic, Tally, Ozark, Rural Rhythm, Honey B and 'D', including 'I Wanna Feel Good', his biggest hit, as well as the rockabilly song 'Cool Tom Cat'.
This double CD gives a nice overview of Bill Carter's talent. Whether it was country, hillbilly, rockabilly, rock 'n' roll or gospel, Bill always managed to present these genres with enormous empathy and craftsmanship. If you didn't know Bill Carter, then you are doing a good thing with the purchase of this double album, which offers a very complete overview.
