​Alhoewel de Kerstperiode er eentje zou moeten zijn waar rust en ontspanning op de eerste plaats staan, kunnen het samenstellen van de feestmaaltijd of het zoeken naar de gepaste cadeautjes toch ook voor heel wat stress zorgen. Om die stress van je af te schudden presenteren samensteller Mark, designer Alf en kwaliteitsadviseur Franky samen met het ganse team van Atomicat Records je ‘Seasons Greetings’. 28 tracks die, mits je de volumeknop een flinke ruk naar rechts geeft, je al vlug zullen doen dansen en je stress wegwuiven. Het tempo zit meteen al goed met het swingende ‘Dig That Crazy Santa Claus’ van Ralph Marterie and Lola Dee, een nummer uit 1954, waarna Paul Anka een aanstekelijke en zeer eigen versie van het klassieke ‘Jingle Bells’ presenteert. Anka keert nog terug met het croonerachtige ‘Christmas In Japan’. In 1959 veranderden The Lollipops het gekende ‘Mr. Sandman’ in het meer voor de gelegenheid passende ‘Mr. Santa’. ‘Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!’ mag je dan reeds in vele versies gehoord hebben, maar deze swingende, licht jazzy versie van Ella Fitzgerald steekt toch met kop en schouders boven de andere uit. Voor schitterende gospel kan je steeds terecht bij The Staple Singers. Pops Staples en zijn kroost zijn hier van de partij met ‘The Last Month Of The Year’. Eerder gaven wij reeds aan dat velen doo-wop associëren met Kerstmis. Wel, zij zullen zeker smullen van ‘The Robin’ door The Holidays.
Leuke instrumentale songs komen er van The Guitars, Inc. en hun versie van ‘Sleigh Ride’ en het door sax gedreven ‘White Christmas’ van Bill Robbin and The Blue Jays. De keerzijde van die single krijg je later met het eveneens instrumentale ‘Rockin’ Bells’, een remake van ‘Jingle Bells’. Vrolijk twistend gaat het er eerder aan toe in Jay Matty’s ‘Merry Twist Mas’.
Een ‘all time Christmas classic’ is ‘The Bells Of St. Mary’s’, alhoewel de lyrics geen dadelijke link hebben met Kerstmis, heeft de melodie dat duidelijk wel. Een knappe versie krijg je hier van Lynn Taylor with The Peachettes. Fans van a capella zullen zeker hun gading vinden in de gospel ‘Born In Bethlehem’ van The Famous Blue Jay Singers Of Birmingham Alabama.
Verder ook nog enorm sfeervol werk van Louis Armstrong and The All Stars met ‘Christmas Night In Harlem’, knappe samenzang van The King Sisters And Family met ‘Over The River (And Through The Woods)’, The Bookends in ‘Christmas Kisses’ en van The Voices Of Walter Schumann in ‘Christmas Gift’. Aangenaam klinkt ook het countryachtige ‘Cowboy Santa Claus’ van Bill Lacey met Lil Armstrong and Her Ebony-Aires. Country is ook de basis van Homer and Jethro’s ‘Santa’s Moving On’, dat als basis Hank Williams’ ‘I’m Movin’ On’ heeft. De keerzijde van ‘Santa’s Moving On’, namelijk het van een dosis hillbilly voorziene ‘Nuttin’ For Christmas’ staat tevens op deze compilatie. Kay Martin and Her Body Guards stonden vaak op het podium in nachtclubs. Geen wonder dat ‘Come On Santa, Let’s Have A Ball’ de daar heersende sfeer oproept. Bij de vocale groep The Qualities kondigt ‘Happy New Year To You’ zich al kloppend aan, wat meteen het einde van dit album inluidt.
Met ‘Seasons Greetings’ zendt het voltallige team van Atomicat Records je 28 in diverse muziekgenres badende sfeervolle tracks voor de op komst zijnde Kerstperiode. Een aanrader zonder meer!

Although the Christmas period should be one where rest and relaxation come first, putting together the festive meal or looking for the right presents can also cause a lot of stress. To shake off that stress, composer Mark, designer Alf and quality advisor Franky, together with the entire team of Atomicat Records, present you 'Seasons Greetings'. 28 tracks that, provided you give the volume knob a good jerk to the right, will quickly make you dance and wave your stress away. The pace is immediately good with the swinging 'Dig That Crazy Santa Claus' by Ralph Marterie and Lola Dee, a song from 1954, after which Paul Anka presents a catchy and very personal version of the classic 'Jingle Bells'. Anka returns with the crooner-like 'Christmas In Japan'. In 1959, The Lollipops changed the well-known 'Mr. Sandman' into the more appropriate 'Mr. Santa'. 'Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!' may have been heard in many versions, but this swinging, slightly jazzy version by Ella Fitzgerald stands head and shoulders above the others. We previously indicated that many associate doo-wop with Christmas. Well, they will definitely enjoy 'The Robin' by The Holidays.
Nice instrumental songs come from The Guitars, Inc. and their version of 'Sleigh Ride' and the sax-driven 'White Christmas' by Bill Robbin and The Blue Jays. You get the flip side of that single later with the equally instrumental 'Rockin' Bells', a remake of 'Jingle Bells'. It is rather cheerfully twisting in Jay Matty's 'Merry Twist Mas'.
An 'all time Christmas classic' is 'The Bells Of St. Mary's', although the lyrics have no direct link with Christmas, the melody clearly does. You get a nice version here from Lynn Taylor with The Peachettes. The flip side of 'Santa's Moving On', namely the 'Nuttin' For Christmas' with a dose of hillbilly, is also on this compilation. Kay Martin and Her Body Guards often performed on stage in nightclubs, no wonder that 'Come On Santa, Let's Have A Ball' evokes the prevailing atmosphere there.
