​Zomertijd en dus hoog tijd voor een nieuwe release in de ‘Summertime Scorchers’ serie en die is er nu. Haal die zomerse outfit uit de kast, verwen jezelf met een cocktail, zodat Mark en Henrique  de ideale soundtrack voor jouw bloedhete strandparty kunnen serveren. Beide heren staan reeds te trappelen met 30, uit de periode 1957 – 1963 komende songs. Stevig rockend op de tonen van ‘School’s Out’ van Bill James, zetten we onze eerste stappen in het warme zand. Het tempo blijft hoog. Daar zorgen Chuck Tharp and The Fireballs wel voor met ‘Long Pony Tail’, inclusief een fantastische cleane gitaarsolo. Alsof het nog niet warm genoeg is, trakteert Joe Jones je nog op wat ‘California Sun’. Joe Jones was een artiest uit New Orleans en dat hoor je ook in het nummer. Misschien ken je het nummer eerder via de coverversie van The Rivieras. Vakantie, zee, zon en strand kunnen de locaties zijn voor veel zaken. Flirten is daar zeker eentje van. Ted Forbes and The Kisses zetten het muzikaal in de verf via ‘The Flirt’. Twisten kan je er zeker ook op de tonen van Jimmy Simms Thunderbirds en het toepasselijke ‘Twistin’ On The Beach’. Liever rock-‘n-roll? Geen probleem, Mark en Henrique hebben het wel heel speciale ‘Hawaiian Rock ‘n’ Roll’ van The Hulawai’ns al op de draaitafel liggen. ‘You Excite Me’ ken je ongetwijfeld van Franke Avalon. Hier krijg je een uitermate knappe coverversie van Johnny O’Keefe. Het gevolg van zo een strandparty is een hoop ‘Footprints In The Sand’. De alom gekende The Marcels maakten er in hun gekende stijl zelfs een nummer over. Met Darryl Vincent door de speakers wordt het zeker een ‘Wild Wild Party’. Bekend volk is ook aanwezig op de party. Zo is Ricky Nelson er en hij brengt ‘Good Rockin’ Tonight’ mee. Gekend is ook Carla Thomas, dochter van die andere bekende, Rufus Thomas. Zij zet een soulvol ‘Dance With Me’ neer. Over Jan Moore is minder bekend. Veel nam zij niet op, maar wel dit heerlijk rockende ‘Head Over Heels In Love’. Nappy Brown hoor je niet op deze compilatie. Wel een nummer van hem, namelijk ‘Little By Little’ in een cover van Micki Marlo, die ook duets opnam met Paul Anka. Met messcherp gitaarwerk palmen The Sportesmen je later vanaf de eerste tonen in tijdens ‘Sand Storm’
Liefhebbers van vocale groepen komen méér dan aan hun trekken. Een eerste maal met ’45 R.P.M’ van The Mark IV. Een flinke portie doo-wop staat je te wachten bij ‘From The Bottom Of My Heart’ van The Fantastic Five Keys. Schitterende samenzang bevat ook ‘Red Hot Love (Oo This Love)’. Die wordt aangeleverd door The Charms die Otis Williams backen. The Pageants zorgen dan weer op Tony Dee’s ‘Make You My Queen’ voor de vocale indrukwekkende backings. En ook ‘Rickety Rock’ van The Jewels is een mooi voorbeeld tot wat vocale groepen in staat waren.
Wanneer je The Arqyles’ ‘Vacation Days Are Over’ hoort, weet je het wel. Tijd om de zand tussen je tenen te verwijderen, want de strandparty loopt op zijn einde. Maar niet vooraleer David Hills cover van Cliff Richards ‘Living Doll’ over het strand klinkt.
Het is een feit dat Mark en Henrique het talent bezitten om een heuse strandparty muzikaal te ondersteunen. Alleen nog even dit. Je kan van dit album met net zoveel plezier genieten vanuit je luie zetel. Het zomerse gevoel krijg je er zowaar bij.

​Summer time is here and therefore high time for a new release in the 'Summertime Scorchers' series and it is here now. Get that summer outfit out of the closet, treat yourself to a cocktail, so that Mark and Henrique can serve the ideal soundtrack for your sweltering beach party. Both gentlemen are already raring to go with 30 songs from the period 1957 – 1963. Rocking hard to the tones of 'School's Out' by Bill James, we take our first steps in the warm sand. The pace remains high. Chuck Tharp and The Fireballs take care of that with 'Long Pony Tail', including a fantastic clean guitar solo. As if it isn’t warm enough already, Joe Jones treats you to some 'California Sun'. Joe Jones was an artist from New Orleans and you can hear that in the song. You may have known the song before from The Rivieras cover version. Holidays, sea, sun and beach can be the locations for many things. Flirting is definitely one of them. Ted Forbes and The Kisses highlight it musically via 'The Flirt'. You can certainly also twist to the tunes of Jimmy Simm's Thunderbirds and the appropriate 'Twistin' On The Beach'. Prefer rock and roll? No problem, Mark and Henrique already have the very special 'Hawaiian Rock 'n' Roll' by The Hulawai'ns on the turntable. You undoubtedly know 'You Excite Me' from Franke Avalon. Here you get an extremely handsome cover version of Johnny O'Keefe. The result of such a beach party is a lot of 'Footprints In The Sand'. The well-known The Marcels even made a song about it in their well-known style. With Darryl Vincent through the speakers it will certainly be a 'Wild Wild Party'. Well-known people are also present at the party. Ricky Nelson is there and he brings 'Good Rockin' Tonight'. Also known is Carla Thomas, daughter of that other legend, Rufus Thomas. She puts down a soulful 'Dance With Me'. Less is known about Jan Moore. She didn't record much, but she did record this wonderfully rocking 'Head Over Heels In Love'. You don't hear Nappy Brown on this compilation, but one of his songs, namely 'Little By Little' in a cover by Micki Marlo, who also recorded duets with Paul Anka. With razor-sharp guitar skills, The Sportesmen will take you in from the very first notes during 'Sand Storm'.
Lovers of vocal groups will get their money's worth. A first time with '45 R.P.M' from The Mark IV. A good portion of doo-wop awaits you with 'From The Bottom Of My Heart' by The Fantastic Five Keys. Brilliant harmony vocals also include ‘Red Hot Love (Oo This Love)’. It is provided by The Charms who back Otis Williams. The Pageants then provide the vocal impressive backings on Tony Dee's 'Make You My Queen'. And 'Rickety Rock' by The Jewels is also a good example of what vocal groups were capable of.
When you hear The Arqyles' 'Vacation Days Are Over', you know it. Time to get rid of the sand between your toes, because the beach party is coming to an end. But not before David Hill sings Cliff Richard's 'Living Doll' over the beach.
It is a fact that Mark and Henrique have the talent to musically support a real beach party. Just this one more. You can enjoy this album with just as much pleasure from the comfort of your couch. I’m sure you really will get that summer feeling.
