​The second album ‘Drowning In Blue’  blends hardrock and blues but forgets to surprise the listener. So If you want to learn more about Until The Sun, start with their debut Blackheart.
But if you are a blues addict, go straight for ‘Drowning in Blue’.  

​This new EP with 4 tracks contains 3 remixes of the title track ‘Space Travel’. That track can be found on the album ‘Artefact’, that I reviewed here last week. Nice for those who love spacey dance music!

Volumes 1 and 2 in this series were published in 2019, which focuses on songs from the period that 'The Green Book' was important. The mass production of the car manufacturers made it possible for many Americans to realize their dream on wheels. The people could move more easily, they went exploring and tourism was born. Without a manual or guide, it was quite an undertaking to find your way in the immense country. You may have had a car, but where were you going to drive? The help with this was 'The Green Book' by Victor Hugo Green. It became the manual for African/American road trippers. The first volume of ‘Motorvatin’ dedicated compiler Little Victor to the author of the book. Volume two was a tribute to German immigrant Nick Dreystadt who saved Cadillac from a financial crash and made it possible for the black community as well to get a car. Volume three is dedicated to Garrett Morgan. He patented several of his inventions, but the most important invention he introduced in 1923 was  'the three-position traffic sign', the predecessor of what we know as the traffic lights. From then on, it controlled the right of way at intersections and saved countless lives. You can read the entire history around this on the digipack.
The 28 tracks on this album naturally deal with various car types, traffic, car breakdown and everything related to that. Awesome rhythm & blues and blues, vocal and instrumental from the golden era.

Lauren Anderson explores a lot of related bluestunes on her new release. She forges her own way with her powerful vocals, heartbreaking lyrics and mesmerizing effectueringen. After quitting her full-time job in Chicago as a music therapist about three years ago, she decided to move to Nashville. It obviously influenced and broadened her musical spectrum. Highly recommended release..!

'Be Empathic, She's A Flirt', that's the seventh rock 'n' roll commandment. If you thought she was honest, forget it, because before you know it, she'll be rambling the opposite through your brain. Dust enough for 30 great songs, as can be heard on this album.
A relationship sometimes has sharp edges, which are not always perfectly removable. That inspired artists to catchy rhythm & blues, rock 'n' roll and rockabilly. Enjoying this album, we are already looking forward to 'Commandment Eight' which is entitled 'Do Not Commit Adultery, The Cheater'. That promises!

​Fresh and surprising bluegrass folk album with great harmonies and unexpected background sounds.  Love it!

​Volume 17 'Down Yonder We Go Ballin' in this series takes another look at remarkable recordings by artists from Louisiana and New Orleans. Hotbeds that inspired many rhythm & blues artists to beautiful songs. Old School rhythm & blues, jump blues, zydeco but also the later rock 'n' roll was recorded with great enthusiasm and craftsmanship. Also now, on this fifth album that puts the R&B rockers from Louisiana and New Orleans again in the spotlight, compiler Mark Armstrong once again managed to lay claim to 28 excellent tracks, which do justice to the diversity. As we mentioned in previous reviews, New Orleans rhythm & blues has a distinctive sound, so does this compilation.
It is becoming more and more clear that many songs recorded in this region in the middle of the last century did not get the attention they deserved. Fortunately, the 'Southern Bred' series ensures that these songs still reach the general public. For volume 18 you have to wait a little longer. It will be on the market on August 20th.

​Volume 2 in the 'Rock and Roll Floozy' series is titled 'Lazy Susan'. ‘What’s in a name?’ is a question that certainly pops up in some minds. ‘Lazy Susan’ may conjure up a certain image, but just as well all male eyes are on her as she enters the bar, shaking her blond locks. And that she will attract even more attention when the tracks of this album rumble through the speakers and she moves towards the dance floor, you can safely bet on that. The 28 songs come mainly from lesser-known and even completely unknown artists, but are invariably gems from the treasury of rock 'n' roll and rockabilly.
So there is a lot to discover and especially to enjoy. And luckily the end of this series is not yet in sight. After all, there are still 3 volumes in the pipeline. The next volume with 'Ping Pong Baby' will be released on August 20th.

​Long awaited and now it's finally here. The recent release in the 'Rocks' series focuses on none other than Sonny Burgess. For rockabilly fans, the man needs no further explanation. For readers who don't know him yet, we would like to give a small introduction. Albert Austin Burgess was born on May 28, 1929 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Like Roy Orbison, Elvis and so many others, Sonny also took his first studio steps at Sun. 'We Wanna Boogie' and 'Red Headed Woman' recorded there were just about the wildest rockabilly that Sam Phillips had in the house. Convince yourself of Sonny's phenomenal voice and guitar work and especially the energy that Sonny radiated.
Raw vocals, tons of energy, talent, craftsmanship, beautiful guitar parts and powerful rock 'n' roll and rockabilly. Qualities that Sonny undeniably had.
Plug this compilation into your playback device and take a decades-long journey with one of rockabilly's greatest, full of energy and power, Sonny Burgess. He passed away on August 18, 2017.

An electronic, ambient tribute to the science fiction novel ‘Rendezvous with Rama’ by the late Arthur C. Clarke. The music sounds dreamy and takes you on a spacey trip! Highly recommended to hard science fiction fans like me. Tomorrow I’ll review the EP ‘Space Travel’ with 4 remixes of this tribute.

​Mick Kolassa recently moved to Memphis, and in a very short space of time he lost his dearly beloved wife and some of his closest friends. It actually turned out to be the source of inspiration for the album 'Wasted Youth'. And again Mick found a collaboration with his soulmate Jeff Jensen. And the duo put together another all-star cast, The Endless Blues Band. Handsome!

A damn good second album from the Dutch psychedelic progband Between The Jars.  Vocal delights, interesting melodies and artistic compositions.  Strongly recommended!

A quiet and beautiful album by Michael Stanton, who was unknown to me. A must if you like pedal steel guitar, backed up by a big band!

​Like many of his contemporaries who went on to become big names in rock 'n' roll and rockabilly, Ed Bruce began his artist career at Sam Phillips' legendary Sun studios. Yet much of the American public identifies him with the calm-radiating personality he was in T.V. shows and movies, in which he appeared in the eighties. However, rockabilly fans, also in Europe, are more aware of his musical legacy, which is certainly not to be underestimated, given his clever merging of genres such as rockabilly, country and country soul. In 1957, the then announced Edwin Bruce debuted with Sam Phillips with the now classic 'Rock Boppin' Baby'.
 A compilation that brings together all the recordings Ed made between 1957 and 1965. Recordings for Sun, Wand and obscure one-offs for TransSonic and Apt. All singles that certainly have eternal value. Just like the trucker song 'Eight Wheel Driver', 'Baby That's Good' and 'Doll Baby', three of the 10 songs he recorded for Sun, but which were not released at the time. It remains a mystery to me why Sam Phillips left these recordings on the shelf.
'See The Big Man Cry' is therefore a wonderful tribute to the singer, who could also live up to it as an actor, Ed Bruce.

​Powerful and hard-mouthed debut from Belgian guitarband Generator.  One word: great!

​A very nice album by the talented Bobbi “Funkee Boy” Tammaro. One that will appeal to fans of different musical genres. 

​Disconnections will not be the Final Step of this Italian/Swiss band.  Jazzy compositions bring us in a wonderful good mood.
